Overview

The Versata System enables corporations to utilize business rules technology to accelerate and simplify the way the business logic for enterprise WebSphere™ Application Server systems is developed and maintained.

The Versata System, at its core, revolves around the Versata Logic Server for WebSphere. Powered by the Transaction Logic Engine, the Logic Server is a "smart container" hosting prebuilt components to operate within the WebSphere Application Server.

These prebuilt logic services implement a J2EE pattern framework to provide the necessary, reusable services such as:

  • Data validations
  • Object integrity
  • Cross-object navigation
  • Transaction sequencing
  • Event-action synchronization

By automating development and providing a proven framework, developers using Versata can focus on the business functionality of their applications rather than infrastructure code.

The business logic components, built within the Versata Studio, start from object designs with business logic and rule specifications. The Studio then compiles and deploys these objects as service-based transactional components (EJBs) into the prebuilt J2EE pattern framework hosted within the Versata Logic Server for WebSphere.

This approach encourages IT shops to collaborate with business managers and place functionality ahead of procedure in the development cycle — a significant value add when designing and changing WebSphere applications.

Versata Studio

Versata Studio is a part of the Versata System. It offers a development environment where a company:

Versata Logic Server

The Versata Logic Server (VLS) is comprised of a production-level version of the Transaction Logic Engine.

The VLS is a "smart container" hosting prebuilt services to enable business logic components created and deployed by Versata to operate within the WebSphere Application Server.

Upgrades: Provided in this announcement are trade-up part numbers for customers wishing to receive IBM software support and subscription. Customers who currently have a Versata License Agreement for the Versata System for WebSphere (5620-DMK and/or 5620-DML), with software support and subscription license from Versata, can choose to purchase IBM software subscription and support renewal through these part numbers. Customers currently running on a non-WebSphere application server, using the Versata System (CORBA, BEA), and looking to migrate over to a WebSphere solution, will be able to order the Versata System running on WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition, through the migration trade-up part numbers. Proof of Entitlements for these part numbers is required and WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition, Version 3.5, is a prerequisite.

Current VisualAge® Application Rules customers still using IBM software subscription will be able to migrate to new Passport Advantage part numbers for IBM support and subscription services.
