Key PrerequisitesThe products in this announcement will operate on any hardware and software configuration that supports the required version of DB2 or IMS.
Planned Availability DateRefer to the Description section for planned availability dates for each new product, version, or PTF. DescriptionSummaryTo further enhance the productivity of your DB2 and IMS database systems, new products, versions and PTFs are being made available in the following categories.
IBM Tools for Database AdministrationDB2 Administration Tool for OS/390, Version 2.1 PTFs provide the following enhancements to the product.
DB2 Log Archive Compression Tool for z/OS makes highly compressed off-site copies of DB2 logs allowing administrators to reduce the volume of archived logs resulting in:
Archive Log Compression uses high performance compression technology designed especially for DB2 logs to maximize the:
Administrators may elect to keep SQL UNDO entries in the log to be compressed and achieve very high compression rates. Or they may choose to have DB2 Archive Log Compression remove SQL UNDO (which is not needed for disaster recovery) in order to obtain even higher rates of compression. DB2 Automation Tool for z/OS helps you realize the full potential of your DB2 system by continuously and automatically coordinating the execution of specific DB2 utilities on an around-the-clock basis. The primary capabilities provided are:
Now, without relying on repeated manual interventions, every DB2 administrator is able to add maximum value to the enterprise by extracting full performance constantly from even the most heavily-used database environment. DB2 Log Analysis Tool for OS/390 PTFs add the following ease-of-use and reporting enhancements to this tool's existing capabilities for tracking and selectively reversing changes to DB2 data:
DB2 Object Comparison Tool for z/OS helps you keep your test and development system as a mirror image of the production system. New applications, application modifications, or mistakes can cause DB2 objects in one of these systems to have different attributes than on other systems. DB2 Object Comparison Tool allows you to compare objects (and dependent objects) from one source to another. Once a difference file is generated, the product can be used to generate the DB2 commands needed to bring the catalogs back into synchronization. Masking and ignore files are supported to account for intentional differences and/or naming conventions that exist between the two sets of objects to be compared. For example, primary/secondary quantities usually are different between a test and production system. Likewise, the same object might have an owner name of TESTxxx on the test system and an owner name of PRODxxx on the production system. Use of the mask and or ignore files allow you to compare only on real differences that might exist. "Version files" are used for comparison. A version file is created from either a file of DDL or from objects in a DB2 catalog. The "known-to-be-correct" source version file is compared to a target version file that may be back level. Using version files as a base you may compare DDL, catalog object definitions, and/or other version files in any pair-wise combination desired. The ability to do comparisons with previously generated version files gives you the opportunity to:
DB2 Object Comparison runs as an extension to DB2 Administration Tool for OS/390, Version 2.1 and consists of:
DB2 Table Editor for z/OS, Version 4.1 provides the widest choice and most robust features available in the industry for the entire range of enterprise table editing needs. DB2 Forms has been renamed DB2 Table Editor to better describe the major functions that it provides. As a result, this new version is DB2 Table Editor for z/OS, Version 4.1 rather than DB2 Forms for z/OS, Version 4.1. The major facilities provided are:
DB2 Table Editor for z/OS now allows you to edit tables directly from the DB2 Control Center using:
Windows and Java Users also have the following facilities:
IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS, Version 2.1 is a day-to-day IMS database environment management tool for Database Administrators, System Programmers, and Application Support Specialists. It allows these users to collect and build the data required to generate JCL for database backup/recovery/reorganization management using standard IMS utilities and IBM high performance IMS tools products. IMS Database Control Suite has been remodeled to:
The product supports:
IMS Database Repair Facility for OS/390 PTF extends support to IMS Fast Path Databases. IMS Database Repair Facility is a powerful tool that interactively repairs VSAM- and OSAM-organized IMS databases containing pointer or data errors. The product's interactive capabilities let you make the repair quickly, which means that the affected database needs to be taken off-line only for a brief period. IMS Database Repair Facility features both VSAM and OSAM pointer repair, pointer navigation, and a backout safety feature. Driven by an ISPF front-end, this tool is a powerful addition to any System Programmer or DBA workbench. IMS Fast Path Online Tools for z/OS, Version 2.1 are the perfect extension to the IMS Fast Path Basic Tools. This product includes:
