At a GlanceThis release of Tivoli® Business Systems Manager (BSM):
For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: LE001). OverviewTBSM, Tivoli's availability and performance flagship product, takes IT resource management to the next level, the business system level. A business system could potentially consist of multiple applications across multiple systems and networks spanning both host and distributed systems. TBSM allows users to quickly create business system views (enterprise application integration), using drag and drop technologies which, when combined with the auto-discovery features of Tivoli Ready/Tivoli Application Management products, means a quick deployment with a rapid return on investment. TBSM consolidates events from a wide range of Tivoli, IBM, and Independent System Vendors' (ISV) products into a context that accurately reflects the state of your business. With this business systems focus, actions can be prioritized based on their impact to your business. TBSM lets you take proactive action before outages impact your bottom line. For a detailed list of prerequisites, refer to the Software Requirements section of this announcement.
DescriptionTivoli Business Systems Manager is based on an open, flexible, object data store. This provides an open, extendable, and scalable solution capable of management support for the diverse environments customers have today. This new release of TBSM has the following enhancements. New Java GUI and Java Application Server for TBSM This support provides a new Java-based Application Server and GUI for TBSM, and extends the number of client platforms to those which support Java. This single console serves both Administrators and Operators. Subsystem Monitoring Updated/new third party monitoring support for MVS, CICS, DB2, and IMS as follows:
New Monitoring Capabilities
Storage Management
New Utilities New utilities that assist you when tracking product updates on Windows NT, and upgrading to TBSM 1.5. WebSphere This support monitors WebSphere OS/390. TBSM is used to manage the WebSphere environment. Adding this support to that for CICS, IMS, and DB2 provides a complete picture of the WebSphere environment plus the middleware it uses for application processing. This release will provide an object view of WebSphere/390. It covers objects which are created as MVS Address Spaces. Also, as TBSM provides a model more consistent with the Sysplex approach (rather than an individual system approach), this can be expanded to show WebSphere as a Sysplex application. Ability to Launch Products from the TBSM Java GUI Within Context This support allows you to launch a product from the TBSM Java GUI. Launch points are defined to allow launch directly into NetView's Management Console (NMC). Generic support is also included to allow other applications to be launched from the TBSM GUI. Improved Security This support enhances the security capabilities of TBSM. Rather than rely on the Windows registry, authentication is performed to validate logons and passwords. Users logon to the client specifying their domain-qualified Windows NT login and password. This information is encrypted and sent to the Application Server, which attempts to authenticate the user and return an indication of either a login failure (for example, expired password) or the user's authorization to the client. The new TBSM Java-based application server can be set up with Windows groups for TBSM operators and administrators. Users can then login to their groups and perform TBSM functions. TBSM continues to have the following capabilities:
GUI TBSM provides a Windows-based GUI. A drag-and-drop feature is offered, to define customized line-of-business tree views. Business impact and hyperbolic resource views are also supported. This new release will support the Tivoli Presentation Services-based client. Reporting can be done through a Web browser. Instrumentation TBSM supports numerous mechanisms for adding integration with third party software:
Contact your Tivoli/IBM representative for additional information. Data Model The TBSM data model is based on the strategic CIM-compliant data model. The database management system (DBMS) supported is Microsoft SQL Server, Release 7.0. Server Platform
Support is provided for Intel technology-based Windows NT and Windows
2000 operating systems.
Accessibility by People with DisabilitiesThe following features support use by people with disabilities:
Euro CurrencyThis program is not impacted by euro currency. Product PositioningTBSM provides an enterprise system management solution for monitoring and controlling system management events across a multidata center and multiplatform enterprise. TBSM is compatible and integrates with other Tivoli products to provide the ability to view systems management events, and assist the user in managing the OS/390 and distributed systems from any Windows NT or Windows 2000 operating systems in the enterprise. TBSM and its components are system management applications that integrate all S/390® and distributed platform management disciplines into a cohesive and extensible object model, and provides a single console for managing and viewing all resources. The user may choose to implement only an OS/390 solution, only a Distributed platform solution, or a OS/390 and distributed solution. Note: TBSM Version 1.5 will be the last release which supports the following:

