More about WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 can help convert application data forms into (or from) industry-specific, EDI standards or other fixed application data formats.
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 electronically translates data, such as invoices, purchase orders, and billing forms, for exchange with trading partners either via the Information Exchange commerce engine or by using MQ messaging queues supported on a variety of operating systems and the MQSeries Services offering.
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 Client provides a GUI for server administration.
Previous Program Information
DataInterchange MVS (V3.1) and DataInterchange MVS/CICS® V3.1 provided by IBM Interchange Services for e-business are also available. Refer to Software Announcement 298-393 , dated December 11, 1998, for more information.
The WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 Client requires a Pentium® PC with a minimum 64 MB RAM and open database connectivity (ODBC) to the server systems.
With WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1, you can create application data mappings to be used as a stand-alone EDI integrated with other applications through APIs, on either an AIX or Windows 2000 platform for real-time processing. The application data mappings convert from/into proprietary EDI standards, including but not limited to, ANSI X.12, UN/EDIFACT, and UCS. WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 supports subsets of the published ANSI X 12, and UN/EDIFACT standards, as interpreted by industries such as transportation, electronics, automotive, petroleum, healthcare, insurance, and manufacturing.
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 Client:
A WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 Client is
included with the product. It is implemented for a 32-bit, Windows 95,
98, and 2000 client/server architecture and is designed for a Pentium PC
with a minimum 64 MB RAM. It should also have open database connectivity
(ODBC) to the server system.
This program is not impacted by euro currency.
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 is designed to provide a powerful data translation and transaction management solution that can grow with a customer's EDI or electronic commerce requirements. Enhanced integration with WebSphere MQ Integrator allows WebSphere Data Interchange to add EDI functionality to the premier EAI solution. WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 is also designed to help you get a quick start on EDI by enabling communication with your trading partner either via Information Exchange commerce engine by using Expedite software or MQSeries messaging queues, which supports many diverse platforms, including HP, Sun, AIX, Windows, and others.

Security, Auditability, and Control
It is recommended that a data security facility is used with WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 has a Charge Unit called a Capacity Unit. Multiple Capacity Units will need to be purchased depending on the applicable processor group WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 has been installed on.
For example: If the customer has 2 servers in Tier 2 and 2 servers in Tier 3, the total number of Capacity Units required = 24 (2x4 plus 2x8).
A Capacity Unit Calculator is also available at:
For this program, the Program License Charge Unit is based on the number of processors by server. Capacity Units are available in units of one, and are required for every machine on which the WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 is installed. The program includes the WebSphere Data Interchange for Multiplatforms V3.1 Client, which may be used either on the same processor as that on which the program's server code is running, or on no more that one other Intel-based machine.
No separate server authorizations are required to license any other component part of the media package.
The number of Capacity Units required for use of the program on any machine is based on the number of symmetrical multiprocessors (SMP) in the machine, as per the following table:
CUs/ Server Usage Level Tier 5-Tier Server definitions: Tier 1 2 Intel uniprocessors 5-Tier Server definitions: Tier 2 4 Intel 2 processor RISC <=2 processors 5-Tier Server definitions: Tier 3 8 RISC/Intel 3-8 processors 5-Tier Server definitions: Tier 4 16 RISC/Intel 9-23 processors 5-Tier Server definitions: Tier 5 30 RISC/Intel 24+ processors
Note: Intel machines include compatible processors such as Cyrix and AMD.
Where a server has the ability separately to partition or subset its SMPs in such a way that it is necessary to run multiple copies of the operating system in each subset, the number of charge units or use authorizations required will be based on the above tiering, and each partition or subset will need to be separately licensed. No other restriction of use of SMPs qualifies for any reduced capacity unit requirement.
Users should retain their original product and Capacity Units as Proof of Entitlement (PoE).
