Overview

VSE and VM customers can have a powerful relational database solution enabling e-business and business intelligence solutions for the enterprise with:

  • Greater security
    • Support for DB2® Server for VSE &. VM requesters to encrypt the password and for the server to decrypt it.
    • Support for the CONNECT IDENTIFIED BY statement to be issued over Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA®).
  • Database definition duplication and maintenance by providing a database object definition duplication utility. The output from the utility is a Database Services Utility (DBSU) job used to create the same objects on another DB2 database.
  • Enhanced TCP/IP support enables the database to detect when TCP/IP goes down, and to automatically restart it.
  • Archive tape handling enhancements
    • Allow an existing tape manager to handle logical and physical tape assignments.
    • In the DB2 Server for VSE environment, enable automatic unloading at the end of writing to a tape, whether it has been statically or dynamically assigned.
  • GETMAIN and FREEMAIN calls under CICS®, allowing users to use the STGPROT=YES parameter when starting CICS TS for VSE/ESA™.
  • Enhanced SHOW DBCONFIG and SHOW INITPARM command output shows the current version/release/modification of the database.
  • New SHOW SQLDBGEN operator command displays the current database configuration.

Key Prerequisites

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, Version 7 Release 2 runs on any platform that runs the VSE/ESA (5690-VSE) Version 2 Release 3 Modification 1, and later, or VM/ESA® (5654-030) Version 2 Release 3, and later, operating systems.

The VSE DB2-based connectors are only available on VSE/ESA Version 2 Release 5, and later.

DB2 Connect® (5648-B95, 5648-B96) Version 6 Release  1, or later, is required for the VSE DB2-based connectors.

Description

Security Enhancements

  • Support for DB2 Server for VSE & VM requesters to encrypt the password and the server to decrypt it.
  • Support for the CONNECT IDENTIFIED BY statement to be issued over DRDA.

Migration Utility

  • Database definition duplication and maintenance by providing a database object definition duplication utility. The output from the utility is a DBSU job, which can be used to create the same objects on another DB2 database.

Auto Restart TCP/IP

  • Enhanced TCP/IP support, which enables the database to detect that TCP/IP has gone down, and to automatically restart it.

Technical Information

Hardware Requirements

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2 will run on any IBM processor, with the conditional swapping and extended precision floating-point features, supported by one of the following operating systems:

  • VSE/ESA™ V2R3.1, or later
  • VM/ESA® V2R3, or later
  • z/VM™ V3R1
  • z/VM V4R1, or later (standard engines only)

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2 will support all DASD devices supported by the operating systems through VSAM data management facilities (in VSE/ESA) or by VM DASD Block I/O Facilities (in VM/ESA and z/VM). DB2 Server for VM takes advantage of DFSMS/VM® in the VM environment. The DB2 Data Spaces Support option will support all current DASD devices supported by the VM Paging Subsystem.

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2 will support, through VSE/ESA, VM/ESA, or z/VM, tape-handling devices supported by those operating systems.

ISQL will support 3270 compatible terminals.

The DBS Utility supports a terminal interface through ICCF and CMS.

In a VM environment, results from ISQL, the interactive facility for DB2 Server for VM, may be printed on any system printer supported by VM, or any remote printer through the RSCS Networking supported by the operating system.

In a VSE environment, ISQL results may be printed on any system-supported printer using VSE/POWER supported by the VSE/ESA operating systems. Any IBM 3270 Information Display System terminal printer supported by the Basic Mapping Support facility of CICS/VSE® or Transaction Server can print the ISQL results.

Software Requirements

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2 fully exploits and functions with the optional DB2 features at the V7R1 level, including Data Restore, Control Center, RXSQL, and QMF™.

