Memory upgrade features for the IBM System Storage™ SAN Volume Controller (SVC) master console add memory to bring the master console to its maximum of 4 gigabytes. These optional memory features are designed to provide additional console resource for larger SVC configurations or for the possible addition of IBM TotalStorage® Productivity Center.
A feature is also available to simplify the engagement of IBM System and Technology Group Lab
Services for custom work to optimize datacenters and systems solutions with IBM System Storage
products.

| Description |
|
A hardware master console (feature #4001) used with 2145 Model 4F2, 8F2, and 8F4 may require additional memory (RAM) if an increase in performance is desired or required. Three different master console machines have been used by SVC. The IBM xSeries® 305 server (8673 Model RA1) and the IBM xSeries 306 server (8836 Model 2KX) both have memory upgrade features available.
The IBM xSeries 306m server (8849 Model PBC) already has the maximum of 4 GB of memory installed; no upgrade features are available for this machine.
If additional memory is required, you should:
- Determine if the master console is an xSeries 305, xSeries 306, or xSeries 306m. The label on the front of the machine provides the model number.
- Determine how much memory is currently installed in the master console.
- Use the table below to determine which of the memory upgrade features to order. Memory type and speed differs between the 305 and 306; the memory features are not interchangeable.
The following table indicates the possible memory upgrade options.

MC Memory Upgrade x305 2-GB (#4202): This feature provides an additional 2 GB of memory for a currently installed 305 master console (#4001) with 2 GB memory installed. It is intended to increase the master console memory to 4 GB.
MC Memory Upgrade x305 3-GB (#4204): This feature provides an additional 3 GB of memory for a currently installed 305 master console (#4001) with 1 GB memory installed. It is intended to increase the master console memory to 4 GB.
MC Memory Upgrade x306 2-GB (#4211): This feature provides an additional 2 GB of memory for a currently installed 306 master console (#4001) with 2 GB memory installed. It is intended to increase the master console memory to 4 GB.
STG Lab Services (#1888)
This feature provides one day of Storage and Technology custom services and consulting. The STG Lab Services team must be contacted by the IBM account team, prior to placing the order for this feature, to allow sizing of the work to be completed by these services. Hardware requirements
Master Console (#4001) requirements: Master console memory upgrades are available for and supported on only those IBM hardware master consoles (feature number 4001) for which they are intended. Refer to the Description section for specifics.
Planning information
You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called "BIOS"), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.
