Overview

WebSphere® Voice Server for Windows® 2000 and AIX®, V3.1:

  • Provides speech recognition and speech synthesis, TTS software for developing and deploying applications that can be used over a telephone
  • Leverages existing telephony and Web infrastructures to enable easy voice access to WebSphere e-business applications

WebSphere Voice Server for Windows 2000 and AIX, V3.1 includes:

  • Speech recognition software that can listen to words spoken over a telephone, recognize these words, and pass the recognized words as text to an application
  • TTS software that synthesizes speech from application text for playback over a telephone
  • Connection to many telephony platforms, including both WebSphere Voice Response for AIX and WebSphere Voice Response for Windows (formerly known as DirectTalk® for AIX and DirectTalk for Windows), Intel® Dialogic, and Cisco
  • Development tools, including support for applications written in VoiceXML, Java™ Beans, or C
  • Complimentary copies of the following products:

Description

WebSphere Voice Server, V3.1 is a software product which can be integrated with other software and hardware telephony products to speech-enable these products.

A customer using an application developed with WebSphere Voice Server places a telephone call from either a landline or mobile phone.

  • A telephony server answers this telephone call, which is a PC or UNIX® server with special telephony hardware that allows it to answer telephone calls.
  • The telephony server is also running WebSphere Voice Server, which listens to the user speaking and recognizes words.
  • These recognized words are then passed to the application, running on WebSphere Application Server, which performs the desired transaction and sends the resulting text back to WebSphere Voice Server.
  • WebSphere Voice Server then uses the text to synthesize speech, which the telephony server routes back to the handset where the caller can hear it.

The WebSphere Voice Server, V3.1 can be used for the following purposes:

  • Software server application built on open industry standards that enables businesses to voice-enable existing Web applications

    This can allow customers access to voice-enabled Web applications by using a telephone.

  • Voice-enable existing DTMF and pre-recorded audio IVR applications with speech recognition and TTS capabilities

VoiceXML Browser that supports a Conversational User Interface

WebSphere Voice Server SDK V3.1

Minimum Requirements

  • Intel Pentium 366 MHz processor, or equivalent
  • CD-ROM drive, if installing the SDK from a CD
  • 128 MB RAM
  • 290 MB disk space (minimum):
    • 30 MB for installing the Sun Java™ Runtime Environment (Sun JRE) 1.3.1
    • 80 MB in the Windows system directory
    • 130 MB in the installation directory for installing each language selected
    • 28 MB in the installation destination directory for caching, logging, and tracing

      Note: If you are downloading the SDK from a Web site, the installation packages (nine total) require an additional 58 MB to 171 MB of free space during download, plus 62 MB to 172 MB of free space for extracting the files that are created when executing the download packages. The range varies depending on the language packages downloaded.

      • 50 MB for the main download installation package (required)
      • Approximately 50 MB for each language file

        After you have installed the SDK product, you can remove the download packages and the extracted installation program files. You must download at least one language package along with the main installation package.

    • If you plan to install WebSphere Concatenative Text-To-Speech, the following additional resources are required:
      • 150 MB RAM for each CTTS language (excluding Simplified Chinese, which requires an additional 300 MB RAM)
      • 640 MB disk space for each CTTS language (excluding Simplified Chinese, which requires an additional 600 MB of disk space), of which 300 MB are for temporary storage

Compatibility

WebSphere Voice Server V3.1 is not compatible with previous versions. Previous versions of WebSphere Voice Server should be uninstalled before installing WebSphere Voice Server V3.1.

Limitations

When Used with Dialogic and Cisco Telephone Environments

If the ViaVoice desktop product is installed on the target system, it must be uninstalled before installing this package.

WebSphere Voice Response for AIX Environment

WebSphere Voice Response uses a VoiceXML browser application packaged with WebSphere Voice Response. VoiceXML uses application stored on a Web server instead of applications stored on DirectTalk®. Therefore, it does not use DirectTalk SSI environment for managing applications.

WebSphere Voice Server for Voice Response for AIX V3.1 is not compatible with previous versions. Previous versions of WebSphere Voice Server for Voice Response for AIX should be uninstalled prior installing WebSphere Voice Server V3.1.

Customer Responsibilities: It is the customer's responsibility to provide a technician with telephony platform expertise to set up the telephony environment and configure the gateways.

It is strongly recommended that planning and implementation of WebSphere Voice Server be done with an integration agreement with IBM Global Services or other capable service provider. Contact your IBM Voice Systems representative for more information.

This service enhances customers' productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organization. Packaging: WebSphere Voice Server V3.1 is shipped in 23 separate Passport Advantage media pack packages of which it is necessary to order a minimum of two:

  • One containing the base WebSphere Voice Server V3.1 code
  • A minimum of one language product to provide the desired language support for Speech Recognition and Formant TTS
  • If Concatenative TTS is desired then the correct language product containing the Concatenative TTS product.

Security, Auditability, and Control

WebSphere Voice Server V3.1 uses the security and auditability features of the respective operating systems.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

WebSphere Voice Server for Windows 2000 and AIX, V3.1 is a stand-alone product with one charge unit per processor. It is available in units of one. A "One Processor Entitlement" is required for each processor that the product is run on.

WebSphere Voice Server for Windows 2000 and AIX, V3.1, (part number BL00UNA) provides the base function and must be ordered in all instances except when Concatenative Text-To-Speech (TTS) is purchased and used as a standalone product. This base function provides the function for Voice Server used with the WebSphere Voice Response for AIX telephony platform, WebSphere Voice Response for Windows telephony platform, Voice Server when used with the Intel Dialogic telephony platform, Voice Server when used with the Cisco telephony platform, and Voice Server when used with WebSphere Speech Technology platform. These base products require that at a minimum a second product is ordered to provide the appropriate language support for the speech recognition and formant TTS function. In addition, if Concatenative TTS support is desired, then a third product, the appropriate Concatenative TTS language must also be ordered.

Each of the V3.1 Concatenative TTS language products may be run in a stand-alone manner without requiring the WebSphere Voice Server base product.

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Subscription and Technical Support, is now included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support for the product announced in this letter is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations.

IBM includes Software Maintenance with each program acquired during the coverage period. The coverage period means the period commencing on the date you acquire the program up to the first or second anniversary date, depending on whether you acquired coverage for one or two anniversaries. The coverage period for Software Maintenance acquired in the two months preceding an anniversary date will be extended to the next applicable anniversary date.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
