Model 810 and 825 iSeries for Domino:
Every business needs at least one e-mail server.
What happens if you need more than one server to handle your hundreds or
thousands of users?
How do you handle the demand for instant messaging, shared-access team
rooms, and collaborative applications?
If you dedicate a server to each and every application, you probably are
going to face the spiraling operational costs of a server farm.
iSeries for Domino is a different kind of server. It is a server
dedicated to running and managing multiple applications together. With
its built-in subsystem and logical partitioning technology, iSeries for
Domino separates mail, instant messaging, and collaborative applications
while automatically balancing and adjusting performance. With its proven
iSeries reputation for robust reliability, iSeries for Domino helps you
keep your applications available and your users happy. iSeries for
Domino supports OS/400 V5.2, Lotus Domino, Sametime, QuickPlace,
iNotes, and other Lotus solutions.

* The MCU ratings reflect the capabilities of the processor
features. Supporting this number of users would require
additional memory and disk, above the minimum amounts
included in the basic configurations.
Mail and Calendar Users (MCU): This relative performance measurement is
derived by performing mail and calendar functions using Domino and
Notes® clients. Mail and calendar workload is significantly more
complex than Simple Mail Users, another measured workload sometimes
quoted. The MCU workload represents users on a Notes client reading,
updating, or deleting documents in an e-mail database, as well as lookups
in the Domino Directory, scheduling calendar appointments, and
invitations. Reported values reflect 70% processor utilization to allow
for growth and peak loads in excess of customer workload estimates.
The server features used for iSeries for Domino specify the minimum
amount of disk, memory, and Domino licenses required for an initial
order. Customers will be required to provide proof of Lotus software
licenses. For additional information, click on:
Capacity on Demand (permanent and temporary)
Every iSeries 825, 870, or 890 comes with extra processor capacity built into the server. This
extra capacity, available as stand-by processors, can be activated permanently or temporarily.
IBM eServer Capacity Upgrade on Demand (permanent) lets you grow processor capacity as your needs
grow.
IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand (temporary**) provides great flexibility in meeting the peak
demands of your dynamic business.
** This may also be referred to by IBM as Temporary Capacity Upgrade on Demand, Temporary Capacity
on Demand, On/Off Capacity Upgrade on Demand, or On/Off Capacity on Demand.

Permanent Capacity:
Processor activation features make available the extra processor capacity you need. When one
or more activation feature is ordered, an activation code is generated and shipped to you (mailed
and posted on the Web).
Key the activation code (think of it as a capacity key) into the proper server screen, and your
newly activated processors are ready to use. No IPL is required. Assign the permanently activated
processors to a partition before use, whether your machine is configured for LPAR or not.
Ordering Permanent Capacity
Once you decide to permanently activate some of your stand-by processors, you can contact your
business partner or IBM representative to order a quantity of processor-on-demand (POD) activation
features.

unique to your server. The POD activation code is mailed to you and also posted at:
-
New server orders or orders for model-to-model upgrades that result in a
new footprint (no vital product data required):
For new server purchases or upgrades to a Model 825, 870, or 890,
you can include activation features on the order and have stand-by
processors activated before the server is shipped. This allows you to
customize the performance characteristics of the server.
-
Processor conversions, package conversions, or model-to-model upgrades
that do not result in a new footprint (no vital product data required):
For these orders, you can include activation features on the order and
have your activation code mailed/posted to the Web so it is ready to
enter when you have completed your hardware upgrade. You don't need to
order a separate MES to permanently activate extra processor capacity as
part of a field upgrade for hardware.
-
Orders for activation features (no vital product data required):
For orders that do not contain a processor or package features, you do
not need to send vital product data to IBM manufacturing before the order
for activation features can be scheduled and fulfilled.
