CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer is easy to install and to use. Key PrerequisitesCICS Transaction Server for z/OS, or CICS Transaction Server for OS/390®, or CICS/ESA® V4.1
DescriptionCICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer for z/OS operates in CICS, reducing the number of characters transmitted to supported devices by making optimum use of all available orders for each device type. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer keeps the screen layout of conversational terminals in memory so that only changed data is transmitted. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer can also reduce the contention between the devices on a communications line and between devices connected to local controllers, helping to improve response times because messages arrive quicker at each device. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer uses the following optimization techniques:
CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer provides the system administrator the following controls:
The operation of CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer is transparent to the users as the product automatically starts up and shuts down with CICS. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer monitors its own operations and tells you how effective its optimization is in your environment by continually monitoring operations and reporting its own progress on demand. Operational statistics may be displayed on a screen or written to the console. At system shut down, statistics can be optionally written to the console or a file.
All controls and settings can be entered on a temporary or permanent
basis. Permanent controls are still active at the next start-up and
temporary controls are effective only during the current start-up.

Value Unit Based PricingValue Unit based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the Parallel Sysplex® License Charge (PSLC) pricing curve which provides for a lower price per millions of service units per hour (MSU) for larger capacities. There will also be a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, that is, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be
exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value Units of another product.
International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and Subscription and Support ConsiderationsIPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the Entitlement of the Product License. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the Product License entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Product PositioningIBM CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer is one of a set of tools from IBM that help CICS customers to reduce operational costs by managing their CICS systems workload, network resource utilization, and end-user productivity efficiently. Technical InformationSpecified Operating EnvironmentHardware RequirementsCICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer for z/OS operates on any hardware supporting CICS/ESA® V4.1, CICS Transaction Server for OS/390® V1, or CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V2. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer supports both local and remote devices using the VTAM®/SDLC protocol. Devices connected via ACF/TCAM do so through TCAM's Subsystem Interface (SSI), and appear to CICS as if they are using one of the valid VTAM protocols. CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer supports the following Logical Unit (LU) types and devices or their equivalent emulators:
CICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer also supports other non IBM
devices that are compatible with the terminals listed above. To be
supported, these terminals must recognize standard 3270 hardware order
streams and not object to String Control Byte (SCB) compression.
Software RequirementsCICS Online Transmission Time Optimizer requires System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E) of the supported z/OS or OS/390 system for installation and maintenance. It operates with the following (minimum level) CICS configurations:
Note that effective December 31, 2002, IBM will discontinue Program Services for CICS/ESA V4.1. CICS/ESA V4.1 is replaced by CICS Transaction Server. Refer to Withdrawal Announcement 900-305 , dated December 12, 2000.

The products in this announcement have one charge unit Value Units. Value Units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390-based systems that are measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the IBM System/370, System/390® and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901).
Value Units for IBM There will be a tool available that provides support for transforming the MSU-based capacities of S/390 Systems to new Value Units by calculating the applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs.
Ordering Example The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example. If the customer has installed 1000 MSUs, the applicable Value Units would be: Translation from MSUs to Value Units
Value
Units/ Value
MSUs * MSU = Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * 0.45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * 0.36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * 0.27 = 37.80
Tier D 685 * 0.20 = 137.00
Total 1,000 244
When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.
250 Value Units 0002 For a product running on machines with 1000 MSUs requiring 244 Value Units, the customer would order feature number 0001, quantity 244.
