Overview

The IBM System Storage™ TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05 (machine type 3592, model E05) is supported for integration in the IBM TotalStorage® Tape Libraries, Virtual Tape Servers (VTS), and tape controllers. The TS1120 Tape Drive is designed to provide higher levels of performance, reliability, and cartridge capacity than the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592 Model J1A. The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive can help address the needs of tape customers across a broad range of computing environments. A 4 Gb Fibre Channel Switch feature is also available with its integrated support in the IBM TotalStorage 3592 Tape Controller Model J70, the IBM TotalStorage 3953 Library Manager Frame Model F05, and the IBM TotalStorage 3494 Tape Library Model D22.

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive has a dual-port 4-Gbps Fibre Channel interface for Fibre Channel attachment to host systems or a switched fabric environment. It has a high-technology design that increases the native data rate to up to 100 MB/sec, 2.5 times the 40 MB/sec data rate of the 3592 Model J1A, and over 7 times the 14 MB/sec data rate of the 3590 E or H Models.

With the use of the IBM TotalStorage Tape Data Cartridge 3592, the TS1120 Model E05 can format a cartridge uncompressed up to 500 GB (1.5 TB with 3:1 compression), 1.6 times the maximum capacity of the 3592 Model J1A and eight times more than the maximum capacity of a 3590 H Model. The TS1120 E05 is designed for automation and uses a tape cartridge with a form factor similar to the 3590 tape cartridges, which allows it to be used in the IBM TotalStorage 3584 and 3494 Tape Libraries, and StorageTek Automated Cartridge System (ACS) solutions. It is also available for installation in a stand-alone rack. TS1120 E05 Tape Drives attached to a 3494 VTS Model B10 or B20 will operate in J1A emulation mode.

The TS1120 E05 is designed to support capacity scaling of JA tape cartridges to 100 GB. Capacity scaling allows the utilized length of tape to be logically shortened, allowing improved data access times in trade-off for reduced capacity. The tapes can subsequently be scaled back to full capacity as needed. Multiple scale settings are supported on the E05 drive including a 100 GB, 20% scaled JA cartridge. Additional enhancements have been made to the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive to help improve availability, performance, and capacity.

Description

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is a follow-on to the 3592 Tape Drive Model J1A and the highly successful 3590 Enterprise Tape Drive. The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is machine type 3592 and model E05. It is designed for high-performance tape applications, including:

  • High-speed data-save operations where backup windows are critical, and large amounts of data are archived to tape.
  • Large-scale automated tape environments where performance and reliability are required.
  • Large-scale mass data archive applications where massive amounts of data need to be quickly saved to tape for storage and later recall (examples include the seismic industry, data warehousing, and record management applications).

The TS1120 E05, is the second generation of a new family of tape products that are designed to meet the growing needs of both new and existing IBM tape customers across a wide range of environments. Highlights of the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive include:

  • Higher performance, which can help reduce the number of tape drives required
  • Larger capacity compared to the 3592 J1A, to help you reduce the number of cartridges required and floor space needed
  • Smaller form factor compared to the 3592 J1A than the 3590 Tape Drive, which can help reduce the automation foot print
  • Dual-ported native switched fabric interface, designed to enhance the attachment flexibility
  • High reliability, to help improve operations
  • Additional performance and access improvements over the 3592 J1A

Capacity

The TS1120 E05 is designed to provide over 8 times the native cartridge capacity of a 3590 E or H Model, or 1.6 times the cartridge capacity of a 3592 Model J1A. Performance

The TS1120 EO5 uses a design that increases the native data rate to 100 MB/sec, versus the 40 MB/sec data rate of the 3592 Tape Drive Model J1A. With compression and a 32 K blocksize, the TS1120 E05 can offer up to 1.6 times the data rate of the 3592 Model J1A. The TS1120 E05 is designed to offer improved access characteristics in load/ready time, search velocity, and rewind time versus the 3590. The TS1120 E05 has other enhancements designed to help aid small file and Hierarchical Storage Manager performance.

