Overview

The MQSeries® Adapter Offering (MQAO) is intended to provide all the adapters anyone will need in today's MQSeries Application Integration environment.

Just as messaging has become pervasive within application integration, and MQSeries has become the widely adopted messaging protocol, then MQAO is intended to form the basis of MQSeries adapters for:

  • Customers
  • Business Partners
  • Service providers

MQAO includes a runtime component called MQSeries Adapter Kernel, which enables the deployment of adapters, and associated, optionally available services to produce adapters that simplify application integration using MQSeries messaging.

Following the availability of MQSeries Adapter Kernel, IBM will provide, as a starter set, a number of adapter blueprints to support packaged application environments. These are intended to enable customers, Business Partners, and services providers to get off to a fast start with MQAO.

If MQSeries messaging were the national highway network and your applications were the towns and cities connected by the highway network, then the adapters are the on- off-ramps.

IBM MQSeries Family, including MQSeries, MQSeries Integrator and MQSeries Workflow, of open, scalable, industrial-strength messaging and information infrastructure products enable enterprises and their partners to integrate business processes to form an efficient enterprise or community-wide system.

With the MQSeries family of products different hardware and software platforms can behave as if they were designed to work together. You are no longer constrained by platform and application incompatibility.

MQSeries is a key technology for IBM e-business and is the key technology for IBM business integration.

Description

New for MQSeries

The MQSeries Adapter Offering (MQAO), is intended to provide all the adapters anyone will need in today's MQSeries Application Integration environment. Just as messaging is pervasive within application integration, and MQSeries has become the widely adopted messaging protocol, then MQAO is intended to form the basis of MQSeries adapters for customers, Business Partners, and service providers.

The MQAO leverages the industry standards defined by the Open Applications Group, Inc.'s (OAG) Business Object Documents (BODs). The OAG publishes the BOD document type definitions for free download from their Web site:

The adapters:

  • Support point-to-point integration for heterogeneous applications.
  • Isolate proprietary data and interfaces at the end points of the integration architecture and therefore help to contain the impact of change.
  • Simplify transformation in the broker — Using standard message formats for application integration removes the need to implement complex mappings between proprietary data formats in the message broker.
  • Minimizes processing rules in the broker — Message processing rules in the broker are associated with specific messages. Minimizing the number of messages (for example different message formats) defined in the broker therefore reduces the number of processing rules required.

A number of selected adapter blueprints to support packaged application environments will be made available as Category 2 Software Developer Kits from the MQSeries Web site.

MQSeries Adapter Kernel

The MQSeries Adapter Kernel is executable code specific to a platform. It provides generic support for adapters such as message creation, parsing, and error logging, as well as the interface to MQSeries messaging. In addition, for installations without MQSeries Integrator, the Kernel supports a simple, static routing mechanism through which transactions (messages) can be routed from one originator to one or more receivers.

The benefit of the Adapter Kernel is that it contains the code common to all adapters and therefore reduces the amount of application-specific code needed in an adapter.

Use entitlement associated with the MQSeries Adapter Kernel takes the form of a server install enabling use of an instance of the run-time Kernel on a server, and separate authorization to use adapters within the run-time Kernel. An adapter enables one message to be processed inbound or outbound, to or from an application. A Proof of Entitlement is required for each and every adapter used, whether it be developed directly by the customer or provided by a third party.

Year 2000

These products are Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with their associated documentation, they are capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the products properly exchange accurate date data with them.

The service end date for these Year-2000-ready products is December 31, 2002.
