Software Announcement 200-245 July 25, 2000 Tivoli Storage Management Products Introduce New Storage Area Network Exploitation Features and Value-Based PricingAt a GlanceTivoli® introduces Value-Based Pricing model for the Tivoli Storage Management product set that provides:
Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.1 enhancements include:
The function for the VM/ESA® and AS/400® platforms remains unchanged. For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: YE001). OverviewToday's extraordinary pace of change in business and technology makes it harder than ever to manage infrastructure costs and plan for the future. All too often, traditional IT management software pricing compounds this problem by imposing added costs on platform shifts and other initiatives essential to your strategic arsenal as you work to keep your organization competitive. The Tivoli Storage Management product set, including the UNIX®, Windows NT, Windows 2000, OS/390®, MVS, VM, and AS/400 platforms, is introducing a new pricing model to help you deal with these issues. Called Tivoli Value-Based Pricing, it delivers better alignment between technology management costs and the value actually delivered to your organization. Using Tivoli Storage Manager enables you to exploit the SAN technology and reduce reliance on the server and LAN. Two new optional features are offered:
In addition, new support is being added to the Tivoli Storage Management products:
Planned Availability DatesJuly 28, 2000: Tivoli Storage Management products except the following:
DescriptionTivoli Management PointsThe intent of Tivoli Management Points is to provide investment protection as computing environments and management needs evolve. With this approach, all metrics for a given product are reflected in terms of points required. Therefore, licensing is in terms of total points per product required to manage a given environment. As the environment changes, points can be redeployed as necessary, as long as the total number of points required for that environment and product do not exceed the total authorized. For more information on Tivoli Value-Based Pricing, refer to Software Announcement 200-017 , dated February 15, 2000. For more information on Tivoli Value-Based Pricing for OS/390, refer to Software Announcement 200-100 , dated April 25, 2000. Points are product specific and cannot be moved from one product to another. For Tivoli Storage Manager, the Tivoli Management Points for the features under 5698-TSM are transferable to other features under 5698-TSM only. Environment-Managed Model The environment-managed model is used to describe the new Tivoli price offering that separates licensing from architecture. In an environment-managed model, the price is based on what is managed rather than the more traditional approach of pricing based on the number and type of product component. Server A server is a computer system that provides services to one or more clients, or other devices over a network. Examples include, but are not limited to, file servers, print servers, mail servers, database servers, application servers, and Web servers. A server is defined by its use in the customer's environment, not by its use in a Tivoli application. Tivoli servers are tiered as defined in the Tivoli Server Tier Exhibit. For distributed servers in a clustered environment, points requirements are based on the size of each server in the cluster, tiered as defined in the Tivoli Server Tier Exhibit. Distributed server tiers are defined by the machine, not operating system, based on installed processors. For IBM RS/6000® Scalable POWER Parallel Systems (RS/6000 SP), Sun Ultra Systems and similar systems, the licensing is based on the number of processors in the frame, not per individual node or card. For clustered environments, the licensing is determined by the number of installed processors in each server in the cluster. Tivoli Server Tier Exhibit For a distributed server component, the specific tier definitions are:
.-------------------+---------------------------------------. | Server | 32-bit Intel (or compatible) systems | | Tier 1 | with 4 or fewer processors | | | installed | |-------------------+---------------------------------------| | Server | RISC systems with fewer than 24 | | Tier 2 | processors installed (except as | | | spelled out in Tier 3) | | |---------------------------------------| | | Intel (or compatible) 64-bit systems | | | with less than 24 processors installed| | |---------------------------------------| | | Intel (or compatible) 32-bit systems | | | with 5-23 processors installed | | |---------------------------------------| | | AS/400 servers | |-------------------+---------------------------------------| | Server | Any distributed system with 24 | | Tier 3 | or more processors installed | | |---------------------------------------| | | All HP V-Class Systems classes of | | | servers with 14 plus | | | processors installed | '-------------------+---------------------------------------' Client A client is a computer system or process that requests a service of another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple clients may share access to a common server. A client has some processing capability, or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include laptop computers, desktop computers, and desk-side computers. Managed Library A Managed Library is one of a selection of tape libraries that is included in the Advanced Managed Library category for non-S/390® systems and is attached to one Tivoli Storage Manager server or shared by multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers. A list of Advanced Managed Libraries may be found at the Tivoli Web site at: Management Services Unit With this announcement, Tivoli Storage Management Product set is added to the Tivoli Management Points licensing based on S/390 MSUs. An MSU is defined as Millions of CPU Service Units per hour; the measure of capacity used to describe the computing power of the hardware processors on which S/390 software runs. Processor MSU values are determined by the hardware vendor, IBM, or Software Compatible Vendors (SCVs). The Tivoli Storage Management products use the MSU metric for calculating Tivoli Management Points, based on the MSU values of the S/390 where the Tivoli Storage Management products are installed/used. For the Tivoli Storage Management products' S/390 MSU calculations, the total number of MSUs for each product is determined by the MSU values of the S/390 where the Tivoli Storage Management products are installed/used. Therefore, add up all MSUs for each S/390, where the product is installed/used, to determine the total number of MSUs for each Tivoli Storage Management product. Example of How Tivoli Points Work Step 1: Determine the size of the environment to be managed in terms of the metrics. For example, assume you have 50 distributed servers and want an optional feature on three servers, broken down as follows:
.--------------+---------------------+-----------------------. | | Distributed Servers | S/390 MSUs | |--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Product |Client| T1 | T2 | T3 |Base|4- |46- |176-|316+| | Number/Name | |Svrs|Svrs|Svrs| 3 | 45| 175| 315| | | -------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Sample product| 2 | 40| 6 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Sample feature| 0 | 1| 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | '--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----' Step 2: Multiply the matrix from Step 1 by the Management Points Requirements Matrix (using just sample point numbers) to determine total number of points required.