Note: The actual throughput a customer may achieve is a function of many components, such as system processor, disk data rate, data block size, data compressibility, I/O attachments, SAN, and the system or application software used. Although the drive is capable of a 100 MB/sec native data rate, other components may limit the actual effective data rate.

Capacity scaling

The TS1120 E05 is designed to support capacity scaling of an individual tape cartridge to 100 GB. Capacity scaling allows the utilized length of tape to be logically shortened, allowing improved data access times in trade-off for reduced capacity. The tapes can subsequently be scaled back to full capacity as needed. Multiple scale settings are supported on the E05 drive including a 100GB, 20% scaled JA cartridge.

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive allows an application to issue a command to scale the IBM TotalStorage Tape Data Cartridge 3592 to 100 GB. Customers can exploit the capacity scaling capability of the TS1120 E05. Refer to the publication DFSMS Software Support for IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape System 3592 (SC26-7514-02), for more information about software support for the TS1120 E05.

Cartridges pre-scaled for 100 GB capacity are also available for order with the 3599 Models E11, E21, 011, and 021. These pre-scaled cartridges can be ordered (and labeled) for a specific VOLSER range. This allows capacity scaling to be exploited by an application that permits media pools to be defined by VOLSER range. Media and cartridge capacity

The TS1120 E05 provides capacity leadership with media re-use and uses the JA tape cartridge with an advanced metal particle tape specifically optimized for the enterprise tape environment, providing a native cartridge capacity of 500 GB (or up to 1.5 TB with 3:1 compression). This is a significant improvement over the 10 GB to 60 GB native cartridge capacity available with the 3590 B, E, or H Models, or the 300 GB native cartridge capacity available with the 3592 Tape Drive Model J1A. This can be beneficial in space savings and economy of data storage since it can help lower the cost of storage per megabyte. For applications that fill current data cartridges, this can help reduce the number of tape cartridges required. The reduced number of cartridges may also help free up floor space for other requirements and reduce the number of automation slots used.

The robust 3590-style cartridge shell is designed to sustain a 1 meter drop. The cartridge has a similar form factor as the 3590 and 3490, allowing it to be used in 3494 and 3584 Tape Libraries and STK Silo ACS solutions. The Enterprise Tape Cartridge 3599 also contains cartridge memory that is a passive, contactless silicon storage device. It is used to hold information about the specific cartridge, including the VOLSER, the media in the cartridge, and the drive.

Attachment options

The TS1120 E05 has dual-ported 4-Gbps native switched fabric Fibre Channel interfaces. This offers attachment flexibility in an open systems environment. The drives can be directly attached to open systems servers with Fibre Channel, or to ESCON or FICON servers with the 3592 J70 Controller or 3494 Virtual Tape Server Models B10 or B20. The TS1120 E05 is supported in a wide range of environments including selected IBM mainframe, iSeries, AS/400, pSeries, RS/6000, xSeries, Sun, and Hewlett Packard servers, as well as Intel-compatible servers running Microsoft Windows and Linux. The TS1120 E05 can also attach to zSeries® servers with FCP channels and Linux. The TS1120 E05 may provide additional value-add when supported in a 3584 Tape Library, 3494 Tape Library, and in a StorageTek 9310 ACS environment.

Statistical Analysis and Recording System

The TS1120 E05 uses Statistical Analysis and Recording System to assist in isolating failures between media and hardware. It is designed to use the cartridge performance history saved in the cartridge and drive performance history kept in the drive to determine the more likely cause of failure. It is designed to cause the drive to mark the media as degraded, and to indicate that the hardware has degraded.

High-availability data path failover and dynamic load balancing

High-availability data path failover is available with the AIX®, Linux, Solaris, and Windows IBM tape device drivers. The failover mechanism is designed to enable you to configure multiple redundant paths in a SAN environment with the TS1120 E05. In the event of a path or component failure, the failover mechanism is designed to automatically enable error recovery to retry the current operation using an alternate, preconfigured path without aborting the current job in progress. This supports flexibility in SAN configuration, availability, and management.

