June 30, 2000 DescriptionWebSphere Application Server for OS/390 is delivered as one product with two options:
Each includes:
WebSphere Application Server V3.02 Standard Edition for OS/390 WebSphere Application Server V3.02 Standard Edition for OS/390 includes the following elements as part of its Web deployment environment:
WebSphere Application Server V3.02 Enterprise Edition for OS/390 This option contains all of the function available in WebSphere Application Server V3.02 Standard Edition for OS/390 and also includes the IBM Component Broker run time, which is the run time supporting deployment of business object models based on CORBA objects and EJBs. CORBA objects can be developed in either Java or C++ and participate in a robust managed object framework supporting container management of the object lifecycle. The EJB support in this release is based on the EJB 1.0 specification level and is intended primarily for early exposure to the EJB programming model. Java and C++ Object Request Brokers for S/390 applications are provided. Java and C++ Business Objects are supported. Component Broker is a cross-platform, distributed, object-oriented transaction server. It supports the development and deployment of large-scale object-oriented business solutions and incorporates a robust persistent object framework that facilitates the integration of existing CICS, IMS, and DB2 assets into a new object world. WebSphere Application Server V3.02 Enterprise Edition for OS/390 specifically addresses the needs of:
Component Broker supports development and testing using advanced workstation tools such as IBM Object Builder for creating CORBA objects and IBM VisualAge for Java Integrated Development Environment for creating EJBs. Procedural Application Adapter support provides connections to legacy transaction systems such as IMS and CICS. This support is for C++ and Java Business Objects only. The Component Broker run time runs in a Parallel Sysplex environment that provides workload balancing and increased availability. Site Analyzer The workstation-based Site Analyzer focuses on developing basic traffic measurement functions while allowing the user to:
These key features enable the user to enhance and improve the Web site content and performance, making Web sites more:
The site analysis tools contain analyzers that can transform the raw server log data into valuable information that is stored in the DB2 database (delivered with the Site Analyzer). The client provides administrative, visualizing, and report-generating functions. From the client, you can schedule analysis tasks to run at specific time and/or time intervals, as well as schedule generating and publishing of the results as static or dynamic HTML reports. Progress status is broadcast to the interested clients and displayed as appropriate. After the analysis is completed, you can generate customized reports or view the data immediately through the client. The system comes with many predefined ready-to-use reports samples. Features include:
The Site Analyzer is delivered with each WebSphere Application Server for OS/390 order. Included are Windows Server and Windows Client plus Windows NT DB2, as well as AIX® and Sun Solaris Server plus AIX/Sun Solaris DB2. DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) is at the V5.2 level with Fixpak 10. Because Site Analyzer runs on a distributed platform, the logs generated by WebSphere Application Server for OS/390 must be transferred to the Site Analyzer for processing. Java Development Kit (JDK) JDK 1.1.8 is shipped with each WebSphere Application Server for OS/390 order. Product PositioningWebSphere Application Server for OS/390 extends the S/390 role as a premier server for enterprise e-business and exploits the S/390 hallmark qualities of service such as scalability, performance, security, and availability. Furthermore, new applications can be integrated with the extensive inventory of existing S/390 applications. The result is the rapid creation of production-ready e-business applications, along with the ability to evolve to the Enterprise Java Beans or CORBA-based deployment model of choice.
