OverviewWebSphere MQ Integrator® for z/OS V2.1 extends MQ message broker availability to the z/OS platform and adds significant capabilities to those previously provided by the MQSeries® Integrator for OS/390® and DB2®. This program offering, previously known on other platforms as the MQSeries Integrator, is central to the WebSphere MQ software platform. It helps you to:
Open, yet secure...WebSphere MQ Integrator cross-platform middleware is scalable and manageable. Span the divide between business processes and provide consistent information within and between enterprises. Business Process Management The WebSphere platform for e-business includes business process management (BPM) products and solutions that help integrate a single department or pervade the entire enterprise, reaching across business channels, trading partners, and Web customers. There are eight key BPM elements, which can be combined selectively or built up, one upon the other, to provide more powerful and efficient integration:
Gold Award for Solution of the Year 2001 from eAL Journal, awarded the Crossroads A-List Award 2001 from Enterprise Application and Data Integration in the Business and Technology Infrastructure Group and named Application Integration/Middleware product of the year 2000 by Datamation. DescriptionWebSphere MQ IntegratorWebSphere MQ Integrator technology is a powerful information broker that selects and distributes information to the applications, databases, and people who need it. Users can implement realtime, application-to-application message transformation and intelligent message routing quickly and easily. It is flexible so applications can be added, extended, or replaced within information flows. WebSphere MQ Integrator is a cross-platform middleware application integration engine a powerful information broker that manages:
MQSeries Integrator is architected with a library of nodes produced by IBM and delivered with the product. In addition, further plug-in nodes and parsers can be downloaded. Customers, Business Partners, or other third parties may add to these functions by developing further plug-ins, which may be used with this open framework concept. WebSphere MQ Integrator uses MQSeries to send and receive messages between applications. With WebSphere MQ Integrator, operations are performed on the messages. These operations could include:
Message formats can be self-defining, using XML, or defined using an
IBM-provided format repository or third-party message dictionaries.
Predefined templates mean WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 can
exchange information with major packaged applications.
Benefits of WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 is an evolutionary step forward. This product adds significant capabilities to functions previously provided by MQSeries Integrator for OS/390 and DB2. Extending support for WebSphere MQ Integrator V2 to the z/OS platform offers increased integration opportunities for z/OS customers with:
In addition to those provided in previous releases MQSeries Integrator provides the following benefits:
WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 includes a full license for
MQSeries, and the functionality of MQSeries Integrator on other
corresponding platforms.
Features of WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1Improved Message Repository Manager (MRM): WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 includes a new version of the MRM with significantly enhanced support for XML messages and support for industry-standard, "tag-delimited" message formats such as SWIFT, EDI, and AL3 (ACORD). Extensions to the Logical Model
New XML Mapping Layer: A new "XML layer" in the data model allows the following aspects of the mapping between the logical model and physical XML to be defined:
In addition, the range of supported identifiers includes any valid XML element name, without the ":" character (in other words, it must start with a letter or underscore and can continue with letters, digits, underscores, hyphens, or full stops). Tagged Format Support: A new Tag Wire Format (TWF) layer in the message model allows the physical mapping to be defined for tag-delimited strings:
Specializations of this TWF layer are provided with preset values for:
Enhanced Support for Plug-in Node Developers: The plug-in node API enables customers and Business Partners to write additional input nodes for WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1. A new set of Java objects and classes is provided to support the development and deployment of plug-in nodes written in Java. This new interface provides access to the full range of function required for the development of new plug-in nodes. New ESQL Features: The ESQL nodes (Compute, Database, DataInsert, DataUpdate, and DataDelete) are rationalized to support a consistent set of capabilities and functions. A number of new features in the ESQL engine in WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 include:
Drag-and-drop capability is improved in the corresponding node customizers.
Transaction Processing SupportPacsEach SupportPac supplies a particular function or service that can be used with one or more of the WebSphere MQ products. New SupportPacs are now available:

Value Unit Based PricingValue Unit based pricing will help to align the prices of these Products to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities. There is also be a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, that is, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given Product cannot be
exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value Units of another Product.
IPLA and Subscription and Support ConsiderationsIPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the Product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the Entitlement of the Product License. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the Product License entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Product PositioningIntegration is fundamental to business. You need to integrate applications both existing and new to realize your e-business goals. The MQSeries Integrator represents the IBM response to this market need. The WebSphere MQ Integrator initiative addresses business and application integration by helping you manage information flow with:
System connectivity is typically enhanced into application integration by developers who write code to capture, evaluate, translate, and reformat data from source applications to a format understood by destination applications. This can be simplified at design, development, and maintenance stages by using MQ Integrator, rather than traditional programming techniques, saving both time and effort. Positioning with Business Process Management The WebSphere platform for e-business includes business process management (BPM) products and solutions that help integrate a single department or pervade the entire enterprise, reaching across business channels, trading partners and Web customers. Eight key BPM elements, which can be combined selectively or built up, one upon the other, to provide more powerful and efficient integration:
Positioning with WebSphere Transcoding Publisher
MQSeries Integrator and WebSphere Transcoding Publisher can work together to extend your business-to-business integration to new environments, such as pervasive devices. For example, MQSeries Integrator could be used alongside WebSphere Transcoding Publisher to deal directly with HTML-based pages, which need both reformatting and routing. Each component may be installed on only a single machine at any one time under the terms of the WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 license, except for the Control Center, which may be installed on multiple machines provided that they are all used in conjunction with the same message broker machine. Customer Responsibilities: You must provide at least the minimum hardware and software environments in which the licensed programs operate. Problem determination (PD) is a customer responsibility. PD is an assessment of whether a problem is caused by hardware or software. PD is complete only when the cause of the problem is identified. This assessment includes examination of available symptoms using the PD procedures documented in the product. Problem source identification (PSI) is a customer responsibility. PSI begins when software is determined to be the source of the problem. PSI includes tracing the source of the program to a host system control program (SCP), an application program, or another source. Assisting the customer with PSI is an IBM service and support responsibility. Installability: Users of MQSeries Integrator, V1 may continue to use message format definitions developed for this product. Security, Auditability, and ControlWebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 uses the security and auditability features of the workstation or server operating system. In addition, WebSphere MQ implements a level of security including access control of queues and authorization between message queue managers. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities. Ordering Information
It is the use of the Message Broker component that determines which
WebSphere MQ Integrator product is required. Users of WebSphere MQ
Integrator for z/OS V2.1 may only run the message broker on the IBM Charge Units for WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1The charge units used for WebSphere MQ Integrator for z/OS V2.1 are based on value units, depending on the Measured System Usage (MSU) level of the Server on which the Message Broker is installed. MSU tiers are applied and the cumulative Value Unit/MSU rate determines the charge. For information on value units refer to the Ordering Information section. Value Unit Transferability: Value Units purchased under this announcement are intended to be used on z/OS or OS/390 only. Capacity Units purchased to use WebSphere MQ Integrator on other platforms can be transferred for use on z/OS but only with reference to the IBM Special Bid pricer for approval. The products in this announcement have one charge unit: Value Units. Value Units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390®-based systems that are measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the IBM System/370, System/390® and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901). Value Units for zSeries are based upon full MSU capacity as defined in the Machine Exhibits. A tool available will provide support for transforming the MSU-based capacities of S/390 systems to new Value Units by calculating the applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs. Translation from MSUs to Value Units Example Translation from MSUs to Value Units