A function in the AIX, Linux, and Solaris IBM tape device drivers, Dynamic Load Balancing, is also available for the TS1120 E05 Tape Drives used in a SAN environment. The dynamic load balancing support is designed to improve resources for devices that have physical connections to multiple Host Bus Adapters (HBA) in the same machine. When an application opens a device that has multiple HBA paths configured, the device driver determines which path has the HBA with the lowest usage, and assigns that path to the application. The device driver is designed to dynamically track the usage on each HBA as applications open and close devices, and balance the number of applications using each HBA in the machine. This can help optimize HBA resources and improves overall performance.

Additional enhancements

The TS1120 E05 incorporates tape enhancements introduced with the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drive that are designed to help improve performance, capacity, and availability including:

  • N+1 power supplies: The TS1120 E05 incorporates n+1 power supplies when it is installed in an automation frame. This is designed to help increase drive availability in the event of a power supply failure.
  • Digital speed matching: The TS1120 E05 is designed to dynamically perform digital speed matching to adjust the drive's native data rate to the net host data rate (after data compressibility has been factored out). This is designed to help allow slower hosts to stream the tape drive. The TS1120 has six speed matching levels compared to the four offered in the 3592 J1A.
  • Channel calibration: The channel calibration feature is designed to allow for customization of each read/write data channel for optimum performance. The customization can enable compensation for variations in the recording channel transfer function, media characteristics, and read/write head characteristics. The TS1120 E05 is designed to automatically perform recalibration in the field if it detects degraded performance.
  • High resolution tape directory plus enhanced search speed: The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive maintains a tape directory structure with a high granularity of information about the physical position of data blocks on the media. This feature, plus the increased search speed allow the TS1120 E05 to have improved nominal and average access times for locate operations versus previous IBM tape drives.
  • Streaming Lossless Data Compression (SLDC) algorithm: SLDC is an implementation of a Lempel-Ziv class 1 (LZ-1) data compression algorithm. It is an extension to Adaptive Lossless Data Compression (ALDC) and is designed to offer an improvement over previous IBM lossless compression algorithms.

In addition, the TS1120 E05 offers the following enhancements over the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drive:

  • New dual-stage 16-head actuator designed to provide precision head alignment to help support higher track density and improved data integrity
  • Improvement in physical load/ready time of over 20% versus 3591 J1A.
  • Large internal data buffer: The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive has a 512 MB internal data buffer versus a 128 MB maximum in the 3592 Model J1A and a 16 MB maximum in the 3590 Tape Drive. Along with enabling higher performance characteristics, the data buffer is designed to use support read ahead of approximately 500 MB of compressed data from tape and provide high performance random skip forward sequential (short hop) locates common in database search and tape software recycle operations.
  • Improved error correction capabilities (ECC): The correction power of the ECC code has been increased over the previous design offered with the 3592 Model J1A format that is designed to offer increased data reliability.
  • Offboard data string searching: The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive can search the data content of host records for string matches offboard from the host server. The tape drive can perform this search at maximum data rate (100 MB/sec native) while it would take much longer for a host server to read the data, buffer the data to disk, and then parse the actual data stream with host software routines.
  • Enhanced logic to report Logical End-of-Tape (LEOT): LEOT is now reported based on a combination of capacity-based and position-based LEOT indicators. The TS1120 E05 monitors the total accumulated number of physical tape datasets written to the volume and will report LEOT based on this capacity-based LEOT value. This allows tape copies to complete without overflow a much higher percentage of the time.
  • Native search speed increased to 10 mb per second.

