The N3700 is a storage solution designed to provide NAS and iSCSI functionality for entry and midrange environments. The N3700 offering includes:

The IBM TotalStorage® N3700 is the first offering from the IBM TotalStorage N series of products. The N3700 is designed to:
- Support entry-level and midrange customers requiring Network Attached Storage (NAS) or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) functionality
- Support Network File System (NFS), Common Internet File System (CIFS), and iSCSI protocols
- Provide scalability up to a physical storage capacity of 16.8 TB
- Provide high-availability options
The N3700 offering includes the Model A10, a single-node base unit, and the Model A20, a clustered, high-availability, dual-node base unit. Both models are designed to provide fast data access and simultaneous multiprotocol support with low maintenance requirements, and the Model A10 is upgradeable to the Model A20. Additional functionality, such as snapshot, compliance, mirroring, and business continuance capabilities, is available through optional licensed functions.
The N3700 comes fully configured with 14 disk drives in 72 GB, 144 GB, and 300 GB capacities.
Physical capacity can be scaled to up to 16.8 TB with the attachment of up to three IBM
TotalStorage N Series EXP600 expansion units. The EXP600 expansion unit also comes fully configured
with 14 disk drives in 72 GB, 144 GB, or 300 GB capacity and is designed to be fully compatible
with future IBM TotalStorage N series offerings.

IBM TotalStorage N3700
The N3700 consists of the Model A10 or Model A20, and its associated software.
The Model A10 is designed to provide a single-node filer with NFS, CIFS, and iSCSI support in a 3U, integrated filer mounted in a standard 19-inch rack. This base chassis includes redundant hot-plug power supplies, redundant cooling fans, and two integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. The N3700 Model A10 is capable of being upgraded to an N3700 Model A20.
The Model A20 is designed to provide identical function as the N3700 Model A10, but with the addition of the Clustered Failover (CFO) function. The N3700 Model A20 consists of two processing nodes that are designed to provide failover and failback function, helping improve overall reliability.
Both N3700 models come fully configured with 14 disk drives of the same type. Disk drive options include 72 GB (10,000 or 15,000 rpm), 144 GB (10,000 or 15,000 rpm), and 300 GB (10,000 rpm).
The N3700 is designed to interoperate with products capable of data transmission in the
industry-standard iSCSI, CIFS, and NFS protocols. This includes IBM 
pSeries®, iSeries™, and

Physical capacity of the N3700 can be scaled to up to 16.8 TB with the attachment of up to three EXP600 expansion units. The EXP600 expansion unit comes fully configured with 14 disk drives of the same type. Disk drive options include 72 GB (10,000 or 15,000 rpm), 144 GB (10,000 or 15,000 rpm), and 300 GB (10,000 rpm).
N3700 licensed functions
The following licensed functions are provided with the N3700 Models A10 and A20 (some functions apply to Model A20 only) at no additional charge and are designed to:
- Data ONTAP: provide base operating system function.
- iSCSI: provide iSCSI support if the machine is to be used as an iSCSI target.
- FlexCache: enable file caching on the filer; it is used to automatically replicate, store, and serve data over NFS.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with FlexVol™: enable replication of data volumes and data sets without requiring additional storage space at the time of creation.
- Disk Sanitization: enable repeated overwrite of the data on disk to help make the data physically unrecoverable.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapShot™: allow creation of a locally retained point-in-time image of data.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapMover®: enable migration of data among IBM N series storage systems while avoiding disruption to users (available on Model A20 only).
The following licensed functions are available on the N3700 Models A10 and A20 as optional features. They are designed to:
- CIFS: provide Common Internet File System support; it is required if the machine is to receive data in CIFS protocol.
- HTTP: provide Hyper Text Transfer Protocol support.
- NFS: provide Network File System support; it is required if the machine is to receive data in NFS protocol.
- CFO: enable the transfer of data service from an unavailable filer to the other filer in the cluster (available on Model A20 only).
- IBM System Storage N3700 with FlexClone™: enable replication of data volumes and data sets without requiring additional storage space at the time of creation.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with MultiStore®: enable creation of private logical partitions in filer networks.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapMirror®: provide mirroring of data to one or more network filers.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapLock™ Compliance: prevent deletion or alteration of data prior to a specified retention date.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapLock™ Enterprise: provide function similar to SnapLock Compliance, but allow administrators to delete SnapLock Enterprise volumes.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapRestore®: help recover of data that has been compromised or lost.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapVault® Primary: provide a centralized disk-based backup for heterogeneous storage environments. This feature is the license for the primary backup system in use.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with SnapVault® Secondary: provide function similar to the SnapVault Primary, but is required to attain the license for the secondary backup device.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with LockVault™ Compliance: integrate IBM SnapLock and IBM SnapVault technologies to create a solution specifically designed to address compliance requirements for unstructured data. Designed to prevent deletion or alteration of data prior to a specified retention date.
- IBM System Storage N3700 with LockVault™ Enterprise: integrate IBM SnapLock and IBM SnapVault technologies to create a solution specifically designed to address compliance requirements for unstructured data. This enterprise version provides function similar to LockVault Compliance, but allows administrators to delete LockVault Enterprise volumes.

