You can start pervasive e-business quickly by installing and using the features of Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 that are required to meet your business objectives. You can grow quickly by adding new features and capabilities as necessary.

Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 Functionality

Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 provides for today's pervasive marketplace and supports future growth in the following functional areas: content adaptation, application integration, optimization, management and security, and services.

  • Content adaptation extends applications to new classes of pervasive computing devices that have different characteristics (storage, screen size) and supports the intermittent nature of mobile device connectivity.
    • WebSphere Transcoding Publisher provides a standard set of transcoders for transforming and reformatting information to meet device, data, or user needs. It includes a developer toolkit for customizing existing transcoders and for creating new transcoders and new device profiles.
    • MQSeries Everyplace Server provides a reliable messaging infrastructure for connecting mobile clients with servers and enables applications to queue up data when network connections are not present.
    • For i-mode in Japan, Everyplace Cookie Proxy provides connection between i-mode phones and Web applications by emulating the browser's cookie function, as i-mode phones do not support cookies.
  • Application integration uses standard interfaces, including XML, ODBC, and SMTP, to integrate with existing Web applications.

WebSphere Edge Server manages Web transactions efficiently and helps solve the challenges of Web site response time, scalability, and availability.

    • Includes a robust caching proxy for scalability, performance, usability, and capacity planning improvements
    • Provides a network dispatcher for load balancing
    • Enables improved scalability of availability of Web, FTP, or other TCP-based server clusters; also provides mutual high-availability backup
  • Management and Security
    • Device Manager includes support for managing services for pervasive computing devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), cellular phones, palmtop computers, and other portable devices and includes functionality such as configuration and software distribution depending on the capabilities of the device.
    • Plug-in support is provided for deployed user management systems, directory services, and authentication.
  • Services

Everyplace Suite Installer and Everyplace Administration Console provide integrated installation, configuration, and operation that simplifies administration and enables customers to install only the services that meet their business objectives. It automatically checks for prerequisite components and installs them if needed. The Console gives system administrators a central access point for administrative operations.

Ordering Information

Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 is available through Passport Advantage. The pricing structure of Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 implements IBM Value Units and is based on the number and type of processors that will be in the Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 environment. IBM Value Units provide a licensing methodology that reduces complex ordering structures to a single orderable item. Value Units are used to determine the license quantities, are product specific, and cannot be transferred to another product.

The required number of Value Units is determined by the type and number of processors in the Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 environment.

A processor is defined as any system or node executing all or any part of Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 (the Program). For example, two 4-way symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) systems, whether stand-alone systems or nodes in a larger system, are counted as eight processors.

To determine the quantity of Value Units you need to order:

  • Determine the number of each type of processor you will use in your Everyplace Server Enable V1.1 environment.
  • Multiply the number of Windows 2000 processors by 3,000.
  • Multiply the number of AIX/UNIX® processors by 6,000.
  • The total number of required Value Units for your environment is the sum of both of the Value Units required for both types of processors.

Value Unit Table for WebSphere™ Everyplace Server Enable V1.1

                                                  Value Units
Processor Type Per Processor

Windows 2000 processors 3,000

AIX or Sun Solaris processors 6,000

Examples

  • Using eight Windows 2000 processors and no AIX/Sun Solaris processors requires 24,000 Value Units. That is: 8 x 3,000 = 24,000.
  • Using eight AIX or Sun Solaris type processors and no Windows 2000 processors requires 48,000 Value Units. That is: 8 x 6,000 = 48,000.
  • Using four Windows 2000 processors and four AIX or Sun Solaris processors requires 36,000 Value Units. That is: 4 x 3,000 plus 4 x 6,000 = 36,000.

Contact your IBM representative or authorized IBM Business Partner if you need assistance in determining the appropriate number of Value Units required for your environment.

Passport Advantage

Orders are placed through the Lotus Ordering System for Passport Advantage. In addition to licensing, customers should order software subscription and support options.

Program-Unique Terms: The WebSphere Everyplace Server Enable (the "Program" or "WES Enable") consists of several components. Program components may be used only within the Program environment. In addition, any client function elements or code included with components of the Program may be used only in conjunction with such component of the Program, subject to any additional restrictions below. The Program is priced with "IBM Value Units," which are used to determine the required number of Program licenses, are Program specific, and cannot be transferred to another IBM product. The required number of Program licenses is based on the number of central processing units (CPUs) authorized to run the Program. The authorization to use the Program entitles you to install one copy of the Program components onto a single CPU. The Program components can be installed on different CPUs, so long as no component is installed on more than one CPU at any one time. If additional authorizations are needed, for example, to run the Program on additional CPUs, you must acquire additional licenses to the Program.

The Program may contain cryptography which is subject to special export licensing requirements of the U.S. Department of Commerce or other countries. Refer to the Program documentation or consult your IBM representative for details on the available level of encryption.

Some of the components of the Program are provided in source code form. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the IPLA ("Agreement"), Program Services are provided only for the unmodified, binary code versions of these components included in Program packaging, and not for the source code for these components or for any modifications of such components you may create. IBM is providing this source code on an "AS-IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND (EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED) INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND ANY WARRANTY OF NON-INFRINGEMENT.