Additional Information:
Step-by-step directions for ordering activation features and the
subsequent entering of activation codes can be reviewed in the iSeries
Capacity on Demand Planning Guide found at:
Temporary Capacity
-
Can be turned on/off to match your peak periods
-
Allows you to request a variable number of days and a variable number of
processors
-
Use processor days of credit (no additional charge) for several purposes
-
Be productive immediately ... no IPL, no ordering, no waiting
For more information about contracts, registration, and enablement, go
to:
Temporary Capacity Enablement
Before requesting temporary capacity on your server, you must "enable"
your server. To do this, order a TCoD Enablement Feature (MES only) and
sign the required contracts. The following TCoD enablement features are
available:
Processor Enablement
Model Feature Feature
825 2473 1773
870 2486 1776
890 2497 1777
890 2498 1778
IBM will generate a TCoD enablement code, mail it to you, and post it on
the Web for you to retrieve and enter on your server.
A TCoD enablement code lets you request up to 192 processor days of
temporary capacity. This means, you can make requests for temporary
capacity over the life of the machine as long you don't exceed 192
processor days. When the limit is reached, a new TCoD enablement feature
must be ordered, and a new TCoD enablement code must be entered. Every
time a new TCoD enablement code is entered it will reset the limit of
processor days that can be requested to 192.
Enable: Step-by-Step
Temporary Capacity Requests
When you need temporary capacity, simply go to the temporary capacity
screen on the server and specify how many of the stand-by (not activated)
processors you would like temporarily activated and for how many days you
would like them activated.
You will be billed for the processor days you request, so it is important
to assign the processors to a partition as soon as they are activated to
get the full benefit of the temporary capacity.
At the end of the temporary period (days you requested), you must make
the temporarily activated processors "available" (LPAR state) to be
reclaimed by the server, or you will be billed for any unreturned
processor days (per the contract you signed).
Request: Step-by-Step
-
Customer goes to temporary capacity screen on the server and specifies
the amount and duration of temporary capacity desired (for example,
quantity of processors for a duration of days).
-
Customer presses enter, to confirm the request, and the capacity is
activated.
-
Customer assigns the temporary capacity to a partition (whether or not
the machine is configured for LPAR) to begin using temporary capacity.
Temporary Capacity Billing
The contract, signed by the customer before receiving the enablement
code, requires the customer to report billing data at least once a month
(whether there is activity or not). This data is used to determine the
proper amount to bill the customer at the end of each TCoD billing period
(calendar quarter).
Processor days of credit will be applied against any requested and/or
unreturned processor days of temporary capacity. This will happen
automatically, until they are used.
Failure to report billing data during a billing quarter will result in a
bill for 90 days of temporary capacity.
The sales channel will be notified of customer requests for temporary
capacity. As a result, the sales channel is required to place an order
for a quantity of TCoD billing features (one feature equals one processor
day). The following TCoD billing features are available:

Bill: Step-by-Step
-
Customer must report billing data (requested and unreturned processor
days) at a minimum of once per month either electronically or via fax
(stated requirement in the signed contract).
-
At the end of each billing period (calendar quarter), IBM will process
the reported data collected in the IBM database (MRPD), and notify the
sales channel of any activity, so the proper billing can take place.
-
Sales channel places an order for a quantity of TCoD billing features
(one billing feature for each processor day).
-
IBM will ship a billing notice (notifies customer of billing actions) to
the ship-to address on the order as part of the fulfillment process.
-
Customer pays the sales channel and the sales channel pays IBM for the
fulfillment of the TCoD billing features.
New PCI-X Based I/O Features and 15K rpm Disk Units
New HSL-attached PCI I/O towers/units supersede the existing HSL-attached PCI I/O towers/units for
any Model 270, 820, 830, or 840 running V5.2, or later, or any Model 800, 810, 825, 870,
and 890.
The new I/O towers leverage PCI-X technology and 15K rpm disk drive technology that can offer
improved performance. The new #5094 has the same number of PCI slots and disk unit positions as the
existing #5074. The new #5088 has the same number of PCI slots as the existing #5078. The new
#5095 offers twice the disk drive slots as the existing #5075.
