IMS Advanced ACB Generator
IMS Advanced ACB Generator is a functional replacement for the
IMS-provided ACBGEN utility. It combines a number of features and
functions to help you manage your IMS ACB libraries more effectively in
addition to providing a high speed generation process. The high speed
characteristics become more significant when processing large volumes of
IMS ACBs. The more PSBs that are gen'ed, the greater the time reduction.
The Advanced ACB Generator reports information in a tabular format rather
than the prose format used by the IMS utility. The more PSBs and DBDs
generated, the more significant this method becomes. It lends itself to
quickly desk checking results and ensuring all PSBs and DBDs you expect
to process, have been processed. Consolidating what often is a massive
amount of output into a few easy to read and check pages can be a huge
productivity boost by itself.
IMS Database Repair Facility
IMS Database Repair Facility is a powerful tool to interactively repair
VSAM and OSAM organized IMS databases containing pointer or data errors.
The product's interactive capabilities let you make the repair in a short
time, which means that the affected database need be taken off-line only
for a brief period. IMS Database Repair Facility features both VSAM and
OSAM pointer repair, pointer navigation, and a backout safety feature.
Driven by an ISPF front-end, this tool is a powerful addition to any
System Programmer or DBA workbench.
IMS ETO Support
IMS ETO Support provides a front-end to the IMS Extended Terminal Option
(ETO) feature, providing capabilities to help manage, implement,
customize, and exploit the benefits of ETO in your systems environment.
The IMS ETO feature allows terminals, printers, and LTERMs to be added to
the system dynamically, reducing the need for IMSGENs, which can improve
IMS availability. IMS ETO Support provides features that allow for the
easy tailoring and customization of the IMS ETO feature to your specific
environment. Once implemented, ETO Support helps you manage those
resources in a more effective, dynamic way.
IMS Fast Path Basic Tools
IMS Fast Path Basic Tools can help you analyze, maintain, tune, and
migrate IMS Fast Path DEDB databases without bringing up an IMS online
system environment. This powerful package is the successor of the three
DEDB components of IMS Data Base Tools Version 2 Release 3
(DEDB Pointer Checker, DEDB Tuning Aid, and DEDB Unload/Reload) and
includes the following new features and functions.
Both DEDB Pointer Checker and DEDB Unload/Reload utilities now establish
a DBRC interface with which these utilities can distinguish multiple area
data sets and the concurrent usage environment of the DEDB area by IMS
online systems, and can allocate area data to one or more area data sets
dynamically. This new enhancement improves the integrity of an area
being processed, especially those processed by the DEDB Unload utility.
The DEDB Reload utility can now notify DBRC with the result of the reload
operation to change the status of the area in DBRC RECON data sets, just
like the IMS Fast Path DEDB Initialization utility.
In addition, DEDB Unload/Reload utilities support Sequential Dependent
(SDEP) segments. They also support a user exit by which segment data can
be manipulated. A new format of the unloaded segment record can be
optionally selected to reduce the volume of an unloaded segment data set.
The DEDB Unload/Reload component provides several new utilities that:
-
Produce a DEDB Data Base Definition Record from a DMB member in the ACB
library without rerunning the DEDB Unload utility when the data set is
lost.
-
Provide application interfaces to produce or retrieve unloaded segment
records. With the interfaces, the application program need not care
about the format of the record, or I/O operation of the data set.
-
Convert DEDB unloaded segment records to HDAM ones and vice versa.
In summary, the IMS Fast Path Basic Tools package provides DEDB
Unload/Reload, Tuning Aid, and Pointer Checker utilities that have been
enhanced to provide:
-
DEDB Pointer Checker
-
MADS support using DBRC RECON information
-
Area data set dynamic allocation
-
DEDB Pointer Checker
-
DEDB Unload/ Reload
-
MADS support using DBRC RECON information
-
SDEP segment support
-
Area data set dynamic allocation
-
Improved format of DEDB unloaded segment record
-
User exit
-
Application interface to produce or retrieve unloaded segment records
-
The ability to convert DEDB unloaded segment records to HDAM database
segment records and vice versa
-
Randomizing module interface supporting up to 16 different DEDB databases
IMS Fast Path Online Tools
IMS Fast Path Online Tools are the perfect extension to the IMS Fast Path
Basic Tools. This new product contains:
-
DEDB Online Pointer Checker
-
DEDB Online Data Extract
The DEDB Online Pointer Checker functions as an online interface to the
IMS Fast Path Tools DEDB Pointer Checker and DEDB Tuning Aid. It will
access the DEDB area dataset online using Fast Path utility services.
The output of this utility will be a set of sequential files which are
input into DEDB Pointer Checker/Tuning Aid. Online Pointer Checker
provides the following:
-
A summary report of pointer errors found
-
An option to produce a snap listing of CIs found to be in error
-
An option to take an Image Copy during execution, which will be similar
to the IMS Concurrent Image copy
-
DBRC notification of the image copy
-
Dual Image Copy output datasets
DEDB Online Data Extract provides IMS DEDB users with an easy-to-use,
flexible tool to extract data from a DEDB area, while the area is online.
The product functions in read-only mode, and uses locking protocols to
ensure a consistent view of the data.
The specification of which segments to extract will allow comparisons of
data offset into a segment against supplied values; more than one
comparison per segment type is supported and the ability to write a
subset of the matching segment's data to the output file is supported.
DEDB Online Data Extract uses standard IMS data access techniques which
ensure it will function correctly with all DEDB facilities, including
datasharing, MADS, VSO, Shared VSO, EQE, and IMS V7 EEQE support. DEDB
Online Data Extract can optionally write output data in a format
compatible with the IMS Fast Path Basic Tools Reload utility.
This powerful utility can be used:
-
To satisfy data reporting requirements
-
To extract data to populate test databases
-
As an alternative to writing a customized BMP application program
IMS Hardware Data Compression Extended
IMS Hardware Data Compression Extended exploits OS/390 hardware data
compression (HDC) and can help you take advantage of this feature to
compress HDAM, HIDAM, HISAM, and Fast Path databases.
IMS HDC Compression Extended functions can help you:
-
Analyze what compression savings are possible before creating a
dictionary
-
Determine what compression savings the generic dictionary supplied with
the product could provide
-
Determine what compression savings an existing custom dictionary could
provide if used on a database other than the one from which it was
created
-
Evaluate compression savings by segment and understand the distribution
of compressed segment lengths (to help you prepare a DBD for reloading a
database and minimizing VSAM control interval [CI] splits)
-
Create a dictionary and a compression exit routine, and reload DBD in
preparation for implementing data compression
IMS High Performance Load
IMS High Performance Load consists of the following two utilities to
support high performance reorganization reload procedures of IMS HD
organized databases:
-
High Performance Load
-
Physical Sequence Sort for Reload
These two utilities support reorganization reloading of IMS HD
organization databases including not only HDAM and HIDAM, but also PHDAM
and PHIDAM introduced by IMS Version 7.
IMS Version 7 support including HALDB includes functions providing:
-
Reloading of PHDAM and PHIDAM databases