In addition to the terms above, certain components of the Program have Program-unique terms which are identified below, and which apply to the referenced component of the Program.

For WebSphere Edge Server: This component of the Program includes Cyber Patrol software components provided by SurfControl. These components require lists generated by SurfControl to function properly. The Program includes a version of these lists; however, the lists included in the packaging for the Program will be outdated by the time you receive them and are provided by IBM on an "AS-IS" basis without program services and without warranty of any kind. The packaging for the Program may include a trial subscription to receive updated versions of these lists directly from SurfControl. Unless the packaging for the Program provides notice to the contrary, you must activate this trial subscription directly with SurfControl and obtain updated versions of the list directly from SurfControl. IBM does not provide any warranties or program services for lists obtained from SurfControl.

For MQSeries® Everyplace: Mobile device platform use authorizations (which are recorded on PoE documents) are licenses that are required to use the MQSeries Everyplace device program (other than for purposes of internal code development and testing) on certain client platforms.

These licenses do not entitle the user:

  1. To use the MQSeries Everyplace Bridge; or
  2. To run on certain server platforms, such as Microsoft™ Windows 2000 Server, specified in published lists available via the Web site listed below.

For further details, please refer to:

For WebSphere Transcoding Publisher: WebSphere Transcoding Publisher consists of, but is not limited to, a functional framework ("Framework"), transcoders, device profiles, development toolkit, documentation, and installation and administrative capability.

WebSphere Transcoding Publisher contains JavaBeans (each referred to below as "Components") that, subject to the Agreement, may be used by you in other products within your enterprise.

Notwithstanding any other terms in the Agreement, your license to use WebSphere Transcoding Publisher is conditioned on you not using WebSphere Transcoding Publisher to access, process, distribute or manipulate (collectively, "Filter") any materials unless you have the right ("Rights") to Filter such materials using WebSphere Transcoding Publisher because you (i) own the materials or (ii) have acquired sufficient rights to so Filter the materials. You also represent and warrant that if you do Filter any materials using WebSphere Transcoding Publisher, you have the Rights to so Filter the materials.

Transcoders created by you or another third party (each referred to below as "Your Transcoders") can also, subject to the Agreement, be used with the Framework. Subject to the Agreement and all terms and conditions in this section, IBM grants you the rights to reproduce Components and include the unmodified Components in your products ("Your Products").

Subject to the Agreement and all terms and conditions in this section, IBM grants you the rights to use Your Transcoders with the Framework.

IBM DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY WARRANTY FOR YOUR PRODUCTS OR YOUR TRANSCODERS. IBM'S WARRANTY OBLIGATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE COMPONENTS AND THE FRAMEWORK ARE LIMITED TO THOSE SET FORTH UNDER "LIMITED WARRANTY" IN THE AGREEMENT. YOU, AND NOT IBM, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVERALL RESULTS ACHIEVED BY YOUR PRODUCTS AND YOUR TRANSCODERS.

For WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition: WebSphere Application Server (WAS) consists of the following software components: Application Server, Admin Client, IBM HTTP Server, Distributed Debugger SecureWay® Directory, and DB2 Universal Database®.

ADMIN CLIENT, DISTRIBUTED DEBUGGER COMPONENTS: Notwithstanding anything in the Agreement to the contrary, you are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the Admin Client and Distributed Debugger components of WAS on any of your machines.

ADDITIONAL RESTRICTED USE COPIES: In addition to the rights and licenses granted to you under the Agreement, you may install and use additional copies of WAS under the terms and conditions of the license agreements installed with WAS in the "DEVLIC" directory. Among other things, these license agreements limit your use of such additional copies of WAS to use for internal evaluation and for the development, demonstration, and testing of applications which use WAS, and not for the deployment or execution of any such applications, which requires the acquisition of a full authorization to WAS.

THIRD PARTY CODE: WAS contains certain third party code which is provided to you under terms and conditions which are different from the Agreement, or which requires IBM to provide you with certain notices and/or information. IBM WILL IDENTIFY ANY SUCH THIRD PARTY CODE IN THE README FILE ASSOCIATED WITH WAS, OR IN A FILE OR FILES REFERENCED IN THE WAS README FILE AND SHALL INCLUDE ANY ASSOCIATED TERMS AND CONDITIONS, NOTICES AND OTHER RELATED INFORMATION THEREIN. IBM HTTP SERVER AND THE APACHE HTTP SERVER: The IBM HTTP Server component of WAS includes software developed by The Apache Group for use in the Apache HTTP Server project:

In addition, WAS is accompanied by source code for the Apache HTTP Server. The portions of the IBM HTTP Server which are based on software developed by The Apache Group and the source code for the Apache HTTP Server are Copyright (c) 1995-1999 The Apache Group. All rights reserved. Your use of the source code for the Apache HTTP Server accompanying the Program is subject to the terms and conditions of the license from The Apache Group, which is reproduced in the README file associated with WAS or in a file or files referenced by the WAS README file, and not the Agreement. In particular, IBM is providing the source code for the Apache HTTP Server on an "AS-IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND (EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED) INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND ANY WARRANTY OF NON-INFRINGEMENT. You may not disclose the results of any benchmark test of IBM HTTP Server to any third party without IBM's prior written approval.
