PTX is designed to support the analysis of network, filesystem, memory,
and process activity on IBM AIX Fast Connect for POWER Version 3.1 delivers outstanding performance and attractive price for any number of Windows™ clients. Using Fast Connect, PCs can take advantage of the performance, scalability, and reliability of AIX. Multiple PC servers can be consolidated onto a single, scalable IBM pSeries or RS/6000, to reduce system complexity and simplify systems management. Fast Connect is internationalized, which includes messages in 26 languages supported by AIX and Unicode capability to support international characters in file and directory names and other character strings. With Fast Connect, AIX file and print services are available to Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT™, and Windows 2000 users as part of their Network Neighborhood with no additional software required. Windows clients can access AIX files using the Journaled File System (JFS), JSF2, CD File System (CDFS), Network File System (NFS) mounted subsystems, and DCE/DFS™ file systems, and AIX printing services using Microsoft's Common Internet File System (CIFS) and Server Message Block (SMB) protocols over TCP/IP. DescriptionAIX Performance Toolbox for POWER Version 3.0Performance Toolbox (PTX) is a comprehensive tool for monitoring and tuning system performance in distributed environments. In conjunction with the Performance AIDE, PTX provides the user the ability to concurrently visualize live performance on multiple systems. The AIDE also provides agents for creating 24 x 7 recordings of large sets of performance metrics, and for filtering data based on user-customized criteria. Filtering criteria can be used to generate events to a monitoring console or execute administration scripts. Additional utilities are provided to convert recorded data into formats suitable for import by third-party spreadsheets. By providing an umbrella for tools that can be used to analyze performance data and control system resources, PTX assists the system administrator in keeping track of available tools and in applying them in appropriate ways. This is done through a customizable menu interface. Tools can be added to menus, either with fixed parameters to match specific situations or in a dialog window. A new Java™-based analysis interface focuses on trend analysis of large sets of performance metrics. You can customize a variety of visualizations for Workload Management (WLM) activity, allowing class and resource usage to be compared across different time periods. Other enhancements simplify remote recording configurations and overall product scalability.

Software Subscription for AIXPriced upgrades for AIX Version 4.x to AIX 5L Version 5.1 are available with this announcement. However, it is IBM's intent to only provide future upgrades through either the Software Subscription for AIX (5692-SSO) offering currently available today or a similar subscription offering. In addition, IBM intends to enhance the future subscription offerings with enhancements including more streamlined order processing capabilities. Customers who purchased protection for Version 2 of Fast Connect for Windows or PTX, under Software Subscription for AIX (5692-SSO) or Software Protection Plan for AIX and UNIX® Operating System Base Software (5692-ADV), are entitled to receive Version 3 of these program products at no charge. Expedite shipments will be processed to receive 72-hour delivery from the time IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) receives the order. SDF will then ship the order via overnight air transportation. System Program Order (SPO) (5692-A5L): A 5692-A5L or 5692-AIX SPO is mandatory for shipments of program distribution and publications. The individual licensed program orders (for example, 5765-E74) are for registration and billing purposes only. No shipment occurs under these orders. To receive shipment of machine-readable materials on a CD-ROM requires an SPO (5692-A5L or 5692-AIX). Billing for the media type selected is generated under the SPO. To prevent additional billing expenses, place only one SPO order per machine. Select one of the following (5692-A5L or 5692-AIX) feature numbers for the licensed program hardcopy entitled publications, along with feature number 9001 for asset registration to be shipped on a given date.

For Authorized Assemblers, feature number 7305 must be specified under the individual licensed program 5765-E72 and the SPO 5692-A5L to facilitate preinstall of the licensed program on the system disk. In addition to feature number 7305 for preinstall of AIX under SPO (5692-A5L), you must select the appropriate "preinstall designation feature" from the following table.