The DEDB Online Pointer Checker functions as an online interface to the IMS Fast Path Tools DEDB Pointer Checker and DEDB Tuning Aid. It accesses the DEDB area dataset online using Fast Path utility services. The output of this utility is a set of sequential files which are input into DEDB Pointer Checker/Tuning Aid. Online Pointer Checker provides the following:
DEDB Online Data Extract provides IMS DEDB users with an easy-to-use, flexible tool to extract data from a DEDB area while the area is online. The product functions in read-only mode, and uses locking protocols to ensure a consistent view of the data. The specification of which segments to extract allows comparisons of data offset into a segment against supplied values. More than one comparison per segment type is supported and the ability to write a subset of the matching segment's data to the output file is supported. DEDB Online Data Extract uses standard IMS data access techniques ensuring it will function correctly with all DEDB facilities, including data sharing, MADS, VSO, Shared VSO, EQE, and IMS V7 EEQE support. DEDB Online Data Extract also can write output data in a format compatible with the IMS Fast Path Basic Tools Reload utility. This powerful utility can be used:
IMS Fast Path Online Tools Version 2 provides a new utility called Fast Path Online Area Extender. This new utility allows you to dynamically expand the size of a DEDB area online via expanding the SDEP portion OR the IOVF portion (if sdeps are NOT defined) of the DEDB area. This allows 24x7 availability of an IMS Fast Path DEDB area. IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for OS/390 PTF gives you the ability to set the following new thresholds:
The space monitor utility indicates over-threshold values on the Pointer
Checker reports. This is very useful information to database
administrators. Messages are issued when any thresholds values are
exceeded.
IBM Tools for Database Recovery and Replication ManagementDB2 Change Accumulation Tool for z/OS provides DB2 administrators with a powerful tool for backing up database objects in the most precise and least disruptive manner possible by:
IMS Image Copy Extensions for OS/390 PTF supports a One Step full function database HASH Check function. Only an ICE image copy step with the HASH check option is needed for the full-function database HASH Check. This means that the DBD analysis program step, Hash Evaluation program step, PSBLIB, DBDEFCTL data set, or PROCCTL data set are no longer required. One Step full function HASH Check can be invoked from the FABJMAIN program. It cannot be invoked from the IMS compatible JCL. However, full function HASH check JCL can still be used. In order to submit the One Step full function database HASH Check the following actions are required and restrictions apply.
IMS Online Recovery Service for z/OS , in a single pass of the input data, manages the accumulation and merging of recovery related database data for the recovery of:
Data sets, including image copy, change accumulation and logs are processed in parallel while multiple database data sets are updated simultaneously. IMS Online Recovery Service allows you to recover shared IMS databases directly from image copies and log data sets if change accumulation data sets are not available. In fact, IMS Online Recovery Service even uses incomplete change accumulation data sets for recovery if they are the latest copy available. In addition, a new timestamp recovery function provides recovery to any prior point in time, regardless of database allocation ranges.
IMS commands control IMS Online Recovery Service, and recovery can be
initiated through the IMS Automated Operator Interface.

Value
MSUs Units/MSU
Base 1-3 1.00
Tier A 4-45 .45
Tier B 46-175 .36
Tier C 176-315 .27
Tier D 316+ .20
The total number of Value units is calculated according to the following example: If the customer has installed 1000 MSUs the applicable Value Units would be: 3*1.00 + 42*0.45 + 130*0.36 + 140*0.27 + 685*0.20 = 244 Value Units When calculating the total number of Value Units the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer. Value Units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity of these Systems. This is applicable to all S/390 based Systems that are measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the IBM System/370, System/390 and IBM e(logo)server zSeries Machine Exhibit Z125-3901. Value Units for zSeries will be based upon full MSU capacity as defined in the Machine Exhibits
Value Units for non MSU-based S/390 Processors
MP3000 Models
H30 = 6.00 Value Units
H50 = 8.00 Value Units
H70 = 12.00 Value Units
P/390, R/390, IBM 3006 = 2.00 Value Units
There will be a tool available that provides support for transforming the MSU based capacities of S/390 Systems to new Value Units by calculating the applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs. The person preparing for an order is required to use this tool to calculate the number of Value Units, based upon the number of MSU (processor capacity). CFSW expects Value Units as configuration input.