4 Gb Fibre Channel Switch

The 4 Gb Fibre Channel Switch has 20 LC short wavelength ports for attachment of up to 16 3592 Tape Drives or 12 3590 Tape Drives to a 3592 Controller Model J70. The 4 Gb Fibre Channel Switch has 20 LC short wavelength ports for attachment of up to 12 3592 Tape Drives to a 3494 VTS Models  B10 or B20. The 4 Gb Fibre Channel Switch has dual-power connection for attachment to separate power supplies. Intermix of 3590 and 3592 Tape Drives is not allowed.

Product positioning

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is the follow-on to the 3592 Tape Drive Model J1A and the highly successful 3590 Enterprise Tape Drive. The TS1120 E05 is supported in a wide range of environments, including selected IBM mainframe, iSeries, AS/400, pSeries, RS/6000, xSeries, Sun, and Hewlett Packard servers, as well as Intel-compatible servers running Linux and Microsoft Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003.     • Backup windows are growing and there is a need for higher-performance tape drives to backup larger amounts of data in less time.
    • A Fibre Channel attached drive with native switched fabric capability is required.
  • Other large scale tape environments, such as:
    • High-speed data-save operations where backup windows are critical, and large amounts of data are archived to tape
    • Large-scale automated tape installations where performance, capacity, and reliability are requirements
    • Large-scale mass data archive applications where massive amounts of data need to be quickly saved to tape for storage and later recall (examples include the seismic industry, data warehousing, and record management applications)
    • Environments where both streaming and start/stop (access), large file and small file workloads are required.

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is for installation in a 3584 or 3494 Tape Library, a 3592 Model C20 Silo Compatible Frame, or standalone rack. For all installations, the tape drive comes enclosed in a canister. In a 3494 frame, this canister installs into a cradle, of which two are installed per level in a frame (#4800). For rack installation, a left drive cradle with a shelf must be installed before the right drive cradle can be installed. For both installations, cradles include redundant hot-swappable power supplies for both tape drives, as well as logic cards for management of power, serial numbers and ID identifiers, and must be installed before the tape drive canisters can be installed. When installed in a 3592 Model C20, up to two tape drive canisters can be installed on a drive shelf. A cradle, or Model C20 drive shelf, includes dual-redundant hot-swappable power supplies for both tape drives, as well as logic cards for handling the dual power and the management of serial number and ID identifiers.

Up to four drives can be installed in a 3494 Model L22, up to 12 drives in a 3494 Model D22, or up to eight drives in a Model D24 with an ESCON/FICON attachable tape controller. If TS1120 E05 Tape Drives are installed in the same 3494 Frame with 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives, the TS1120 E05 Tape Drives must operate in Model J1A emulation mode. If the 3494 Model D22 is attached to VTS, TS1120 E05 Tape Drives must operate in J1A emulation mode. Up to 20 TS1120 E05 Tape Drives can be installed in a 3592 Model C20.

For installation in a rack, up to two TS1120 E05 Tape Drives can be installed (#4674) in each cradle feature (#4802 or #4812). The cradle requires 10 EIA units of rack space. Two cradles can be mounted on a shelf, for a total of four tape drives on a shelf. A 2.0 meter rack, without a tape controller, can thus contain up to 16 tape drives. A 2.0 meter rack with a tape controller, or a 1.6 meter to 1.8 meter rack without a tape controller, can contain up to 12 tape drives. A 1.6 meter to 1.8 meter rack with a tape controller, can contain up to 8 tape drives. If space is available, an existing customer rack may be used. Refer to the 3590, 3592, or 3494 Sales Manuals for further information. Up to 12 TS1120 drives can be installed in a 3584 Model L22 or D22 frame. The 3584 Model L22 Base Frame and Model D22 Expansion Frame are designed for TS1120 Model E05 and 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives and 3592 cartridges. Each frame supports up to 12 tape drives with an incremental reduction of storage slots for each set of four drives installed. A 3592 Fibre Drive Mounting Kit feature (#1503) is required for installing a TS1120 or 3592 Tape Drive in a drive slot. The TS1120 or 3592 Tape Drive must be ordered separately, and is installed in a 3584 frame with one of the following feature numbers:

  • 1674 — 3592 Drive Field Install
  • 9677 — Plant Install 3592 J1A in 3584
  • 9680 — Plant Install 3592 E05 in 3584

Additionally, feature number 9680, Plant Install 3592 E05 in 3584, needs to be selected against the 3584 frame. Each frame can have up to 12 logical libraries or 12 control paths (one per tape drive). For planning information, refer to the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape System 3592 Introduction and Planning Guide , (GA32-0464) or the IBM TotalStorage 3584 Tape Library Introduction and Planning Guide , (GA32-0469), or the IBM TotalStorage 3584 Tape Library Operator Guide , (GA32-0468).

Appropriate Fibre Channel cable(s) should be ordered for each tape drive. Refer to the Cables section for a list of available cables. Also, refer to the Fibre Channel Cables section of the Special Feature Codes in the 3592 Model E05 Sales Manual for Fibre Channel cable information.

Labeled or initialized cartridges for TS1120 E05 Tape Drives can be ordered using machine type 3599. Refer to the Supplies information section.

Cables: A fiber optic cable is required for attaching a TS1120 E05 Tape Drive to host Fibre Channel adapters or other storage area Fibre Channel components. The cable can be customer supplied, or ordered with the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive in the lengths available. The attaching fiber cable must be 50.0/125 micrometers for distances up to 300 meters. The connector on the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is a LC duplex connector type. The Fibre Channel cables with LC or SC duplex connectors can be ordered on the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive in the lengths indicated with the following feature numbers:

  • 5907 — 7-meter Fibre Channel cable with an LC connector on one end and an SC connector on the other end
  • 5913 — 13-meter Fibre Channel cable with an LC connector on one end and an SC connector on the other end
  • 5922 — 22-meter Fibre Channel cable with an LC connector on one end and an SC connector on the other end
  • 5961 — 61-meter Fibre Channel cable with an LC connector on one end and an SC connector on the other end
  • 6005 — 5-meter Fibre Channel cable with LC connectors on both ends
  • 6013 — 13-meter Fibre Channel cable with LC connectors on both ends
  • 6025 — 25-meter Fibre Channel cable with LC connectors on both ends
  • 6061 — 61-meter Fibre Channel cable with LC connectors on both ends

Software requirements

Support for the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is provided in OS/400®, AIX®, HP-UX, Linux, Sun, and Microsoft™ Windows™ 2000 or 2003 operating system environments. Support for the z/OS®, z/VM®, and VSE/ESA™ operating system environments is available through the 3592 Model J70 Controller or 3494 VTS Models B10 or B20.

The installation of a TS1120 E05 Tape Drive may require code updates for S/390, AS/400, and supported open systems device drivers or storage management software. Per the Solutions Assurance Product Review (SAPR) Guide, the account team or Business Partner should confirm that the customer checks the appropriate PSP buckets for System z9, zSeries, or S/390 environments or the equivalent support levels required for their particular software environment prior to the installation of the TS1120 E05. A Solutions Assurance call is required at a minimum for the installation of the first new TS1120 E05 in an account.

System z9, zSeries, and S/390

The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is supported for attachment to ESCON and FICON channels on System z9, zSeries, or S/390 servers through the 3592 Model J70 Controller or 3494 VTS Models B10 or B20 as follows:

  • z/OS: Support for the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is provided at z/OS V1R4 and above. For z/OS V1R4 and z/OS V1R5, refer to enabling APAR OA11388 and for z/OS V1R6 and z/OS V1R7, refer to enabling APAR OA13110.
  • z/VSE®: Support for the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is provided at z/VSE 3.1.1. No additional support PTFs are required.
  • z/VM: Support for the TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is provided at z/VM 4.4.0 and higher with CP APAR VM3812. In addition, tape library support requires DFSMS/VM® FL1221 with RMS APAR VM63811.

