Software Announcement 200-359 October 3, 2000 VM Performance Products Enhanced for z/ArchitectureAt a GlanceRTM Version 1 Release 5.3:
VMPRF Version 1 Release 2.2:
For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: LE001). OverviewVM performance-related products have been enhanced in support of the z/Architecture. Realtime Monitor VM/ESA® (RTM) will provide performance data for z/VM and VM Performance Reporting Facility (VMPRF) will be able to analyze new and changed monitor records in z/VM, including those produced as part of 64-bit architecture support. Now, these VM performance-related products that you have relied upon in the past have become even better. You can count on these products to help you:
RTM simplifies performance analysis and the installation management of VM environments while VMPRF uses system monitor data to analyze system performance and to detect and diagnose performance problems. Key PrerequisitesRefer to the Hardware Requirements and Software Requirements sections for details.
DescriptionRealtime Monitor VM/ESA (RTM) Version 1 Release 5.3RTM was designed as a real-time monitor and diagnostic tool for monitoring, analysis, and problem solving for z/VM Version 3 Release 1. It is recommended that RTM be used for installations of hardware and software to assist in validating the system components and establishing requirements for additional hardware or software. The following enhancements have been made to RTM Version 1 Release 5.3:
RTM Version 1 Release 5.3 will operate only on z/VM and will not run on any previous versions or releases of VM. Correspondingly, previous releases of RTM cannot monitor z/VM Version 3 Release 1 or later. National language support is not available for RTM. For additional information on RTM, refer to the VM Web site at: VM Performance Reporting Facility (VMPRF) Version 1 Release 2.2VMPRF provides performance management capabilities for VM systems and is a post-processor of VM Control Program (CP) monitor data. VMPRF provides a performance analysis tool for VM systems which can be used to detect and diagnose performance problems, analyze system performance, and provide printed reports that show the utilizations and response times of key system components. History files created by VMPRF can be used as input for performance analysis by VMPAF, Service Level Reporter (SLR 5665-397), or installation-written application programs. VMPRF is useful for systems analysts, systems programmers, and systems administrators; it simplifies the work of resource management in a VM system. The following enhancements have been made to VMPRF Version 1 Release 2.2:
National language support is not available for VMPRF. At the general availability of VMPRF Version 1 Release 2.2 on February 23, 2001, the previous release, VMPRF Version 1 Release 2.0 will be withdrawn from marketing. For additional information on VMPRF, refer to the VM Web site at: For additional information on z/VM Version 3 Release 1, refer to Software Announcement 200-358 , dated October 3, 2000, or refer to the VM Web site at: Year 2000
These products are Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with their
associated documentation, they are capable of correctly processing,
providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth
and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example,
hardware, software, and firmware) used with the products properly
exchange accurate date data with them.
Euro CurrencyThese programs are not impacted by euro currency. Product PositioningRTM and VMPRF can assist VM system programmers and performance analysts. RTM Version 1 Release 5.3 provides performance management capabilities for z/VM systems. It is a real-time systems monitoring aid that can help detect and diagnose performance problems and analyze performance. This program is useful to systems analysts, system programmers, and system operators. It simplifies the work of performance analysis and installation management in z/VM environments. It was designed for short-term monitoring, analysis, and problem solving. VMPRF Version 1 Release 2.2 processes control program (CP) monitor data to create performance reports which can be used to analyze and tune VM/ESA and z/VM systems. History files created by VMPRF can be used as input for performance analysis by VMPAF.