In the VM environment, the DB2 Server for VM program product works with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • Virtual Machine/Enterprise Systems Architecture (5654-030) V2R3.0, or later.
  • z/VM (5654-A17) V3R1.0.
  • z/VM (5739-A03) V4R1.0, or later. DB2 Server for VM is licensed for a standard engine environment only and is not supported in a z/VM Version 4 environment running on Integrated Facility for Linux engines.
  • Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA®)-Distributed Unit of Work (DUOW) support requires APPC/VM VTAM® Support (AVS) and Coordinated Resource Recovery (CRR), which are part of VM/ESA V2R3, or later, z/VM V3R1, and z/VM V4R1.0, or later.

In the VSE/ESA environment, the DB2 Server for VSE program product and its features work with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • Virtual Storage Extended/Enterprise Systems Architecture (5690-VSE) V2R3.1, or later.
  • As shipped, VSE/ESA consists of a number of base programs. DB2 Server for VSE makes use of the following base program shipped with VSE/ESA V2R3.1, and later:
    • VSE/VSAM (part of VSE Central Functions V6R3, or later)

Optional:

  • As shipped, VSE/ESA consists of a number of base programs. DB2 Server for VSE may optionally use the following base programs shipped with VSE/ESA V2R3.1, and later:
    • CICS/VSE (V2R3, and later) or CICS® Transaction Server (V1R1, and later) is required to support:
      • Interactive users
      • CICS transactions
      • Remote Unit of Work (RUOW) application server and application requester functions of DRDA over SNA.
      • DUOW application server function of DRDA over SNA.
    • VSE/POWER (part of VSE Central Functions V6R3, or later) is required for online environments doing report writing via ISQL.

    • Language Environment (LE) for VSE, V1.4.0 with PTFs, or later, is required to support RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over TCP/IP.
    • LE for VSE, V1.4.2, or later, is required to support password encryption.
    • CICS/TS for VSE APAR PQ47192 is required in order to use STGPROT=YES with DB2 Server for VSE & VM. The PTFs for the appropriate releases are:
      • For RA0P, PTF UQ54622 is required.
      • For RB0P, PTF UQ54623 is required.
      • UQ54623 is part of VSE/ESA V2.5.2.

The DB2 Server for VSE & VM licensed program will work with these products, and subsequent releases and modification levels, unless otherwise stated.

Any level of COBOL, PL/I, C, or Assembler current with the operating system can be used.

The level of FORTRAN required is one supported by the VS FORTRAN compiler with the LANGLVL (77) option specified or defaulted.

Compatibility: DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2 is upwardly compatible with DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.1.

User Group Requirements: This announcement satisfies or partially satisfies nine requirements from one or more of the worldwide user group communities. Customer Responsibilities: A copy of the DB2 Universal Developer's Edition is shipped automatically with the DB2 Server for VSE & VM program. This program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user in association with the licensed use of VSE/ESA Version 2 Release 6 or DB2 Server for VSE & VM. You may only use this program for evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

In addition, this program does not entitle customers to receive technical support. For more information on the use of this program, refer to the License Information (LI) booklet supplied in the program package.

If you want to perform multiple installations and/or distribution of the components of this program, you must contact IBM or your software reseller to obtain the appropriate licenses. You can obtain additional copies of this program by ordering any of the following part numbers:

DB2 Server for VSE, V7R2 uses an access/usage protection method that requires a key to enable the software function:

  • DB2 Server for VSE, V7R2 is also delivered on the VSE/ESA V2R6 Extended Base Tape. Users on VSE/ESA V2R6 will have a 90-day trial period to evaluate the DB2 product and the DB2-based connectors of VSE/ESA V2R6. After the 90-day trial period is over, DB2 Server for VSE can only be activated by entering an activation key, which is provided when DB2 Server for VSE & VM is ordered.
  • Users on VSE/ESA V2R4, or earlier, can still activate DB2 Server for VSE, V7R2 without entering the DB2 activation key. A 90-day trial period does not apply in this case. Users on VSE/ESA V2R4, or earlier, are not entitled to a 90-day trial period.