The new 15K rpm disk drives offer greater rotational speed and other performance efficiencies
compared to the 10K rpm disk drives. They are supported by V5.2, or later, and offered with either
35.16 GB or 70.56 GB capacity. As always, you should buy both an adequate number disk arms as well
as adequate disk capacity to meet your requirements. These 15K rpm drives can only be used in a new
PCI-X I/O tower, or inside the Model 800, 810, 825, 870, or 890 system unit.
The newest PCI-X Ultra DASD controller offers much greater throughput or performance than any
earlier iSeries DASD controller. It has a much larger cache and is by far the best match for 15K
rpm disk drive configurations, especially if more than four or five 15K rpm drives are attached to
the controller. The new controller can also improve 10K rpm disk subsystem throughput, especially
if there is high disk utilization.
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
iSeries Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890 are capable as of January 24, 2003, when used
in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product
properly interoperates with it.
Feature Descriptions
Features and Specify Codes for Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890
Feature Notes
Features can be added and removed from iSeries servers by ordering new features, removing
existing features, or doing feature conversions, if available. Some of these features may be
withdrawn over time. Check with your IBM representative for current availability.
Feature
conversions
are used when it is necessary to physically change an installed feature. New parts will be
shipped, and, unless otherwise noted, the removed or replaced parts become the property of IBM.
The
addition
of a new feature and
removal
of an installed feature does not involve any credit. Unless otherwise specified, a removed feature
remains the property of the customer. Feature removals not associated with a model upgrade or
feature conversion may be subject to a charge.
System Configuration
All system units and expansion units have locations for features including processors, main storage,
power, expansion, disks, tapes, CD/DVDs, and IOPs. Some restrictions may apply to certain
combinations of features. The configurator contains the rules and performance considerations for
placement of these features, and should be used to ensure a valid configuration. The use of
performance tools may also help in optimizing a configuration to match a specific set of
requirements.
Customer Setup (CSU) Features
Some features are designated CSU. On MES orders where all features are CSU, the customer installs
all features. IBM installation is available for a charge, under normal service contracts. On MES
orders that contain a mix of IBM and CSU features, the customer may choose to have the IBM service
representative install all features (including those designated as CSU).

Disk Protection
Mirrored System Disk Level Protection (#0040):
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk units are not ordered to support
device-level
mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation
of the upgrade if sufficient disk units are not available. Feature #0040 requires all disk units to
be placed into mirrored pairs. The load source must be controlled by the first disk controller and
must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached to the first disk controller. Minimum number of
disks allowed on a system: two.
Device Parity Protection-All (#0041):
Causes the order to fail if a non-RAID configuration is ordered. This is the default specify
code for data protection. Feature #0041 requires all internal disk units be placed into RAID arrays
using a RAID capable disk controller. The rules for RAID can be found in the disk controller
descriptions. All external disk units must be RAID capable.
Mirrored System IOP Level Protection (#0042):
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk units and IOPs are not included on the order to
support
IOP-level
mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation
of the upgrade if sufficient disk units and IOPs are not available. Feature #0042 requires all disk
units to be placed into mirrored pairs. Each mirrored pair of disk units must be on separate disk
unit IOP. The load source must be controlled by the first disk controller and must be mirrored to a
like disk unit also attached to the first disk controller. (#0040 protection). Minimum number of
disks allowed on a system: four.
Mirrored System BUS Level Protection (#0043):
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk units, IOPs, and expansion units are not included
on the order to support
bus-level
mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of
the upgrade if sufficient disk units, IOPs, and expansion units are not available.
Feature #0043 requires all disk units to be placed into mirrored pairs. Each mirrored pair of disk
units must be on separate busses. The load source must be controlled by the first disk controller
and must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached to the first disk controller (#0040
protection). Minimum number of disks allowed on a system: four.

Software Preload
Software Preload Required (#5000):
Indicates that preloaded software and/or consolidated I/O is shipped with the initial order. A
maximum of one (#5000) is supported. This feature has country-specific usage.
Software Version V5.2 (#5029):
#5029 is required on all new orders and upgrades to Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890.
Miscellaneous
Customer Install MES (#0002):
This code drives translated customer installation instructions, MES package labeling, and
indicates that an IBM CE should not automatically be dispatched to install the MES. The order
configurators will place this specify on orders when required.
