Preview: IBM Tivoli Monitoring Solutions Deliver Superior Management for Key Middleware and Operating Systems
At a Glance
Tivoli raises the bar for monitoring the leading operating systems and middleware with our new Tivoli Monitoring solutions. By leveraging extensive research to identify common problems and weaknesses found in the applications we monitor, we have created a set of "problem signatures," a combination of metrics and thresholds that trigger our identify, notify, and cure problem prevention mechanism. This technology allows Tivoli to provide a superior and robust management system.
IBM Tivoli® Monitoring provides the foundation for managing business-critical hardware and software including operating systems, middleware, and applications. The foundation product, IBM Tivoli Monitoring, combined with a new suite of proactive analysis components, is key to monitoring solutions from IBM Tivoli. IBM Tivoli Monitoring provides seamless integration with other Tivoli availability solutions (for example, IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager and IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console) to provide a complete, comprehensive performance and availability monitoring solution.
Previews provide insight into IBM plans and direction. Availability, prices, ordering information, and terms and conditions will be provided when the products are announced.
Additional information on features is available in the Description section.

Supported Database Platforms
IBM Tivoli Monitoring does not perform native-type access to Databases, as access is through the Resource Information Manager (RIM) interface. Databases currently listed as targets for RIM support are:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications V5.1.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications will focus on rapid time-to-value and best practices for each of the supported business applications. These best practices are delivered as Resource Models, support for the Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse, and integration in the Tivoli Monitoring health console as the new real-time front-end for Enterprise Management.
The specialties of each managed application provide best of breed support as addressed by the following two Proactive Analysis Components:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications V5.1.0 mySAP.com
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications is a proactive solution to manage your mySAP applications such as R/3 Enterprise, Business Information Warehouse®, Advanced Planner and Optimizer, and Portal Server. It will complement the Computer Center Management System Monitoring Architecture and provides in-depth capabilities to monitor, manage, and report on your mySAP landscape.
A centralized management pattern is added for a jump-start management capability including all mySAP operation platforms. The new resource model architecture (including best practices) allows intelligent root-cause analysis linking to a variety of context-sensitive help functions (integrating Web-based help). This enables short time-to-value and will help in solving the operational issues of the mySAP application landscape.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications V5.1.0 Siebel e-Business
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications delivers proactive management capabilities for all the key components of the Siebel eBusiness Applications environment (such as Applications Servers, Gateway Name Servers, and Connection Brokers) to ensure cost savings and unchallenged continuity of operations of the Siebel environment. This offering integrates with other Tivoli products such as IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases and IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration to manage the whole Siebel environment end-to-end.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration V5.1.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration provides comprehensive management for IBM WebSphere® MQ and IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator. From one central console, systems administrators can configure, monitor, and manage this business integration software across a variety of host and distributed platforms. It provides IT managers with the information required to help them understand the business-level impact of this integration software's availability and performance. Because host and distributed systems can be managed from the same desktop, systems administrators learn only one tool.
Key features of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration include:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases V5.1.0
The IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases product consists of three features (which are also known as Proactive Analysis Components) that help ensure the availability and optimal performance of Oracle, IBM DB2, and IBM Informix servers. The use of these features can help to eliminate the typical Database Administrator (DBA) dilemma of determining what to monitor, when to monitor, and how to interpret and act upon the monitor results, leaving more time for the DBA to focus on more complex and less repetitive tasks. The primary objective is to provide routine, consistent monitoring and to anticipate and correct problems before database performance and customer confidence is degraded.
All data captured by the monitors is delivered through an intuitive user interface and made available through historical and real-time reports. Each of the Proactive Analysis Components provides an "out-of-the-box" set of monitors (best practices) for quick deployment and activation. Custom monitors, thresholds, and tasks can also be defined, by the DBA, based on the best practices provided with the product.
Key functionality includes:
In addition, the product provides new and continued integration with:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Messaging and Collaboration V5.1.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Messaging and Collaboration builds upon the new Tivoli performance and availability monitoring architecture, and provides rapid time-to-value through the deployment of best practices Resource Models to monitor and correct problems that arise in a messaging and collaboration environment. It includes support for the Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse, which provides enterprise-wide access to data for historical and trending analysis, reporting, and graphing. The incorporation of new ease-of-use capabilities can simplify product installation, configuration, and creation or customization of Resource Models. Integration with the Tivoli Monitoring health console provides a new real-time Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Enterprise Management.
This product release delivers a Proactive Analysis Component which allows administrators to ensure the availability and optimal performance of Lotus® Domino servers.
The key features of this release include:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services V5.1.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is part of a comprehensive Tivoli application management environment that leverages the benefits of common interfaces, data storage, and reporting capabilities. Customers will see rapid time-to-value, ease-of-use, and improved product quality. Features of Tivoli's application management approach include a menu-driven installation, auto-discovery, capture of available performance metrics, best practice monitoring, a new console for monitoring and displaying real-time health, as well as a common warehouse for historical data capture and reporting. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is designed to interoperate with Tivoli's other application management products to enable unique and comprehensive views into an enterprise's end-to-end extended environment.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services is designed to provide two key benefits to customers. First, it enables a company to manage the extended enterprise by monitoring and managing internal and external transactions to help ensure quick, reliable, and secure data transmission. Secondly, it helps ensure user roles and security policy are extended and validated throughout an organization.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Security and Edge Services also manages the complexity of modern computing environments. It simplifies the secure management of users, applications and devices. It strengthens the overall security associated with desktop users, dial-in users, and external e-commerce users. Finally, it extends the interoperability of systems and users across the entire enterprise.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure V5.1.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure improves the availability and optimal performance of critical resources such as Web servers and Web application servers. These resources, primary elements of e-business infrastructure, can provide the foundation for mission-critical applications requiring extremely high availability. If this infrastructure is unavailable or is performing poorly, end-user productivity decreases or stops. With customer-facing applications, the result can be lost revenue and a poor impression of the company associated with the Web site. The IBM Tivoli Web Infrastructure product is a powerful tool designed to help systems administrators ensure performance and availability of this critical infrastructure.
This product captures detailed status and performance metrics from the most commonly used Web infrastructure products. It then transforms this data into useful information for Systems Administrators by applying intelligence and delivering it via an intuitive user interface. The resulting performance and availability information is available via both near real-time and historical reporting. This can allow administrators to view the status of their entire Web infrastructure and quickly identify and cure problems as they arise. Additionally, it serves as input for company-wide service level agreements and capacity planning.
This release of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure will contain management for the leading Web servers and Web application servers:
All of these products will be managed similarly, as they co-exist in a variety of configurations. Primary design considerations with this release emphasize rapid time-to-value, ease-of-use, and product quality.
