Contact your IBM representative or authorized IBM Business Partner to find out how IBM Mobile Connect can help you make the transition into the world of wireless computing while still supporting your traditional wired-connection activities. More information about wireless computing and wireless e-business is available on IBM's Pervasive Computing Division Web site at: Key PrerequisitesIBM Mobile Connect requires a network server that has a Pentium processor and is running either Windows NT 4.0, or higher, or Windows 2000. There should be 1,000 MB of free disk space for the server software plus approximately 4 MB of free disk space for each authorized user. Wireless devices that access the server require one of the following operating systems: Palm OS platform; Microsoft Pocket PC or Windows CE; or Symbian EPOC platform. Some remote devices require a TCP/IP local area network (LAN) connection.
Planned Availability Dates
DescriptionMobile devices have become an essential part of today's business. Synchronizing and exchanging information with corporate servers can be a preferred solution for enterprise IT organizations that are trying to manage information and applications on mobile devices. IBM Mobile Connect Version 2.5 provides synchronization that allows a flexible, reliable method of accessing information remotely or locally in a secure manner. It enables integration of multiple mobile devices into existing systems and central management of the information and applications on those devices. It also provides cryptographic capabilities that many enterprises require for security. IBM Mobile Connect allows IT managers to synchronize PIM data between corporate servers such as Lotus Domino or Microsoft Exchange, and mobile devices running Palm OS, Windows CE, or EPOC operating systems.
Advance filter settings allow users to customize the data that is
actually synchronized each time. For example, filters can be set to
limit the size of e-mails or specify how many days' worth of e-mail to
receive. Users can decide whether to download attachments or not, and
calendar filters can be set to retrieve calendar information for a
specific date period.
Euro CurrencyThis program is not impacted by euro currency. Product PositioningIBM Mobile Connect Version 2.5 replaces previous versions of IBM Mobile Connect, including Version 2.2 and Version 2.4.1. It provides all the functionality of Version 2.4.1, plus some enhancements. IBM Mobile Connect is intended for enterprises that want to allow users to access their network servers through wireless devices as well as continue to support local wired or cabled access. Mobile Connect is an excellent way for a company to begin integrating mobile devices into their business environment. It can help position a company to start a more extensive wireless computing and e-business environment, such as IBM WebSphere Everyplace Suite. The new ordering procedures allow customers to take advantage of the benefits provided by Passport Advantage. For information about Passport Advantage, go to: The new pricing structure provides a better value for user-based licensing. As the number of users increases, the cost per 100 user decreases. Licensing and pricing are based on the number of users (in increments of 100) and implement IBM Value Units. IBM Value Units provide a licensing methodology that reduces complex ordering structures to a single orderable item. Value Units are used to determine the license quantities, are product specific, and cannot be transferred to another product. Licensing is required for the total number of users in each Mobile Connect environment. Value Unit Table for IBM Mobile Connect

Contact your IBM representative or authorized IBM Business Partner if you need assistance in determining the appropriate number of Value Units required for your environment.
The following examples demonstrate the logic used to determine the
required number of Value Units.
ExampleAssume that you want to start using Mobile Connect with only a portion of your users, then, at a later date, add the rest of your users. You may do this with two transactions. Part 1 Initial Transaction: Assume you want to license only 1,234 of your users for the initial startup of using Mobile Connect.
How to Calculate Required Value Units Result
1. Round up the number of users to the 1,300
nearest 100 and identify the users
applicable Usage Level. (Level 1)
2. Divide the rounded-up number of 13 groups
users by 100 to determine the number of 100
of 100-user groups.
3. Refer to Usage Level 1 (the 312 Value
applicable level for this example) Units per
to determine the required number of 100 users
Value Units for each 100-user group.
4. Multiply the number of groups by the 13 x 312
number of Value Units required for = 4,056
each group.
5. Round up the result to the nearest 4,060
five Value Units.
6. Order the total number of required Order
Value Units. 4,060
Value Units
Part 2 Subsequent Transaction: At a later date, you are now ready to add the remainder of your users, bringing your total number of users to 12,552. You have previously acquired 4,060 Value Units in your initial transaction.
How to Calculate Required Value Units Result
1. Round up the total number of users 12,600
to the nearest 100 and identify the users
Usage Level. (Level 2)
2. Divide the number of users by 100. 126 groups
of 100
3. Identify the number of Value Units 246 Value
per 100 users in the Usage Level Units per
that contains the total number of 100 users
your users. (Level 2)
4. Multiply the total number of groups 126 x 246
of users by the Value Units in that = 30,996
one Usage Level.
5. Round up to the nearest five Value 31,000
Units.
6. Subtract the number of Value Units 31,000 -
acquired in your previous 4,060
transaction = 26,940
7. Order the number of Value Units Order
required for this transaction. 26,940
Value Units
More Examples
You always use the Usage Level that represents the total number of users at that time in your environment. Passport AdvantageNew licenses, software subscriptions, and support services are ordered through the Lotus Ordering System for Passport Advantage:
