Overview

Extend Your Enterprise with DB2® Everyplace™

DB2 Everyplace is a small-footprint relational database and synchronization server designed to meet the needs of today's mobile workforce. DB2 Everyplace enables enterprise applications and enterprise data to be extended to mobile devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart phones. DB2 Everyplace can also be embedded into devices and appliances to increase their functionality and market appeal.

The DB2 Everyplace relational database is capable of high-performance data queries handling large volumes of mobile data and users using a high-powered database engine in a server in a connected or disconnected mode. This gives corporate users the flexibility of having information available to them whenever and wherever they need it without having to rely on expensive and unpredictable wireless connectivity. V8 also delivers information encrypted on the handheld device, which is a major step forward in ensuring that corporate data is safe no matter where it resides or who attempts to access it.

The DB2 Everyplace Sync Server securely exchanges data between enterprise data sources and mobile devices and also allows real-time queries to be performed. V8 delivers multiple server support and automatic upgrade deployment making it even more reliable, robust, and easy to use in a corporate environment.

For resource-limited pervasive devices, such as cell phones and pagers, DB2 Everyplace Sync Server provides a Java™ 2 MicroEdition (J2ME) Sync Client. With a very small footprint, the J2ME Sync Client uses the mobile information device profile (MIDP). J2ME MIDP provides the mobile data market with a standard platform for device-side development. The J2ME Sync Client provides a standard and secure interface to synchronize J2ME MIDP application data with enterprise data sources.

Using industry-standard tools and open APIs, DB2 Everyplace enables easy application development. You can write applications in Java or C/C++ code using WebSphere® Studio Device Developer or Metrowerks CodeWarrior. With the DB2 Everyplace Software Development Kit, which supports the Java, C/C++, and Visual Basic programming languages, you can quickly start developing applications. The DB2 Everyplace Mobile Application Builder is included for rapid application development without writing a single line of code. Developers can take advantage of IBM's AppForge plug-in to create mobile applications using Visual Basic.

The DB2 Everyplace SDK is included as part of DB2 Universal Developer's Edition, and is also available free for download from the DB2 Everyplace Web site at:

DB2 Everyplace provides a powerful mobile computing platform that is easily integrated into your existing enterprise data architecture. DB2 Everyplace on mobile devices increases the productivity of mobile employees and improves the usefulness of mobile devices. DB2 Everyplace is also a key component in IBM's overall pervasive and wireless solutions offerings so users can upgrade to a host of other IBM solutions from DB2 Everyplace when their mobile needs expand.