The IBM TotalStorage N3700 and N series EXP600 are capable, as of August 26, 2005, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. Disk drive features
All 2863 models support 14 disk drives, and all the disk drives installed within a model must be of the same type (interface, capacity, and speed).
The following disk drive options are available for all 2863 models. Each feature number provides a quantity of one disk drive.

The 2863 Model 001 expansion unit requires Fibre Channel cables to connect the unit to a Model A10 or A20 base unit or to another Model 001 expansion unit.

All 2863 models are designed to be mounted into a rack. The following rack installation option is available for all models:

Power (line) cord features
All 2863 models ship standard with feature #9000 to connect the 2863 to a rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) that has IEC 320, sheet C13, type power outlets.

Hardware requirements
Licensed Machine Code: The IBM 2863 Models 001, A10, and A20 require Licensed Machine Code (LMC) level 7.1.0, or later. Some features and functions may not be available or supported in all environments. Current information on supported environments, prerequisites, and minimum operating systems levels is available at

Limitations
- The 2863 is supported only in rack installations.
- Each 2863 requires 14 disk drives of the same type (interface, capacity, and speed).
- This product is functional with the iSeries™ and OpenPower™ platforms. However, on the iSeries, support is available only on Power Linux and AIX partitions, not i5OS.
Planning information
Customer responsibilities: Physical configuration and installation planning for the 2863 is a customer responsibility. Information about physical configuration and installation requirements, including equipment, site, and power requirements, can be found in the Installation and Setup Instructions for the IBM TotalStorage N3700 and EXP600 Expansion Unit (GA32-0517).
A customer-supplied Ethernet cable is required to connect the machine to a server or Ethernet network.
Cable orders: Fibre Channel cables are required to connect a Model 001 expansion unit to a 2863 system. Cables can be purchased using Model 001 features.
Installability: Estimated time to unpack a Model 001, A10, or A20, install it in the rack, and perform a simple discovery and configuration is one hour.

Warranty period: Three years
Warranty service: If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service depending on the types of warranty service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone, or electronically via an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. If applicable to your product, parts considered Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) will be provided as part of the machine's standard warranty service.
Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of warranty service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information. This product is covered by the following types of service: Customer Replaceable Unit Service and On-site Service for other selected parts.
Customer Replaceable Unit Service: IBM provides replacement CRUs to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request. CRUs are designated as being either a Tier 1 or a Tier 2 CRU.
Tier 1 CRU
Installation of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
For machines with on-site same-day response service, IBM will replace a Tier 1 CRU part at your request, at no additional charge.
Tier 2 CRU
You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or request IBM to install it, at no additional charge.
Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next business day delivery. IBM specifies, in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU, whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM. When return is required, (1) return instructions and a container are shipped with the replacement CRU and (2) you may be charged for the replacement CRU if IBM does not receive the defective CRU within 30 days of your receipt of the replacement.
The following parts have been designated as Tier 1 CRU parts:

On-site Service: IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well lit, and suitable for the purpose.
- 9 hours per day, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, next-business-day response
Warranty service upgrades: During the warranty period, warranty service upgrades provide an enhanced level of On-site Service for an additional charge. A warranty service upgrade must be purchased during the warranty period and is for a fixed term (duration). It is not refundable or transferable and may not be prorated. If required, IBM will provide the warranty service upgrade enhanced level of On-site Service acquired by the customer. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed.
IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone or electronically by access to an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability.
On-site Service: IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well lit, and suitable for the purpose. The following service selections are available as warranty upgrades for your machine type.

Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) may be provided as part of the machine's standard warranty CRU Service except that you may install a CRU yourself or request IBM installation, at no additional charge, under one of the On-site Service levels specified above. For additional information on the CRU service, refer to the warranty information.
Maintenance services: If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service depending on the types of maintenance service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone or electronically, via an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of maintenance service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information. The following service selections are available as maintenance options for your machine type.
On-site Service: IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well lit, and suitable for the purpose.
- 9 hours per day, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, next-business-day response, IOR
- 9 hours per day, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, 4 hour average response, IOR
- 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 4-hour average response, IOR
- 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 2-hour average response, IOR
Customer Replaceable Units: If your problem can be resolved with a CRU (for example, keyboard, mouse, speaker, memory, or hard disk drive), and depending upon the maintenance service offerings in your geography, IBM will ship the CRU to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request.
Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next business day delivery. IBM specifies, in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU, whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM. When return is required, (1) return instructions and a container are shipped with the replacement CRU and (2) you may be charged for the replacement CRU if IBM does not receive the defective CRU within 30 days of your receipt of the replacement.
Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) may be provided as part of the machine's standard maintenance service except that you may install a CRU yourself or request IBM installation, at no additional charge, under any of the On-site Service levels specified above.

When a type of service involves the exchange of a machine part, the replacement may not be new, but will be in good working order.

Licensed Machine Code: This product contains, or is provided together with, code which is licensed to the user, not sold. That code is copyrighted and may be the property of IBM, its supplier(s), or other third parties. You are authorized to use the code to the extent set forth in the applicable license agreement(s) provided with the product. You may also obtain a copy of applicable license agreement by contacting your IBM representative.
Current license terms for the machine code provided with this product prohibit transfer of the machine code without approval from Network Appliance.
Educational allowance: A reduced charge is available to qualified education customers. The educational allowance may not be added to any other discount or allowance.