Management Points Requirement Matrix .--------------+---------------------+-----------------------. | | Distributed Servers | S/390 MSUs | |--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Product |Client| T1 | T2 | T3 |Base|4- |46- |176-|316+| | Number/Name | |Svrs|Svrs|Svrs| 3 | 45| 175| 315| | |--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Sample product| 2 | 100| 200| 400|500 | 20| 10 | 8 | 5 | |--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----| |Sample feature| 0 | 50| 100| 200| 50 | 10| 5 | 5 | 3 | '--------------+------+----+----+----+----+---+----+----+----' Step 3: Acquire total number of Management Points required: (2*2)+(40*100)+(6*200)+(2*400)+(1*50)+(2*200)=6,454 points With 6,454 Management Points, this sample product can be designed and implemented for optimal efficiency, without concern over changing cost due to changing implementation. As the environment managed changes and evolves, as long as the points required for that environment do not exceed the quantity licensed (6,454 in this example), the customer is in compliance. Truing Up Tivoli has developed a Web-based customer tool, available to customers through their Tivoli Support contract, to make it easier to assess the points required for their environment. This tool is simple to use and allows the customer to not only determine whether they have points sufficient for their current environment, but also to do scenario planning as environments change. This tool and the customer scenarios, are secure under the customer's Tivoli Support ID and password. New Function for Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.1
The Managed System for SAN feature provides improvements in LAN-free data transfer for Microsoft Exchange and SAP Oracle database data on Windows NT and Windows 2000. LAN-free data transfer exploits the SAN path by enabling Tivoli Data Protection for MS Exchange and Tivoli Data Protection for R/3 to backup and restore data from a SAN-attached tape library that can be shared by the Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, and Sun Solaris Tivoli Storage Manager servers. LAN-free data transfer is an extension to the LAN-free data transfer capabilities available with Tivoli Storage Manager V3.7. SANs provide an alternative path for data movement between the Tivoli Storage Manager client and server. LAN-free data transfer exploits this SAN path by enabling the Tivoli Storage Manager client to backup and restore data directly to and from SAN-attached storage, which is shared between the Tivoli Storage Manager server and client, and managed by the server. The existing LAN connection is used to exchange control information such as policy information and meta data about the objects being backed up, but the data movement utilizes the SAN to write directly to the storage media. Data movement is off-loaded from the LAN and from the Tivoli Storage Manager server processor providing greater scalability for the server. The server can support a greater number of simultaneous client connections. The LAN-free client will communicate with the Tivoli Storage Manager server to obtain and store database information, and coordinate device and volume access of the storage managed by the server. The server will determine if the client is making a request to access storage for which the client has a SAN path defined. If there is a SAN path defined, then the data will be transferred on that path. If there is a failure when using the SAN path, the LAN-free client will recover from these errors by failing-over to a LAN connection to the Tivoli Storage Manager server and proceed to move data over the LAN network. The LAN-free data transfer will use SAN tape library sharing, introduced in Version 3.7, and a Tivoli Storage Manager server defined as the library manager. This library manager will manage the storage hierarchy and perform the server functions including storage pool migrations, reclamation, collocations, and backup-restore of storage pools and database. Adaptive Differencing technology fundamentally changes the way data may be transferred throughout the enterprise. Available for the AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and MVS server platforms, Adaptive Differencing technology transfers data by byte, block, or file level based on data size. This technology supports a variety of connectivity strategies, including LANs, WANs, SANs, Internet, and dial-up connections. This application is designed for mobile computer users and other users with a need to minimize the amount of data transmitted over a network. Mobile user data protection is enhanced with support for adaptive sub-file level backup and encryption of data before it is transmitted over the network. With Tivoli Storage Manager Progressive Backup Methodology, only files that have changed are candidates to be backed up, therefore, eliminating unnecessary data transfers that rob your network and CPUs of vital power and productivity. With Adaptive Differencing, the backup-archive client dynamically determines the most efficient approach for creating backup copies changed bytes, changed blocks or changed files, delivering improved backup performance over dial-up connections. With encryption, the backups being sent over the public phone lines are secure, as are the files being stored on your Tivoli Storage Manager server. Adaptive Differencing and encryption technology are supported on Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive clients for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. A file backed up using Adaptive Differencing initially sends a reference file to the Tivoli Storage Manager. Subsequent backups for that