Notify CSO After Install (#0003):
Indicates that IBM service involvement is required to install an MES. This feature drives
service installation instructions, MES package labeling, and indicates that IBM service should be
dispatched to install the MES.
Bulk Order Indicator (#0005):
This specify code is used by manufacturing applications to determine the correct number of
additional hardware items (for example, wrist straps) to include on a bulk MES order.
LPAR Restrict Build Process (#0006):
Added to an initial order system where logical partitioning (LPAR)(#0140) is requested. This
code instructs manufacturing to only load SLIC on the minimum number of DASD files (that is, do not
spread across all available DASD units. Mutually exclusive with #5000 SW Preload, or any solution
developer preloads.
Prerequisite: #0140 (Logical Partitioned System). Maximum: One.
Logical Partitioning Specify (#0140):
#0140 is used to specify that this system will be logically partitioned. The configurator will
add a quantity of one #0140 to the order for each logical partition running OS/400®.
Initial system orders and model upgrade orders containing this specify will ship without RAID or
mirroring enabled.
HSL OptiConnect Specify (#0141):
#0141 specifies that this system will be part of a cluster using HSL OptiConnect. This code
allows additional HSL cables to be ordered for the OptiConnect systems.
Linux Partition Specify (#0142):
#0142 is used to specify that this system will be logically partitioned with a Linux partition.
The configurators will add a quantity of one #0142 to the order for each Linux partition required.
Linux direct-attached features are only allowed within a Linux partition. Linux direct-attached
features are not allowed in OS/400 partitions.
There are no minimum number of Linux direct-attached features required per Linux partition. A Linux
partition can exist without any Linux direct-attached features in it. iSeries will provide virtual
I/O for Linux partitions without any Linux direct attach features.
Prerequisite: #0140, Logical Partitioning Specify.
RISC-to-RISC Data Migration (#0205):
Used on initial orders for Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890, to designate that the new
server will replace (not upgrade) an installed AS/400 (RISC) model.
When #0205 is on the order, manufacturing will only load SLIC and up through QSYS of OS/400. This
will facilitate migrating some of the OS/400 information from the installed system. In addition to
the new server, enough DASD must be ordered to hold all the data from the current model, as well as
the required software on the new server. Specify Code #5000 (SW Preload Required) is mutually
exclusive with #0205.
The migration process requires that the installed model be at the same version and release level of
OS/400 and other licensed programs as the new server. Financial considerations of upgrades to the
installed software should be reviewed as part of the migration planning.
More information, and an updated AS/400 System Upgrade and Data Migration Road Map (RISC-RISC) are
available at:
Select language and V5.2 then Installation, upgrades, and migration.
Token-Ring Specify (#0223):
Indicates that a #2744 100/16/4 Mbps Token-Ring adapter is being
used on an integrated xSeries server. For each #2744 used on an
integrated server, one #0223 is required.
Ethernet Specify (#0224):
Indicates that a #4838 100/10 Mbps Ethernet adapter is being used on
an integrated xSeries server. For each #4838 used on an integrated
Server, one #0224 is required.
1 Gbps Ethernet Specify (#0225):
Indicates that a #2743/#2760 1 Gbps Ethernet adapter is being used
on an integrated xSeries server. For each #2743/#2760 used on an
integrated server, one #0225 is required.
1 Gbps Ethernet Specify (#0226):
Indicates that a #5700/#5701 1 Gbps Ethernet adapter is being used
on an integrated xSeries server. One #0226 is required for each #5700 or
#5701 used.
#5094 Equivalent (#0694):
For each #5294 ordered, the configurator will add two #0694 specify
codes. Feature #0694s may be added to, or deleted from system inventory
records, but at least one #0694 must exist for each #5294 on the
inventory records. If an existing #5294 is to be shared between two
systems, one #0694 must be removed from the system that the #5294 was
ordered against, and one #0694 must be added to the other sharing system.
