The IBM System Storage™ N series function authorizations are for billing purposes only and establish authorization for use of the licensed functions on the following IBM System Storage N series hardware:

All N series licensed functions are enabled, authorized, and activated at the 2859, 2862, 2863, 2864, 2865, 2866, 2867, 2878, or 2869 system level. The following terms are defined in the context of licensed functions.
286x system refers to the following 2859 and 286x storage controller or gateway:
2859 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2862 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2863 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2864 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2864 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
2865 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2865 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
2866 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2866 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
2867 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2867 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
2868 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2868 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
2869 storage controller unit: Model A10 or A20
2869 gateway unit: Model G10 or G20
286x unit and N series unit: any of the units
Enablement refers to the selection of a 2859, 2862, 2863, 2864, 2865, 2866, 2867, 2868, or 2869 licensed function indicator feature to technically activate a licensed function.
Authorization refers to an acquisition of an N series function authorization (IBM 2870) feature to establish authorization for use of a licensed function.
Activation refers to the installation of an activation code into the N series system. The activation code is made available by IBM.
Enablement: Each licensed function is enabled for a N series system when you select the appropriate licensed function indicator feature on the 2859 or 286x storage controller unit or on the 286x gateway unit.
Each licensed function indicator feature that you select on a 286x gateway unit enables that function at the system level. These features may not be selected on any attached expansion units.
Authorization: Authorization for the use of a licensed function on an N series system is established when you acquire 2870 function authorization features for the N series unit.
Each function authorization acquired for a 2859 or 286x unit establishes the authorization level for the N series system. For example, a 2866 system with a Model G20 requires only one Data ONTAP (2870 Model 666 #7750) function authorization.
When 2870 function authorization features are initially acquired with a 2859 or 286x system (plant order), your 2870 function authorization is assigned an IBM serial number. To acquire additional function authorizations for that system, you must order function authorization features using the 2870 serial number associated with that system.
Each system can only have one associated 2870 function authorization serial number.
Activation: Licensed functions are activated by installing activation codes on the N series system. The activation codes are made available by IBM.
The installation of activation codes is a client responsibility; however, IBM may choose to
factory-install the activation codes on new machine orders.

Hardware requirements
The N series function authorization (IBM 2870) establishes authorization for the use of licensed functions acquired for an IBM TotalStorage® N series hardware machine. Each 2870 function authorization is applicable only for the specific N series hardware machine (by serial number) for which it was acquired and is not transferable to another serial numbered N series hardware machine.
Each 2870 function authorization feature number requires a corequisite licensed function indicator feature number on the N series hardware machine for which is was acquired.
Current license terms for the machine code provided with this product prohibit transfer of the machine code without approval from Network Appliance.
Planning information
You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called "BIOS"), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features,
administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