determine the best value
IMS High Performance Load provides parameter optimization for high
performance processing and ease of use.
IMS High Performance Pointer Checker
IMS High Performance Pointer Checker is a must for most database
reorganization activities. Used on a regular basis, it can help you
ensure your database pointers are error free and alert you to the need to
perform a database reorganization. The utility also provides information
to assist in the analysis of a corrupt database, thereby helping to
reduce the diagnostic and repair time spent by programmers analyzing the
problem. Used in conjunction with the IMS Database Repair Facility, this
is a powerful set of productivity aids for any IMS operation.
IMS High Performance Pointer Checker reports space utilization, and
detects and reports physical and logical direct pointer problems in HDAM,
HIDAM, HISAM, HIDAM index, and secondary index databases. These reports
pinpoint both the errors and their locations within the database. Also
generated are a number of reports useful for tuning. In summary, IMS
High Performance Pointer Checker:
-
Can help detect database pointer errors.
-
Reports location and type of error.
-
Provides reports and block dumps to aid in analysis.
-
Provides database statistics.

Database Historical Data Analyzer
Note:
New function eliminating PSB generation requirement is not supported in
the IMS Version 5 environment.
IMS High Performance Prefix Resolution
IMS High Performance Prefix Resolution performs the same function as the
IMS Prefix Resolution utility (DFSURG10). Prefix resolution is a
required step for resolving pointers for databases containing logical
relationships and for creating or recreating secondary indices. Elapsed
time is considerably shorter for IMS High Performance Prefix Resolution
since this utility utilizes IBM BatchPipes® to eliminate the
intermediate Work File 2 (WF2) data set. This feature helps avoid much
of the I/O, tape handling, and DASD requirements often associated with
prefix resolution.
IMS High Performance Unload
IMS High Performance Unload provides high performance unloading function
for IMS HD databases including PHDAM and PHIDAM introduced by IMS
Version 7. High Performance Unload is a follow-on product of IMS
System Utilities/Data Base Tools (DBT) Version 2 High Speed
Sequential Retrieval (HSSR) and provides the full compatibility with JCL
written for DBT Version 2 HSSR.
High Performance Unload offers the following features and more:
-
Support of HALDB of IMS Version 7, which includes:
-
Unloading of a partition, a sequence of partitions, or the whole
partitions of a PHDAM or PHIDAM database
-
Support of DBRC
-
Dynamic allocation of partition data sets using data set information in
the DBRC RECON data sets

IMS Index Builder Version 2 provides full support for IMS
Version 7 High Availability Database (HALDB) and provides DBRC
support. If you have indexes, you can benefit from this robust product.
IMS Library Management Utilities
IMS Library Management Utilities help manage IMS ACB, PSB, and DBD
libraries. The utilities included are:
-
DBD/PSB/ACB Compare
This utility reports the differences between DBDs, PSBs, or ACBs having
the same name, but residing in separate libraries. It can be used to
ensure that DBDs, PSBs, or ACBs that have the same name are defined by
the same generation macro statements.
-
DBD/PSB/ACB Mapper
This utility produces pictorial layouts of IMS physical and logical
databases. These maps, which are produced as a printed listing,
graphically represent the structure and characteristics of IMS.
-
DBD/PSB/ACB Reversal
This utility converts the DBD/PSB control blocks back into IMS
DBDGEN/PSBGEN utility control statements. Optionally, this utility can
produce the needed SYSIN statements for the DBD/PSB/ACB Mapper. A number
of reports are also generated describing member information such as
DBD/PSB organization, processing options, and the relationship among its
members.
The utilities in this product are supported for IMS Versions 5, 6, and 7.
IMS Sequential Randomizer Generator
IMS Sequential Randomizer Generator creates a randomizer that enables the
user to access HDAM and DEDB database segments either directly or
sequentially. Using this technique, HDAM and DEDB databases can be
accessed in logical key sequence without sacrificing their efficient
direct access capabilities.
IMS Sequential Randomizer Generator also optimizes the distribution of
database records by adjusting the randomizing module if the number of
synonyms or the control interval (CI)/block utilization exceeds the
user-specified value. This product can help you make better, more
effective use of your HDAM and DEDB databases.