Ordering InformationCurrent Licensees: Current licensees of TBSM, 5698-BSM, with support in effect will be sent instructions on obtaining the new release. New Licensees: Orders for new licenses will be accepted now. Shipment will begin on the planned availability date. Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the feature number of the desired distribution medium. Also, specify the one-time charge (OTC) feature number from the tables below in the quantity desired (maximum quantity of 250). The ordering information has been simplified so that only one set of Tivoli Management Points need be ordered for TBSM. The customer should compute the number of Tivoli Management Points by the TBSM component as specified in the Tivoli Management Points Requirement Table. Once the Total Management Points have been determined the customer only needs to order the total Tivoli Management Points needed for the TBSM base package. The quantity of Tivoli Management Points is based on MSUs and servers. Use the following table to order the program products listed below.

Tivoli Systems SupportAlthough the first year of support is included in the product price, a no-charge order must be placed using program number 5698-SPT specifying feature number 9001 for asset registration and the appropriate First Year Standard Support No Charge (NC) feature number. This 5698-SPT order establishes entitlement records worldwide. If a 5698-SPT order is not placed, the customer will not be entitled to support even during the first year of a license. Prior to the end of the first 12 months support period, customers will be notified of their support renewal options. Unless the customer notifies IBM/Tivoli to discontinue or alter the level of support currently being received, support will automatically be renewed for annual billing at the same level as selected in the first year. Once the subsequent year support feature numbers are in place, renewals are automatic and billed annually unless support is cancelled by the customer. Support Upgrade During the first year of a license, the customer may upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option by ordering the applicable OTC feature number from the table below. The OTC feature numbers may be specified on the initial order or later via an MES during the first year only. Ordering this OTC feature will not result in an extension of the no-charge support period.
In subsequent years, if a customer wants to upgrade to the Tivoli
Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option, an MES order must be entered
to discontinue the existing support option feature number and to add the
feature number for the desired options After an MES order is entered,
the support will be renewed and billed annually at that support level
unless support is cancelled by the customer.

However, Tivoli Management Points have been decreased for the Source 390 Object Monitor which now also includes Batch Object Monitor and the Storage Object Manager.
In addition, a new Object Manager for WebSphere has been added.
Additional Tivoli Management Points are required for the WebSphere Object
Manager.
Pricing Model ExampleThe following example illustrates how to use the points table to order the required number of points for the new base package order simplification in this announcement. New Customer Order for Tivoli Business System Manager An example of how Tivoli points work follows.
Step 1:
Determine the functions required.
For example, assume you have 100 distributed servers, and a 40 MSU S/390 server with both Source 390 and DB2 Object Monitors
Customer Environment Size
Program
Number T3 Svrs T2 Svrs S/390 MSUs
5698-BSM 20 8 40
Step 3: Multiply the Matrix from Step 1 by the Management Points Requirements Matrix to determine total number of points required.
Management Points Requirement Matrix
Program S/390
Number T1 Svrs T2 Svrs T3 Svrs PSLC Matrix
5698-BSM 55 110 1,100 Base = 5,200
Level A = 230
per MSU
Base = 564
Level A = 25
per MSU
Step 4: Acquire total number of Management Points required Distributed Servers
S/390 MSUs For Source 390 Object Monitor:
Total Points Required 23,229 The ordering of billable features has been simplified by removing the need to order by function. Prior to this announcement, a customer would have ordered Source 390 Object Monitor, 390 Batch Monitor, Storage Object Monitor, and DB2 Object Monitor separately. With this announcement, the customer only needs to order the base package billable feature with a quantity of 23,229 Tivoli Management Points. With 23,229 Management Points, the Tivoli Enterprise solution can be designed and implemented for optimal efficiency, without concern over changing cost due to changing implementation. As the environment managed changes and evolves, as long as the points required for that environment do not exceed the quantity licensed (23,229 in this example), the customer is in compliance.
