At a GlanceWith Version 7, DB2 UDB Server for OS/390 utilities provide:
For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: LE001). OverviewThe DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) Server for OS/390® and z/OS, Version 7 utilities programs deliver improved usability, availability, and performance for managing your DB2® for OS/390 databases. A basic set of core utilities has been included as part of DB2 since Version 1 was first delivered. These utilities initially provided a basic level of services to allow customers to manage data. Some customers have preferred to obtain such functions, however, from independent software vendors that have developed utility and tools offerings that offered additional performance, function, and features beyond that contained in the DB2 core utilities. With recent releases of DB2 for OS/390, in response to clear customer demand, IBM has invested in the improvement of these core utilities. With DB2 UDB Server for OS/390 and z/OS, Version 7, these utility functions have been separated from the base product and are now offered as the following individual products:
These new products augment the rich Database Tools functions previously announced. For an overview of the enhanced focus on database tools, refer to Software Announcement 200-307 , dated September 12, 2000. Key PrerequisitesThe products in this announcement will operate on any hardware configuration that supports DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS, Version 7. DescriptionImproved UsabilityAs customers grow their enterprise, they typically do so without an increase in IT staffing. As applications require new table space and indexes, the IT staff typically is required to include these in their scheduled maintenance jobs. In DB2 UDB for OS/390 and z/OS, Version 7 you can take advantage of object wildcarding to dynamically build lists of table space and indexes on which the utilities should execute. A key companion to this is the ability to dynamically allocate the work and output data sets required by each utility. The space can either be calculated by the utility or the user can override the space allocations. Many customers want to analyze their table space and index sizes over a period of time in order to predict future space growth and when utilities such as REORG or RUNSTATS might be needed. In Version 7, you can also keep historical data with the:
You don't have to change those hundreds of utilities you already have to
take advantage of this new option, it can be enabled with a system
parameter.
Improved Performance, Availability, and ScalabilityWith each release, DB2 for OS/390 delivers improvements for performance, availability, and scalability. In DB2 UDB for OS/390 and z/OS, Version 7 you can take advantage of a new utility, UNLOAD, which provides faster data unloading than was available with the DSNTIAUL program. In addition to the unload functions of REORG UNLOAD EXTERNAL, you can also unload data from an image copy, invoke row sampling, specify field selection, and ordering, as well as using parallelism when unloading multiple partitions. Online REORG is enhanced for data availability. Now, the time required to invoke a dataset rename has been eliminated. Instead you can specify a new keyword FASTSWITCH, which will leave the data set name unchanged, but update the catalog to reference the newly reorganized dataset. When hundreds of table spaces and index objects are involved, the time savings can become quite significant. Also, parallelism is added to the BUILD2 phase. This makes it possible to process logical partitions simultaneously and shorten the elapsed time required for this phase of the Online REORG. The LOAD utility is improved in three ways:
DB2 Operational UtilitiesThe IBM Database Administration Tools announced September 12, 2000, address common tasks required to service and support database operations. These tasks include unloading, reloading, reorganizing, copying, and catalog management. The performance of many of these are critical in meeting your company's availability commitments. These tools now include the separately ordered DB2 Operational Utilities product with the following functions:
DB2 Diagnostic and Recovery UtilitiesIBM Tools for Database Recovery and Replication announced September 12, 2000, address many customer requirements for additional backup and recovery needs that require special solutions. These additional needs may include:
For normal backup and recovery operations, the tools now include the separately ordered DB2 Diagnostic and Recovery Utilities product with the following functions:
DB2 Utilities SuitePurchase the set of DB2 utilities that best meets your DB2 management requirements. The DB2 Utilities Suite is a separately ordered product that includes all the functions provided by:
Utility Support for Your DB2 Catalog Data
DB2 UDB for OS/390 and z/OS, Version 7 delivers the DB2 Utilities
Suite in support of your catalog data. DB2 catalog data is critical for
all database reference and application design. To sustain the high
availability of DB2 for OS/390, this product is delivered with each
shipment of DB2 UDB for OS/390, Version 7. Use these powerful
management utilities for all of your DB2 catalog data management tasks.
Subscription & Support (S&S)Base support for these products is included as part of the one-time charge (OTC) for the product and is provided by the IBM Support Center. This support is subject to the terms of the IPLA contained in the program package. This base support includes resolution of defects in the IBM program. This support is provided via mail or fax and is available until the end-of-service date listed in this announcement. IBM is also providing S&S for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Support (IAAS). This offering:

Security, Auditability, and ControlThe announced programs use the security and auditability features of the host operating system software. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities. Ordering InformationThe products in this announcement have one charge unit value units. Translation from MSUs to Value Units
.-------+-------+---------------. | | MSUs |Value Units/MSU| |-------+-------+---------------| |Base | 1-3| 5.25 | |Tier A | 4-45| .83 | |Tier B | 46-175| .35 | |Tier C |176-315| .26 | |Tier D |316+ | .20 | '-------+-------+---------------' The total number of value units is calculated according to the following example: If the customer has installed 1,000 MSUs, the applicable value units would be:
270 Value Units When calculating the total number of value units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer. Value units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390-based systems measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the "IBM System/370, System/390® and zSeries Machine Exhibit" (Z125-3901.) Value units for zSeries will be based upon full MSU capacity as defined in the Machine Exhibits. Value units for non-MSU-based S/390 Processors:
There will be a tool available that provides support for transforming the MSU-based capacities of S/390 Systems to new value units by calculating the applicable number of value units for a given number of MSUs. The person preparing for an order is required to use this tool to calculate the number of value units, based upon the number of MSU (processor capacity). CFSW expects value units as configuration input. Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number and feature number 9001 for asset registration, the appropriate charge feature numbers and quantities, and the feature number of the desired distribution medium. New Customers: Specify the appropriate OTC feature numbers with the desired quantity represented by the sum of value units of all the machines the program is running on. Existing Customers: When adding additional capacity to a previous order, Value Units would be determined as an extension of the aggregate MSUs.