For each #8094 ordered, default a quantity of one #0694 specify code on
the order. If the top unit of the #8094 will not attach to the same
system as the lower unit, #0694 must be added to the system which has the
upper unit attached. These adds and deletes are done as record purpose
only (RPO) changes.
Load Source Specify Codes:
Order one of the following load source specify codes for each new or
upgrade order. These specifies can be changed at any time.
-
#0826 #4314 Load Source Specify
-
#0827 #4324 Load Source Specify

System Unique Identifier (#1311):
After 255 scratch installs, the system ID counter wraps and a new
system ID must be created. Feature #1311 can be ordered as an MES to
regenerate a customer's system ID.
Customer Solution Center (#5001):
Indicates that a machine is to be routed to the Customer Solution
Center at time of manufacture. Multiple #5001s are allowed on the
records. This feature has country-specific usage.
AS/400 CDSC-Rochester MFG (#5002):
Indicates that machine is to be routed to the CDSC. This feature
has country-specific usage.
Base POD Activation (#9603):
This specify code is used on Models 870 and 890 to activate one
additional processor with a Capacity on Demand processor feature as part
of a package on initial order.
Base HSL-2 Ports 2 Copper (#9787):
This base feature provides two copper HSL-2 ports on the
Model 825.

-
#3093 512 MB Main Storage
-
#3094 1 GB Main Storage
-
#3096 2 GB Main Storage
A single main storage DIMM feature is allowed on these processors. When the total number of main
storage DIMMs is increased greater than one, the single existing DIMM must be paired up (with a DIMM
of the same capacity) and any additional DIMMs must be added in pairs of the same capacity.
There are eight memory DIMM slots available in the base system for main storage DIMMs which plug
directly onto the backplane.
Model 810
Memory Features for #2466 and #2467 Processors:
-
#3092 256 MB Main Storage
-
#3093 512 MB Main Storage
-
#3094 1 GB Main Storage
-
#3096 2 GB Main Storage
A single main storage DIMM feature is allowed on these processors. When the total number of main

of the same capacity) and any additional DIMMs must be added in pairs of the same capacity.
There are eight memory DIMM slots available in the base system for main storage DIMMs which plug
directly onto the backplane.
Memory Features for #2469 Processor:
-
#3022 128 MB Main Storage
-
#3024 256 MB Main Storage
-
#3025 512 MB Main Storage (#3025 cannot be mixed with #3026 for pairing or quad-ing)
-
#3026 512 MB Main Storage (#3026 cannot be mixed with #3025 for pairing or quad-ing)
-
#3027 1 GB Main Storage
-
#3029 128 MB Main Storage (#3029 cannot be mixed with #3022 for pairing or quad-ing).
A minimum of two DIMMs (same feature code) must be selected. If more than two DIMMs are required,
all memory features MUST be in sets of four (quads) (this means making a quad out of the initial two
DIMMs also). Maximum of 16 of these DIMM features allowed on a system.
Model 825
-
#3042 256 MB Main Storage
-
#3043 512 MB Main Storage
-
#3044 1024 MB Main Storage
-
#3046 2048 MB Main Storage
Valid memory capacity for the Model 825 is from 2 GB to 48 GB. Typically at least 3 GB of
memory is recommended. With only 2 GB of memory configured, variable performance and a measurable
CPU performance degradation may be experienced. This may not be of concern in environments where
perhaps there is low peak CPU utilization. Use the configurator to appropriately select up to 24
memory features plugged in blocks of four identical memory features.
Model 870
-
#3020 4 GB Main Storage
-
#3015 8 GB Main Storage
-
#3035 16 GB Main Storage
-
#3017 32 GB Main Storage
Valid memory capacity for the Model 870 is from 8 GB to 128 GB. Use the configurator to
appropriately select up to four memory features.
Model 890
-
#3020 4 GB Main Storage
-
#3021 4 GB Main Storage
-
#3015 8 GB Main Storage
-
#3016 8 GB Main Storage
-
#3017 32 GB Main Storage
-
#3018 32 GB Main Storage
-
#3035 16 GB Main Storage
-
#3036 16 GB Main Storage
Valid memory capacities for the 24-way and 16/24-way processors are: 8(1), 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 64,
80, 96, 128, 160 and 192 GB. Valid memory configurations for the 32-way and 24-/32-way are: 16(1),
24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224 and 256 GB.