Compatibility

  • The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive is read and write compatible with the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drive.
    • The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive can read and append to cartridges written by the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drive.
    • The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive can write cartridges in a 3592 Model J1A format that can be read and appended to by the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drive.
  • The TS1120 E05 Tape Drive cannot read cartridges written by the 3590 or 3490. Cartridges written by the TS1120 E05 cannot be read by the 3590 or 3490. Even though the cartridges are similar in size, they contain different media, and thus are not interchangeable.
  • The TS1120 E05 can be attached to the same 3592 Model J70 Controller or 3494 VTS Models B10 or B20 with 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives.

Limitations

  • Although multiple systems may be attached to a TS1120 E05 Tape Drive, the systems cannot use the drive simultaneously. The TS1120 E05 can only be varied online to one system at a time.
  • TS1120 E05 Tape Drives cannot be attached to the same 3592 Model J70 Controller with 3590 Tape Drives.
  • TS1120 E05 Tape Drives are not supported for attachment to a 3590 Controller Model A60, A50, or A00.
  • TS1120 E05 Tape Drives will operate in J1A emulation mode when they are attached to the same 3592 J70 Controller with 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives. This mode is set automatically by the microcode. In this mode, the E05 drives will read and write only in the J1A format at the J1A capacity and approximate performance ratings. This configuration requires J70 code level 1.19.1.xx or higher and Library Manager 532.xx or higher.
  • TS1120 E05 Tape Drives attached to a 3494 VTS Model B10 or B20 will operate in J1A emulation mode. This mode is set automatically by the microcode. In this mode,the E05 drives will read and write only in the J1A format at the J1A capacity and approximate performance ratings. This configuration requires VTS code 2.32.745.x or higher and Library Manager 532.xx or higher.
  • 3592 J1A Drives attached to the 3494 VTS Models B10 or B20 cannot be replaced by 3592 E05 Tape Drives.
  • The VTS does not support Capacity Scaling of cartridges.
  • Currently, the TS1120 E05 Tape Drives running under OS/400 applications can read J1A format but can not write J1A format.

Planning information

Customer responsibilities: Physical planning is a customer responsibility. Current levels of the open systems device drivers should be obtained to ensure the TS1120 E05 is supported. The 3592 Tape Controller Model J70, 3494 VTS Models B10 and B20, and 3494 Tape Library may require subsystem microcode updates by the IBM service representative for the proper installation and operation of attached TS1120 E05 Tape Drive. Inform your IBM representative to refer to TS1120 E05 maintenance information for information on these requirements so they may be incorporated into your installation planning. IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems. To take full advantage of IBM Electronic Services on an IBM eServer i5 running AIX 5L 5.2, clients should install Service Agent under AIX 5L 5.2 to assist in reporting AIX operating system related problems.

Warranty service: If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service depending on the types of warranty service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone, or electronically via an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. If applicable to your product, parts considered Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs ) will be provided as part of the machine's standard warranty service.

Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of warranty service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country and location specific information. This product is covered by the following type(s) of service.

On-site service

IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well lit, and suitable for the purpose.

  • 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, same-day response

If your problem can be resolved with a CRU (for example, keyboard, mouse, speaker, memory, or hard disk drive), IBM may ship the CRU to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your Machine and are available from IBM at any time on your request.

Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next-business-day delivery. IBM specifies in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM. When return is required, (1) return instructions and a container are shipped with the replacement CRU, and (2) you may be charged for the replacement CRU if IBM does not receive the defective CRU within 30 days of your receipt of the replacement.

Warranty service upgrades and maintenance service options

Warranty service upgrades:

During the warranty period, warranty service upgrades provide an enhanced level of on-site service for an additional charge. A warranty service upgrade must be purchased during the warranty period and is for a fixed term (duration). It is not refundable or transferable and may not be prorated. If required, IBM will provide the warranty service upgrade enhanced level of on-site service acquired by the customer. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed.

CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request.

Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next-business-day delivery. IBM specifies, in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU, whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM.
