IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases V5.1.0

The IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases product consists of three features (which are also known as Proactive Analysis Components) that help ensure the availability and optimal performance of Oracle, IBM DB2, and IBM Informix servers. The use of these features can help to eliminate the typical Database Administrator (DBA) dilemma of determining what to monitor, when to monitor, and how to interpret and act upon the monitor results, leaving more time for the DBA to focus on more complex and less repetitive tasks. The primary objective is to provide routine, consistent monitoring and to anticipate and correct problems before database performance and customer confidence is degraded.

All data captured by the monitors is delivered through an intuitive user interface and made available through historical and real-time reports. Each of the Proactive Analysis Components provides an "out-of-the-box" set of monitors (best practices) for quick deployment and activation. Custom monitors, thresholds, and tasks can also be defined, by the DBA, based on the best practices provided with the product.

Key functionality includes:

  • DB2 Connect® Server support
  • Linux endpoint support
  • HP-UX endpoint support

In addition, the product provides new and continued integration with:

  • IBM Tivoli Service Level Advisor for reports (based on historical data in the Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse) for predictive management and for compliance with service level agreements
  • IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager for a Line of Business view of business processes and the impact of "down" or "compromised" resources on those processes
Through the implementation of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases product, DBAs will be alerted when key performance and resource allocation problems are detected. Customers maximize their return on investment through increased efficiency of their IT staff, improved compliance to service-level objectives, and reduced cost of database system administration and deployment.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Messaging and Collaboration V5.1.0

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Messaging and Collaboration builds upon the new Tivoli performance and availability monitoring architecture, and provides rapid time-to-value through the deployment of best practices Resource Models to monitor and correct problems that arise in a messaging and collaboration environment. It includes support for the Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse, which provides enterprise-wide access to data for historical and trending analysis, reporting, and graphing. The incorporation of new ease-of-use capabilities can simplify product installation, configuration, and creation or customization of Resource Models. Integration with the Tivoli Monitoring health console provides a new real-time Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Enterprise Management.

This product release delivers a Proactive Analysis Component which allows administrators to ensure the availability and optimal performance of Lotus® Domino™ servers.

The key features of this release include:

  • An auto discovery during installation and configuration which discovers all the Domino servers within the Domino directory — without manual intervention
  • For Domino administrators, an intuitive and highly functional GUI that resembles the Domino Administrator client, and provides access to all the operational information, troubleshooting tools monitoring, and event configuration interface required to manage a Domino environment. This user interface is provided in addition to that available from the Tivoli Monitoring health console available for all IBM Tivoli Monitoring products.
  • Enhanced probes to measure and record application and server performance from an end user's viewpoint.
  • Best practices Resource Models that are deployed during installation and configuration include:

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services V5.1.0

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is part of a comprehensive Tivoli application management environment that leverages the benefits of common interfaces, data storage, and reporting capabilities. Customers will see rapid time-to-value, ease-of-use, and improved product quality. Features of Tivoli's application management approach include a menu-driven installation, auto-discovery, capture of available performance metrics, best practice monitoring, a new console for monitoring and displaying real-time health, as well as a common warehouse for historical data capture and reporting. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is designed to interoperate with Tivoli's other application management products to enable unique and comprehensive views into an enterprise's end-to-end extended environment.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is designed to provide two key benefits to customers. First, it enables a company to manage the extended enterprise by monitoring and managing internal and external transactions to help ensure quick, reliable, and secure data transmission. Secondly, it helps ensure user roles and security policy are extended and validated throughout an organization.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services also manages the complexity of modern computing environments. It simplifies the secure management of users, applications and devices. It strengthens the overall security associated with desktop users, dial-in users, and external e-commerce users. Finally, it extends the interoperability of systems and users across the entire enterprise.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure V5.1.0

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure improves the availability and optimal performance of critical resources such as Web servers and Web application servers. These resources, primary elements of e-business infrastructure, can provide the foundation for mission-critical applications requiring extremely high availability. If this infrastructure is unavailable or is performing poorly, end-user productivity decreases or stops. With customer-facing applications, the result can be lost revenue and a poor impression of the company associated with the Web site. The IBM Tivoli Web Infrastructure product is a powerful tool designed to help systems administrators ensure performance and availability of this critical infrastructure.

This product captures detailed status and performance metrics from the most commonly used Web infrastructure products. It then transforms this data into useful information for Systems Administrators by applying intelligence and delivering it via an intuitive user interface. The resulting performance and availability information is available via both near real-time and historical reporting. This can allow administrators to view the status of their entire Web infrastructure and quickly identify and cure problems as they arise. Additionally, it serves as input for company-wide service level agreements and capacity planning.

This release of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure will contain management for the leading Web servers and Web application servers:

  • IBM WebSphere Application Server
  • IBM HTTP Server (for the Web Apache Server)
  • iPlanet Web server
  • Microsoft IIS
  • BEA WebLogic Application Server

All of these products will be managed similarly, as they co-exist in a variety of configurations. Primary design considerations with this release emphasize rapid time-to-value, ease-of-use, and product quality.