The smallest memory capacities (1) are not recommended for most customer configurations. These two
special points should be used only when variable performance and a measurable CPU performance
degradation is not of concern, perhaps in environments where there is low peak CPU utilization. Use
the configurator to appropriately select up to six memory features for the 24-way or 16-/24-way
processors, or up to eight memory features for the 32-way or 24-/32-way processors.

PCI-X Ultra RAID Disk Controller (#2757):
This feature is a PCI-X SCSI controller with a maximum compressed write cache of 757 MB. #2757
provides RAID-5 protection for internal disks and also supports internal tape units, CD-ROM and
DVD-RAM. The #2757 has four SCSI buses that support up to 18 disk units. Hardware data compression
is not supported.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for disks, #2757 is also a high-performance controller
for disks protected by system mirroring or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration,
disk unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater performance than
system checksums.
A minimum of three disk units of the same capacity are needed for a valid RAID-5 configuration. A
maximum of six arrays are allowed per controller, with a maximum of 18 disk units allowed per array.
All disk units in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across either two, four,
eight, or sixteen disk units in an array. If an array of three disk units is started, parity is
spread across two disk units. If an array of four to seven disk units is started, parity is spread
across four disk units. If an array of eight to fifteen disk units is started, parity is spread
across eight disk units. If an array of 16 to 18 disk units is started, parity is spread across 16
disk units. The number of arrays and size of each array can be influenced by specifying an
optimization of either balance, performance, or capacity in Operations Navigator when starting
arrays. An optimization of balance is the default when starting arrays from the green screens. If
disk units are included into an existing array, parity may be spread across less than the preferred
number of disk units. In this case the RAID function must be stopped and started to redistribute
the parity.
Feature #2757 controls up to two removable media devices (internal tape, CD-ROM, DVD).
This feature requires OS/400 V5.2, plus updates. Refer to Informational APAR II13440 at:
PCI Fibre Channel DASD Controller (#2766):
Feature #2766 provides Fibre Channel attachment capability for
external disk devices. The #2766 supports point-to-point and arbitrated
loop topologies. With OS/400 V5.2, Switch Fabric topology is also
supported. Each #2766 is shipped with a wrap connector (#05N6767).
Feature #0371 LC-SC Adapter Kit (50um) can be ordered, both on
initial and field upgrades. This optional kit is used to attach SC-type
fibre (50 micron) cables to a #2766. This kit contains a 2-m LC-ST cable
and ST-SC adapter for 50 micron fiber.
Feature #0372 LC-SC Adapter Kit (62.5um) can be ordered, both on
initial and field upgrades. This optional kit is used to attach SC-type
fibre (62.5 micron) cables to a #2766. This kit contains a 2-m LC-ST
cable and ST-SC adapter for 62.5 micron fiber.
An optics cleaning kit and instruction sheet are included when a
#2765/#2766 is ordered. Customers must supply all Fibre Channel cables
for this controller.
PCI-X RAID Disk Unit Controller (#2782):
Feature #2782 is a PCI-X SCSI controller with a 40 MB cache that
provides RAID-5 protection for internal disks and also supports internal
tape units, CD-ROM and DVD devices. Feature #2782 has two SCSI buses
that support up to 12 disk units. Hardware data compression is not
supported.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for disks, #2782 also works as
a high-performance controller for disks protected by system mirroring, or
disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk unit
protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater
performance than system checksums.