file send a delta file, which consist of the changed data from the reference copy. A restore operation reconstructs the file on the Tivoli Storage Manager client using the reference file and the delta file that represents the point in time for the restore request. Windows 2000 Support and Exploitation Tivoli Storage Manager Version 3.7 and Version 4.1 not only support but also exploit Microsoft Windows 2000. Tivoli Storage Manager server and client provide comprehensive protection for and exploitation of Windows 2000. The Tivoli Storage Manager client for Windows 2000 offers comprehensive data protection for the Windows 2000 operating systems. The Tivoli Storage Manager Server is also supported on the Windows 2000 platform, therefore making the Tivoli Storage Manager server a central part of a Windows 2000 solution. The Tivoli Storage Manager client for Windows 2000 offers comprehensive protection of the Windows 2000 System State, including Active Directory, COM+ Class Registration Database, System Volume and System Files. Other new Windows 2000 changes include disk quotas, encrypted files, distributed file systems, certificate server databases, MS cluster databases, reparse points utilized by volume mount points, directory junctions, and removable storage manager databases, which are also fully protected through Tivoli Storage Manager backups and archives. Microsoft's clustering Application Program Interfaces (APIs) are exploited by Tivoli Storage Manager to allow for active-passive failover of a single Tivoli Storage Manager server. Active-active failover can be achieved when two Tivoli Storage Manager servers are running in high-availability cluster environments. This increases system fault tolerance. Active directory functionality has been exploited by Tivoli Storage Manager. Tivoli Storage Manager servers are able to advertise themselves in the directory, so potential Tivoli Storage Manager clients can solicit their services. Once Tivoli Storage Manager clients use Active Directory to choose a server to backup, the intuitive and easy-to-use Tivoli Storage Manager setup wizard will assist them. The wizard will automate the setup needed to get the Tivoli Storage Manager client and server communicating. Online information for Tivoli Storage Manager is just a click away. One-stop shopping for Tivoli Storage Manager information is achieved through integration with Windows 2000's WinHelp. This provides merged indexes, full-text searches, and excellent print and view capabilities that cover all Tivoli Storage Manager README files, books, and Q&As. In addition, there are integrated Web links and favorites lists. Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Snap-ins have been created for the Tivoli Storage Manager server utilities, client and server command line interfaces, and the server console monitor. This makes Tivoli Storage Manager easy to access from the Microsoft Management Console. Performance for Terminal Service access to the Tivoli Storage Manager server utilities is enhanced. Network-Free Rapid Recovery is supported on Windows 2000. Rapid Recovery provides the ability to create a backup set which consolidates a client's files onto a set of media that is portable and may be directly readable by the client's system for fast, LAN-free (non-networked) restore operations. The portable backup set, which is synthesized from existing backups, is tracked and policy managed by the Tivoli Storage Manager server. The portable backup sets can be copied to ZIP and Jaz drives, and CD-ROM volumes for Windows 2000, Windows NT, AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and NetWare backup-archive client platforms. In addition, for the Windows 2000, Windows NT, AIX, Sun Solaris (32-bit), and HP-UX backup-archive clients, the backup sets can be copied to tape devices. (For Sun Solaris, the tape devices need to be certified by Sun.) For the latest media supported for Rapid Recovery backup sets, check the Tivoli Web site at: Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive clients can directly restore data from the backup set media using standard operating system device drivers. The Tivoli Storage Manager server is not required to restore the data. Many business-critical databases, running on Windows 2000, are protected by Tivoli Data Protection products. Tivoli Data Protection for MS Exchange, Tivoli Data Protection for MS SQL, Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle, Tivoli Data Protection for Lotus Domino, and Tivoli Data Protection for R/3 are supported on the Windows 2000 platform. Other New Functions for Tivoli Storage Manager ProductsTivoli Data Protection for R/3 Version 3.1 Incremental Backup (RMAN) Support Tivoli Data Protection for R/3 now supports incremental backups of the database using Oracle's Recovery Manager (RMAN). An incremental backup saves only those blocks within the database which have been changed since the last full backup. This clearly reduces the total amount of data to be backed up. Depending on the system environment, this may result in a significant decrease of backup times. It may lead to reduced network load and to a reduced need of backup system capacity. LAN-free Data Transfer Function Tivoli Data Protection for R/3, V3.1 supports Tivoli Storage Manager LAN-free data transfer on Windows NT and Windows 2000. Support for IBM DB2 UDB Tivoli Data Protection for R/3 Version 3.1 expands to include support for IBM DB2 Universal Database® (UDB), available September 28, 2000. New Install Procedures Starting with this release, Tivoli Data Protection for R/3 provides the native install procedure for each of the supported platforms, thereby automating the install process and reducing potential install errors. Administration Assistant This optional feature is being renamed from Administration Tools to Administration Assistant. The objective of the Administration Assistant is to assist in configuration, monitoring, and administration of Tivoli Data Protection for R/3. With its browser-based graphical user interface (GUI), it can operate from either a local or remote workstation. The Administration Assistant is now enhanced to provide:

