Refer to the Software Requirements section for details. Planned Availability Dates
Tivoli support for V2R3 and V2R3.1 of Tivoli Manager for MQSeries and V2R1 and V2R2 of OS/390 components of Tivoli Manager for MQSeries will be discontinued August 31, 2002, 12 months after the planned availability of the new V2.4 of Tivoli Manager for MQSeries (5698-MQS). DescriptionTivoli Manager for MQSeries manages MQSeries messaging and queuing middleware. From a central location, it can manage thousands of MQSeries objects across geographically dispersed sites with distributed and host networks. Gain a high degree of management control of MQSeries and reduce the complexity and cost of deploying and administering MQSeries networks.
Tivoli's Manager integrates MQSeries management with that of the
underlying operating systems, databases, and networks for a comprehensive
approach to applications management.
Three Primary Areas of MQSeries Management
Configuration Management: The manager supports the definition and configuration of queue managers, queues, channels, and other MQSeries objects from a central GUI console. Different queue and channel configurations for different policy regions are easily created and distributed to the MQSeries network. Through the Clone function, a queue manager can be configured once and cloned to multiple objects. In addition, the manager provides a discovery feature that automatically detects queue managers and populates the Tivoli desktop with icons representing them. Event Management: Tivoli Manager for MQSeries provides both in- and out-of-band event monitoring to ensure the availability of MQSeries. In-band monitoring is achieved by monitoring MQSeries queue manager, channel and performance events. These events are filtered according to users' preferences and the more critical events are forwarded to the central console for display and action. Tivoli's Distributed Monitoring handles the out-of-band monitoring, which does not rely on MQSeries. Through periodic polling, monitors verify the network path between the central console and all MQSeries servers, the up-status of key MQSeries processes, and the health of the Tivoli component processes. The queue managers' operational condition is displayed live at the management console. The monitoring collections provided with the Tivoli MQSeries manager are fully extendable, allowing for the monitoring of additional user-defined events and conditions. Operational Management and Automation: All MQSeries administrative and operational commands are supported from drop-down menus on the Queue Manager icons found on the central console. In addition, the administrator is free to define new tasks and assign the appropriate level of security. Tasks can also be automated to run on a scheduled basis or as the result of an event or the correlation of several events. Using the manager's Tivoli Enterprise Console® (TEC), rules, the TEC server event correlation engine permits events from different sources, such as network routers and MQSeries channels, to be evaluated in context with one another for appropriate action. Rules can be defined to process and correlate these events and to take automated action based on predefined event conditions. A set of default rules provide a clear, accurate view of the MQSeries environment, consolidating events that span geographic distances and heterogeneous systems.
MQSeries management can be divided into domains based on business
functions or geographic regions. This allows different management
policies to be defined for MQSeries sub-regions. It also leverages the
productivity of senior administrators by allowing less critical or
routine operational tasks to be performed by more junior administrators.
