For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: LE001). OverviewNormal backup and recovery operations are handled by the image copy and recovery tools you choose. However, many customers have additional backup and recovery needs that require special solutions. These additional needs may include:
To help you with these special requirements, IBM introduces the following seven new and/or repositioned products:
Key PrerequisitesThe IMS products in this announcement will operate on any S/390® hardware configuration that supports the required version of IMS. For a list of the required versions of IMS, refer to the Hardware Requirements section. The DB2 products in this announcement will operate on any hardware configuration that supports DB2 Version 5 or later.
Planned Availability Dates
DescriptionSeven Programs Supporting Recovery and ReplicationIBM DB2 DataPropagator for OS/390® Version 7 provides a key replication solution for data warehousing and other distributed database environments. Use it for highly efficient maintenance of consistent copies of relational data in the DB2 family of databases, automatically capturing and applying data changes. It can help you leverage your data assets for decision making by enabling sophisticated data transformation. New with this version is support of unicode and ASCII encoding schemes, which minimizes the need for data conversion in the replication environments. IBM DB2 Recovery Manager for OS/390 simplifies and coordinates the recovery of both DB2 and IMS data to a common point, cutting the time and cost of data recovery and availability. It eliminates the error-prone complexity of managing different logs, utilities, and processes to do recovery from both databases. IBM DB2 Row Archive Manager for OS/390 (DB2 RAM) can save storage, improve performance, and reduce the overall costs of your DB2 environment. DB2 RAM provides a simple method to control the separation of aged data from your active DB2 data. You can use DB2 RAM to move seldom used data to a less costly storage medium. IBM IMS Data Base Integrity Control Facility (DBICF) for OS/390 Version 7 provides a complete interface to the IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC) facility. The easy-to-use ISPF panels make an expert out of the novice DBRC user. DBICF features include:
DBICF is a powerful tool that not only simplifies dealing with DBRC, but provides many operational benefits. IBM IMS DEDB Fast Recovery for OS/390 Version 2 assists technical support personnel in the operation and maintenance of data integrity of IMS databases. It is designed as a fast alternative to emergency restart (ERE) failure recovery.
IBM IMS Image Copy Extensions for OS/390 reduces:
Major functions are:
IBM IMS Recovery Saver for OS/390 Version 2 prepares a set of IMS logs and a copy of the IMS RECON data sets to allow IMS full function databases to be recovered to any time stamp in an IMS data sharing or non-data sharing environment. The use of IMS Recovery Saver will:
Subscription and SupportBase support for these products is included as part of the one-time charge (OTC) for the product and is provided by the IBM Support Center. This support is subject to the terms of the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) contained in the program package. This base support includes resolution of defects in the IBM program. This support is provided via mail or fax and is available until the end of service date listed in this announcement. IBM is also providing enhanced subscription and support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Support (IAAS). This offering:
New License Agreement for Selected S/390 Software
IBM is announcing selected S/390 software products with revised
provisions. These products are licensed under the IBM Program License
Agreement (IPLA), and support is provided under the Agreement for
Acquisition of Support and its Addendum (Z125-6336). These programs have
a one-time license charge for use of the program and an ongoing recurring
charge for enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice
support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to
updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in
effect. SupportLine is an option for those customers who desire added
services.
Year 2000
These products are Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with their
associated documentation, they are capable of correctly processing,
providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth
and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example,
hardware, software, and firmware) used with the products properly
exchange accurate date data with them.
Euro CurrencyThese programs are not impacted by euro currency.