Performance Considerations: Tivoli Storage Manager performance will vary depending upon a customer's particular configuration, the client/server options, and customization. Planning InformationConversion: For the AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, and Windows NT servers, the Tivoli Storage Manager database is automatically upgraded during the installation of the Tivoli Storage Manager V4.1 server. After this database upgrade, the user can no longer run a previous version of the servers with the database. For the OS/390 and MVS servers, the Tivoli Storage Manager database is not automatically upgraded during the installation of the Tivoli Storage Manager OS/390 and MVS 4.1 servers. The Tivoli Storage Manager administrator must explicitly initiate the database upgrade using the UPGRADEDB command parameter. After this database upgrade, the user can no longer run a previous version of the server with the database. As a normal precaution, it is recommended that a full database backup be performed before installing the Version 4.1 code, as well as after completing the installation. Refer to the README files for more detailed information. As part of a migration plan from Tivoli Storage Manager V3.7 to Tivoli Storage Manager V4.1, Tivoli Storage Manager clients and servers may be upgraded at different times. To ensure that you can continue your backup and archive activities during the migration, Tivoli Storage Manager V4.1 allows the following:
APPC, NetBIOS, and IPX/SPX communication protocols will not be supported in future Tivoli Storage Management levels. Packaging: Tivoli Storage Manager , Version 4.1 customers will be shipped the following basic materials with each order.

Tivoli Decision Support for Storage Management Analysis will now be included as part of the Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.1 product, for no additional charge. However, it is required that Tivoli Decision Support (5698-TDS) has been purchased in order to use Tivoli Decision Support for Storage Management Analysis. Tivoli Storage Manager and Tivoli Space Manager are the only products in the list above that are available for the VM/ESA platform. Tivoli Storage Manager, Version 4.1 for the VM platform is also packaged on the VM/ESA Version 2 Release 4 system DASD Dump Restore (DDR) as an optionally installable, priced product. If you only plan to run Tivoli Storage Manager on VM/ESA V2R4, the Tivoli Storage Manager (5698-TSM) can be added to your VM/ESA V2R4 order to establish a Tivoli Storage Manager for VM/ESA Value-Based Pricing license. Be sure to specify feature number 3471 under 5698-TSM, along with other desired features, to suppress initial shipment of the Tivoli Storage Manager media. Feature Guidelines:
Additional information:
Customers with current Passport Advantage Subscription contracts are entitled to receive Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.1 and the other Tivoli Storage Management products in this announcement, under their Passport Advantage Subscription terms. Tivoli Systems SupportAlthough the first year of support is included in the product price, a No-Charge order must be placed using program number 5698-SPT specifying: feature number 9001 for asset registration and the appropriate First-Year Tivoli Standard Support No-Charge feature number. This 5698-SPT order establishes entitlement records worldwide. If a 5698-SPT order is not placed, the customer will not be entitled to support even during this first year of the license. Prior to the end of the first 12 months support period, customers will be notified of their support renewal options. Unless the customer notifies IBM/Tivoli to discontinue or alter the level of support currently being received, support will automatically be renewed for annual billing at the same level as selected in the first year. Once the subsequent-year support feature numbers are in place, renewals are automatic and billed annually unless support is cancelled by the customer. Tivoli Systems offers a variety of support options in response to diverse customer requirements. The table below summarizes these offerings.

Support Upgrade During the first year of a license, the customer may upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option by ordering the applicable one-time charge (OTC) feature number from the table below. The OTC feature numbers may be specified on the initial order or later via an MES during the first year only. Ordering this OTC feature will not result in an extension of the no-charge (NC) support period. In subsequent years, if a customer wants to upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option, an MES order must be entered to discontinue the existing support option feature number and to add the feature number for the desired options After an MES order is entered, the support will be renewed and billed annually at that support level unless support is cancelled by the customer. 5698-SPT First-Year Support OptionsUse the following table to order support (5698-SPT) for the program products listed below. The quantity of the billable feature number for support must be equal to the Tivoli Management Points for a licensed product.