The password key will always be generated and delivered automatically from IBM accordingly whenever an order is placed for DB2 Server for VSE & VM.

Software Key Management: In exceptional cases (off-line situations), it may be necessary to contact the IBM Registration Center by telephone, fax, mail, or e-mail as appropriate. Note, the IBM Registration Center cannot handle product/license orders. You may contact them only if you already have a license for your software program.

Security, Auditability, and Control

The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the host operating system. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Ordering Information

Current Licensees

Current licensees of DB2 Server for VSE & VM (5697-F42) will be sent a program reorder form that can be returned directly to IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF). Reorder forms are scheduled to be mailed by December 28, 2001. Reorder forms returned to IBM SDF will be processed within 10 workdays of receipt.

When Version 7 Release 2 is available, Version 7 Release 1 will no longer be available.

New Licensees

Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.

Shipment will begin on December 14, 2001. Orders that ship after December 14, 2001, will receive IBM DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2.

New users of IBM DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7R2 should specify machine type/model 5697-F42.

Basic License: All feature numbers can be found in Software Announcement 200-292 , dated September 5, 2000.

Note: The group can be determined by referring to either the Exhibit for IBM System/390® Machines (Z125-3901) or the Exhibit for Non-IBM Machines (Z125-3902) (Z125-4073) associated with the IBM Customer Agreement (Z125-4575).

Entry Support License (ESL): To order an ESL license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the applicable ESL one-time charge (OTC) feature number. Also specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.

All feature numbers can be found in Software Announcement 200-292 , dated September 5, 2000.

ESL machines can be determined by referring to the IBM Entry End User/390 Attachment (Z125-4379).

Single Version Charging: To elect single version charging, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the designated machine the programs are operating on.

Basic Machine-Readable Material: All feature numbers can be found in Software Announcement 200-292 , dated September 5, 2000.

Customization Options: Select the appropriate feature numbers to customize your order to specify the delivery options desired. These features can be specified on the initial or MES orders.

Example: If publications are not desired for the initial order, specify feature number 3470 to ship media only. For future updates, specify feature number 3480 to ship media updates only. If, in the future, publication updates are required, order an MES to remove feature number 3480; then, the publications will ship with the next release of the program.

Expedite shipments will be processed to receive 72-hour delivery from the time IBM SDF receives the order. SDF will then ship the order via overnight air transportation.

DSLO License: All feature numbers can be found in Software Announcement 200-292 , dated September 5, 2000. Ordering a DSLO feature will result in IBM maintaining a record of this customer location as a DSLO user only. All material for the DSLO license will be provided through the basic license location. If a user selects DSLO, no other feature numbers are valid for this order and no program materials or updates will be shipped.

Extended License Charge (ELC) Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the appropriate program and feature number, if required, for asset registration. Specify the applicable ELC features. Also, specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.

Processors with assigned capacity above 80 MSUs will now have DB2 Server for VSE & VM software prices based on the CPU service unit capacity of the processor. The ELC price structure will have a Base Charge for 80 MSU capacity and an incremental Per MSU charge for all additional MSUs above the 80 MSU base.

Licensed Documentation: The DB2 Server for VSE & VM Diagnosis Guide and Reference (LC09-2907) will be available from IBM by December 14, 2001. One copy is supplied automatically with the basic machine-readable material.

Subsequent updates (technical newsletters or revisions between releases) to the publications shipped with the product will be distributed to the user of record for as long as a license for this software remains in effect. A separate publication order or subscription is not needed.
The DB2 Server for VSE & VM Diagnosis Guide and Reference (LC09-2907) will be available after December 14, 2001.

OTC: Customers who pay a OTC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated OTC if applicable or graduated MLC will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of OTC licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of OTC charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of OTC paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of MLC licenses, the MLC applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.

Entry Support License OTC: An OTC authorizes use only on IBM Entry End User/390 Machines.
