In addition to the ability to analyze network activities, NPM monitors, records, and interactively reports network communication, performance, and utilization. With its ability to provide network tuning information, support problem determination tools, and support multiple protocols, NPM offers a network performance management tool for today's heterogeneous networks. The following enhancements are available in V2.7.
Dynamic NetView Performance Monitor (NPM) Configuration Discovery via RODMThis enhancement enables NPM to gather information about network configuration for SNA, IP, and Application resources by dynamically reading the information from the RODM repository and adding the information into the NPM environment. NPM also manages the dynamic changes in the network configuration during the run. Configuration information is gathered from the RODM repository and defined to NPM for:
New SESSAPPL Command
With this enhancement, in addition to defining applications at
initialization time, applications can also be defined using a new
SESSAPPL command via an NPM EXEC or the system console, or both. This
new SESSAPPL command contains all the parameters that need to be
specified in the APPL statement of the FNMINIT member and a new OPTION
field. The new OPTION field allows for specifying the options of Add,
Delete, or Replace of an application definition.
New Counters for 3746 NNP Support
This enhancement enables NPM V2.7 to support new counters coming from
3746 Network Node Processor, (NNP). With this function, the component
Network Performance Analyzer, (NPA) in the NNP will send the Processor
utilization for the NPM session managing the Advanced Peer-to-Peer
Network (APPN®) resources.
NPM Collection for MPC Devices
This enhancement enables NPM to gather additional statistics for the MPC
types. NPM V2.7 supports MPC devices and can collect VTAM® statistics
for the MPC group and for the MPC devices.
Integration between TBSM and NPM GUIWith NPM V2.7 from the Tivoli Business Systems Manager Console, you can click on a resource (also managed by NPM) to start the TBSM-NPM Console. On this console the user can:

Product PositioningTivoli NPM provides the necessary information, associated with a customer's communications network, to assist with performance management, network accounting, and problem determination. Customers using NetView for OS/390 and Novell NetWare can realize the benefits of managing the performance of their networks using Tivoli NPM. Tivoli NPM continues to evolve to meet users' changing management needs.
