Tivoli® Data Exchange is a software solution that enables aggregation and distribution of business-critical information — of varied content — across all major computer platforms and network protocols. It enables organizations to rapidly, securely, and seamlessly exchange information, both within the enterprise and with business partners. It is easy to implement and provides reliable information delivery.

Description

Tivoli Data Exchange offers:

  • Easy Integration
    • Automates the exchange of information between dissimilar systems through the use of value-added portals. A partial list of available portals includes: Transaction Processing Facility (TPF), 4690, AS/400® Physical File System, and MQSeries Integrator.
    • Delivers a variety of published formats, including MQSeries messages, to create an extensive status reporting subsystem that can be easily integrated with other software systems and management tools.
    • Utilizes native target or source platform scheduling tools to optimize transfer initiation requests resulting in more efficient use of idle resource time.
    • Adapts easily to support a wide variety of data encryption and authentication tools.
    • Easily integrates into existing systems and applications by using optional interfaces including command line, API, Interactive Structured Programming Facility (ISPF) panels, and a Java™-based GUI.

    • Handles information dissemination needs of distributed enterprises efficiently and reliably.

    • Leverages a unique modular component design that configures the number of active components for each machine to optimize usage.
    • Optimizes resources by allowing users to choose between existing MQSeries channels and queues between machines or private channels, depending upon resource constraints.
    • Allows single or multiple files to transparently span multiple queues.
    • Load balances channels dynamically by taking advantage of multi-channel transfer mode in conjunction with the High Performance File Transfer (HPFT) settings.
  • Reliability and Integrity
    • Helps ensure the delivery of critical data by using either persistent messaging or by using embedded, automated, end-to-end recovery when using non-persistent messaging or non-protected channels.
    • Utilizes checkpoint restart technology to automatically recover from network or system failures, thus eliminating the need to retransmit/reprocess the entire file. This saves time as well as system and network resources.
    • Provides extensive audit trails for all activities for each host participating in the transfer of information. This allows administrators to perform diagnostics and root-cause analysis on anomalies that may arise while distributing information.

Supported File Types

Tivoli Data Exchange supports the following MVS™ and OS/390 file types:

  • Partitioned data set extended (PDSE)
  • Entry sequenced data set (ESDS) (VSAM)
  • Key sequenced data set (KSDS) (VSAM)
  • Queued sequential access method (QSAM) (physical sequential file stored on DASD (disk), labeled and unlabeled tape)
  • Sequential access method (SAM) (physical sequential file stored on labeled and unlabeled tape)
  • Basic partitioned access method (BPAM)
  • Basic sequential access method (BSAM)

Tivoli Data Exchange supports the file system on the other platforms.

Year 2000

This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it.

Euro Currency

This program is not impacted by euro currency.

Tivoli Data Exchange is a new Tivoli bulk data transfer product. Potential users for Tivoli Data Exchange include:

Support Protocols

Tivoli Data Exchange operates using protocols supported by IBM MQSeries®, such as SNA, TCP/IP.

Tivoli Data Exchange requires the appropriate IBM MQSeries product or Tivoli Data Message Manager. For 4690 support, you must have MQSeries Client for IBM 4690 OS from CommerceQuest. You may contact CommerceQuest at:

Tivoli Data Message Manager (5698-TMM) is required for any system that does not have the appropriate MQSeries product installed.

For example, if IBM MQSeries for OS/390 (5655-A95) is installed on the OS/390 System, then Tivoli Data Message Manager is not required. The same is true for all the other platforms when the appropriate MQSeries product is installed.

Planning Information

Packaging: Tivoli Data Exchange (5698-TDE) is available on 4-mm tape or 3480 tape cartridge. In addition, a CD-ROM (LK3T-5082) is shipped with the tape media. This CD-ROM also contains soft copy publications.

In addition, an International Program License Agreement (IPLA) License Information Document (LC23-4470), a Program Directory (GI11-0768), and an IPLA Pamphlet (Z125-3301) are also shipped with program package.

Tivoli Data Message Manager (5698-TMM), for the OS/390 platform is available on 4-mm tape or 3480 tape cartridge. In addition, a CD-ROM is shipped with the tape media. This CD-ROM also contains softcopy publications.

Tivoli Data Message Manager is also available for AS/400®, HP-UX, AIX, Sun Solaris, OS/2, and Windows NT. CD-ROMs for each of these platforms will be shipped when the CD-ROM media feature is ordered. CD-ROMs with publications are also shipped with the program packages.

Security, Auditability, and Control

The announced programs use the security and auditability features of the operating system software.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Ordering Information

Charges are for applicable quantities based on Tivoli Management Points.

Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the feature number of the desired distribution medium. Also, specify the one-time charge (OTC) feature number from the tables below in the quantity desired (maximum quantity of 250).

Tivoli Systems Support

Although the first year of support is included in the product price, a No-Charge order must be placed using program number 5698-SPT specifying: feature number 9001 for asset registration and the appropriate First-Year Tivoli Standard Support No-Charge feature number. This 5698-SPT order establishes entitlement records worldwide. If a 5698-SPT order is not placed, the customer will not be entitled to support even during this first year of the license.

Prior to the end of the first 12 months' support period, customers will be notified of their support renewal options. Unless the customer notifies IBM/Tivoli to discontinue or alter the level of support currently being received, support will automatically be renewed for annual billing at the same level as selected in the first year. Once the subsequent-year support feature numbers are in place, renewals are automatic and billed annually unless support is cancelled by the customer.

    • Software product updates that are improvements, extensions, or other changes which IBM/Tivoli, at its discretion, deems to be reasonable

    This offering provides:

Support Upgrade

During the first year of a license, the customer may upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option by ordering the applicable OTC feature number from the table below. The OTC feature numbers may be specified on the initial order or later via an MES during the first year only. Ordering this OTC feature will not result in an extension of the no-charge support period.

In subsequent years, if a customer wants to upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option, an MES order must be entered to discontinue the existing support option feature number and to add the feature number for the desired options After an MES order is entered, the support will be renewed and billed annually at that support level unless support is cancelled by the customer.