A minimum of three disk units of the same capacity are needed for a valid
RAID-5 configuration. A maximum of four arrays are allowed per
controller, with a maximum of 12 disk units allowed per array. All disk
units in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across
either two, four, or eight disk units in an array. If an array of three
disk units is started, parity is spread across two disk units. If an
array of four to seven disk units is started, parity is spread across
four disk units. If an array of eight to twelve disk units is started,
parity is spread across eight disk units. The number of arrays and size
of each array can be influenced by specifying an optimization of either
balance, performance, or capacity in Operations Navigator when starting
arrays. An optimization of balance is the default when starting arrays
from the green screens. If disk units are included into an existing
array, parity may be spread across less than the preferred number of disk
units. In this case the RAID function must be stopped and started to
redistribute the parity.
Feature #2782 controls up to two removable media devices (internal tape,
CD-ROM, or DVD)
This feature requires OS/400 V5.2, plus updates. Refer to Informational
APAR II13440 at:
PCI RAID Disk Unit Controller (#4778):
Feature #4778 is an Ultra2 SCSI controller with a maximum compressed
write cache size of 104 MB that provides RAID-5 protection and
compression (not on 70 GB disk units) for internal disks and also
supports internal tape units, CD-ROM, DVD-RAM and DVD-ROM units.
Feature #4778 supports both disk compression and enhanced modes. The
mode of operation is determined by a hardware jumper. #4778 is shipped
in enhanced mode, which enables compression of the write cache and
Extended Adaptive Cache (a read cache device is needed for Extended
Adaptive Cache, see below). By moving the hardware jumper the controller
will function in disk compression mode. Disk compression mode should
only be used when disk compression is desired.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for disks, #4778 also works as
a high-performance controller for disks protected by system mirroring, or
disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk unit
protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater
performance than system checksums.
The #4778 controller supports up to 15 disk units. A minimum of four
disk units of the same capacity are needed for a valid RAID-5
configuration. A maximum of four arrays are allowed per controller, with
a maximum of 10 disk units allowed per tray. All disk units in an array
must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across four disk units
for arrays of four to seven disk units. Parity can be spread across
either four or eight disk units for arrays of eight or ten disks. For
systems started with eight to ten disk units in an array the parity, for
that array, will be spread across eight disk units. For systems that are
started with less than eight disk units in the array and later increased
to eight, nine, or ten disk units, the RAID function must be stopped and
then started before the parity will be spread across eight disk units.
Refer to the
Disk Unit Table
for a list of disks that can be placed into RAID-5 arrays.
Feature #4778 controls up to two removable media devices (internal tape, CD, or DVD). Feature #4778
supports compression on 36 GB disk units.

PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor (#4801):
Feature #4801 provides a rich set of data encryption and
authentication services for applications requiring high security.
Cryptographic keys are stored in a tamper-resistant module on the
coprocessor. This feature is ideally suited for banking and financial
applications. However, with the tamper resistant-module the coprocessor
can be used to implement other advanced applications such as electronic
postage metering.
Application services provided by the coprocessor include:
-
Data encryption using Triple-DES (Data Encryption Standard)
-
Digital signature generation/verification using RSA public-key
cryptography
-
Data integrity checking using MD5 and SHA-1 secure hash algorithms
-

For more information, visit:
PCI Cryptographic Accelerator (#4805):
Feature #4805 provides improved performance for
high-transaction-rate secure Web applications which use the secure
sockets layer (SSL) or transport layer security (TLS) protocols. SSL/TLS
is the predominant method for securing Web transactions. Applications
using SSL/TLS include those transferring payment information (for
example, credit card numbers) over the Internet, for example, between a
Web browser and a server in the case of B2C, or between servers in the
case of B2B. Establishing SSL/TLS secure Web connections requires very
compute intensive cryptographic processing. Feature #4805 off-loads
cryptographic processing associated with the establishment of a SSL/TLS
session, thus freeing the server for other processing.
The Cryptographic Accelerator is targeted to high-transaction-rate secure
Web applications using SSL/TLS. If your application requires a FIPS
140-1 certified, tamper-resistant module for storing cryptographic keys
and/or requires financial PIN processing, then features #4801 or #4802,
Cryptographic Coprocessors should be your choice.
Note:
FIPS 140-1 is a U.S. Government National Institute of Standards &
Technology (NIST) administered standard and certification program for
cryptographic modules.
