Everyplace Suite integrates multiple components and programs that are functionally rich and based on proven technologies. It is designed so that the components are selectable during the installation and configuration process. This process is made easy through a menu of options and the automatic checking for prerequisites.

You can start pervasive e-business quickly by installing and using the features of Everyplace Suite that are required to meet your business objectives. You can grow quickly by adding new features and capabilities as necessary.

Everyplace Suite Functionality

Everyplace Suite provides for today's pervasive marketplace and supports future growth in six functional areas: wireless communication, content management, security, application integration, optimization and scalability, and systems management and provisioning.

  • Wireless communication lets mobile users access information and services across a variety of wireless or land line networks.

Everyplace Wireless Gateway is a distributed, scalable, multi-purpose communication platform that:

    • Supports optimized data access by WAP and non-WAP clients over a wide range of international wireless network technologies
    • Supports wire line local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN)
    • Includes software for encrypting data from WAP and non-WAP clients to gateways and from gateways to servers
    • Enables authentication of users
    • Integrates the WAP Version 1.2 standard support with IBM wireless technology to support standard Internet Protocols (IP) efficiently and securely over IP and non-IP wireless bearer networks

  • Content management extends applications to new classes of pervasive computing devices that have different characteristics (storage, screen size) and supports the intermittent nature of mobile device connectivity.
    • WebSphere Transcoding Publisher provides a standard set of transcoders for transforming and reformatting information to meet device, data, or user needs. It includes a developer toolkit for customizing existing transcoders and for creating new transcoders and new device profiles.
    • Everyplace Synchronization Manager includes conduits that provide direct synchronization between Palm OS or Windows™ CE devices and Lotus Notes® and Microsoft™ Exchange servers for e-mail, calendars, contacts, and tasks.
    • MQSeries® Everyplace server provides a reliable messaging infrastructure for connecting mobile clients with servers and enables applications to queue up data when network connections are not present.

  • Security software enables encrypted connections between pervasive devices and applications across mobile and land line networks.
    • Everyplace Authentication Server provides a single signon for users of all functions within the Everyplace Suite domain, and provides an authentication proxy that intercepts all the requests made to resources.

An optional transparent authentication proxy is included that provides access to content provided by third-party content servers in the Internet. It takes advantage of Everyplace Suite authentication and transcoding functions.

    • Everyplace Wireless Gateway encrypts data transmission across wireless and land line networks.

  • Application integration uses standard interfaces, including XML, ODBC and SMTP, to integrate with existing Web applications.

  • Optimization software provides functions such as load balancing and high availability. It can optimize data transmission across networks. This makes network usage more efficient and can improve related usage-based network charges.

WebSphere Edge Server manages Web transactions efficiently and helps solve the challenges of Web site response time, scalability, and availability.

    • Includes a robust caching proxy for scalability and performance improvements, and usability and capacity planning improvements
    • Provides a network dispatcher for load balancing
    • Enables improved scalability of availability of Web, FTP, or other TCP-based server clusters; also provides mutual high-availability backup

  • Management software provides application, software, and user management capabilities.
    • Tivoli® Personalized Services Manager (TPSM) provides the infrastructure to enroll, authenticate, and service subscribers. It offers subscriber functions such as personalization, self-managed setup, and a customizable portal page.

TPSM includes support for managing services for pervasive computing devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), cellular phones, palmtop computers, and other portable devices that connect to the Internet.

    • Everyplace Suite also uses a lightweight directory access (LDAP) server that supports a wide variety of protocols, schema, referrals, authentication mechanisms, and related specifications.

For WebSphere Application Server

WebSphere Application Server (WAS) consists of the following software components: Application Server, Admin Client, IBM HTTP Server and Distributed Debugger.

ADmin Client, Distributed Debugger Components: Notwithstanding anything in the Agreement to the contrary, you are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the Admin Client and Distributed Debugger components of WAS on any of your machines.

Additional Restricted Use Copies: In addition to the rights and licenses granted to you under the agreement, you may install and use additional copies of WAS under the terms and conditions of the license agreements installed with WAS in the "DEVLIC" directory. Among other things, these license agreements limit your use of such additional copies of WAS to use for internal evaluation and for the development, demonstration and testing of applications which use WAS, and not for the deployment or execution of any such applications, which requires the purchase of a full authorization to WAS.

Third Party Code: WAS contains certain third party code which is provided to you under terms and conditions which are different from the Agreement, or which requires IBM to provide you with certain notices and/or information. IBM WILL IDENTIFY ANY SUCH THIRD PARTY CODE IN THE "README" FILE ASSOCIATED WITH WAS, OR IN A FILE OR FILES REFERENCED IN THE WAS "README" FILE AND SHALL INCLUDE ANY ASSOCIATED TERMS AND CONDITIONS, NOTICES AND OTHER RELATED INFORMATION THEREIN. By using or not uninstalling such third party code after the initial installation of such third party code (thereby giving you access to all such terms and conditions, notices and information), you acknowledge and agree to all such terms and conditions, notices and information, including those provided only in the English language.

IBM HTTP Server and the Apache HTTP Server: The IBM HTTP Server component of WAS includes software developed by The Apache Group for use in the Apache HTTP Server project ( http://www.apache.org/ ). In addition, WAS is accompanied by source code for the Apache HTTP Server. The portions of the IBM HTTP Server which are based on software developed by The Apache Group and the source code for the Apache HTTP Server are Copyright (c) 1995-1999 The Apache Group. All rights reserved. Your use of the source code for the Apache HTTP Server accompanying the Program is subject to the terms and conditions of the license from The Apache Group, which is reproduced in the "ReadMe" file associated with WAS or in a file or files referenced by the WAS "ReadMe" file, and not the Agreement. In particular, IBM is providing the source code for the Apache HTTP Server on an "AS IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND (EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED) INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND ANY WARRANTY OF NON-INFRINGEMENT. You may not disclose the results of any benchmark test of IBM HTTP Server to any third party without IBM's prior written approval. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Agreement, you are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the IBM HTTP Server component of WAS on any of your machines, provided that only one such copy of IBM HTTP Server will be subject to the representations and warranties of the Agreement and will be eligible for Program Services.

For DB2 Universal Database®, Enterprise Edition

The Program includes portions of DB2 Universal Database. You are authorized to install and use these components only in association with your licensed use of the Program for the storage and management of data used or generated by the Program, and not for other data management purposes. For example, this license does not include inbound connections to the database from other applications for queries or report generation. You are authorized to install and use these components only with and on the same machine as the Program.
