Year 2000This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it. Product PositioningThe DB2 Server for VSE & VM program is the DB2 Family member that provides relational database support for the VSE/ESA and VM/ESA operating system environments. It is the basis for a robust e-business environment, because of its reliability, scalability, manageability, and interoperability with e-business platform applications, through DB2 Connect and WebSphere. Positioning the QMF family is best summarized by the phrase "Business Intelligence (BI) Starts Here." Easy to use and fast to implement, query and reporting tools remain important to DB2 customers for operational and data warehouse query and reporting. By offering fast query performance, browser-based querying, extensive governing control over user actions, and DB2 resource consumption, QMF and/or QMF for Windows is a natural selection over and above other query and reporting tools. DB2 Server for VSE & VM, Version 7 Release 1 will support all DASD devices supported by the operating systems through VSAM data management facilities (in VSE/ESA) or by VM DASD Block I/O Facilities (in VM/ESA). DB2 Server for VM takes advantage of DFSMS/VM® in the VM/ESA environment. The DB2 Data Spaces Support option will support all current DASD devices supported by the VM/ESA Paging Subsystem. DB2 Server for VSE & VM, Version 7 Release 1 will support, through VSE/ESA or VM/ESA, tape-handling devices supported by those operating systems. ISQL will support 3270-compatible terminals. The DBS Utility supports a terminal interface through ICCF and CMS. In a VM/ESA environment, results from ISQL, the interactive facility for DB2 Server for VM, may be printed on any system printer supported by VM/ESA, or any remote printer through the RSCS Networking supported by the operating system. In a VSE environment, ISQL results may be printed on any system-supported printer using VSE/POWER supported by the VSE/ESA operating systems. Any IBM 3270 Information Display System terminal printer supported by the Basic Mapping Support facility of CICS/VSE® or Transaction Server can print the ISQL results. QMF requires a display station supported by GDDM®. QMF for Windows hardware requirements are those required to run the Windows software, as described in the next section. QMF for Windows host hardware requirements are those required to run DB2 Server for VSE & VM. Software RequirementsIn the VM/ESA environment, the DB2 Server for VM program product and its features work with the following IBM licensed programs:
Control Center for VM, Version 7 Release 1 is required if you want to invoke the Reorganize Index and Rebind Package functions of DB2 UDB Control Center Version 7 Release 1 on a DB2 Server for VM server. The following lists the additional program products with the minimum release levels required to support QMF for VM, Version 7:
The following lists the program products with the minimum release levels required to support optional functions for QMF for VM, Version 7:
In the VSE/ESA environment, the DB2 Server for VSE program product and its features work with the following IBM licensed programs:
Optional:
The DB2 Server for VSE & VM licensed program will work with these products, and subsequent releases and modification levels, unless otherwise stated. Any level of COBOL, PL/I, C, or Assembler current with the operating system can be used. The level of FORTRAN required is one supported by the VS FORTRAN compiler with the LANGLVL (77) option specified or defaulted. Control Center for VSE, Version 7 Release 1 is required if you want to invoke the Reorganize Index and Rebind Package functions of DB2 UDB Control Center Version 7 Release 1 on a DB2 Server for VSE server. The Control Center feature for VSE requires a run-time library for the IBM DOS/VS COBOL Release 3 Version 1 (5746-CB1), or later. The following lists the additional program products with the minimum release levels required to support QMF for VSE/ESA, Version 7:
The following lists the program products with the minimum release levels required to support optional functions for QMF for VSE/ESA, Version 7:
The host software requirements for QMF for Windows are those required to run DB2 Server for VSE & VM. Note: A single license of QMF for Windows feature of DB2 Server for VSE & VM allows access to an unlimited number of host and workstation databases, and provides for an unlimited number of clients. QMF for Windows, Version 7 Release 1 runs on 32-bit operating systems as follows:
QMF for Windows can connect to DB2 UDB for OS/390®, Version 5, or later, via native TCP/IP, or to the SNA environments of that or other DB2 versions. QMF for Windows CLI connectivity allows access to DB2 Personal Edition and requires the DB2 UDB Version 5.2 client. When connecting via CLI, you cannot run a DB2 stored procedure that returns multiple result sets, or bind static SQL. For SNA connectivity, QMF for Windows requires an SNA/CPI-C product on each Windows client. These products are the interface between QMF for Windows and the APPC verb set used by the SNA environment to manage server/requester relationships. For TCP/IP connectivity, QMF for Windows must be able to establish a TCP connection from the Windows workstation to the remote host and remote port (the port on which DB2 is listening). This can be established with many 32-bit Winsock products, including those provided with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. QMF for Windows requires a Winsock 1.1 interface to the installed TCP protocol stack. Compatibility: DB2 Server for VSE & VM, Version 7.1 is upwardly compatible with DB2 Server for VSE & VM, Version 6.1. User Group Requirements: This announcement satisfies or partially satisfies twelve requirements from one or more of the worldwide user group communities. Groups include Australasian SHARE/GUIDE (ASG), COMMON, COMMON Europe, GUIDE International, G.U.I.D.E.
