The IBM Integrated xSeries Adapter for iSeries
provides a direct high-speed attachment of an IBM The Integrated xSeries Adapter, installed in select xSeries servers, extends iSeries integration with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server to xSeries high-performance n-way Intel architecture servers. With the Integrated xSeries Adapter, more Windows users and more complex Windows applications can be integrated with iSeries. Superior Integration The Integrated xSeries Adapter uniquely integrates standard iSeries and xSeries servers. Server, storage, and user management are consolidated on the iSeries server for up to 16 direct-attached xSeries servers, depending on iSeries model, with up to 2 TB of disk storage capacity per Windows Server. Managing multiple Windows 2000 Servers from a single iSeries can help to reduce your costs. Flex Your Application Options The direct-attached xSeries server is a standard Windows 2000 Server supporting a wide variety of Windows applications including:
You can deploy and manage applications easily with both OS/400® and Windows 2000 Server components. Key PrerequisitesiSeries system requirements

DescriptionThe Integrated xSeries Adapter, in conjunction with an xSeries server, extends iSeries integration with Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server to xSeries high-performance Intel servers. A PCI-based Integrated xSeries Adapter is placed in the IBM xSeries server to connect to the iSeries server via the High Speed Link (HSL) and System Power Control Network (SPCN). SPCN integrates the xSeries server into the iSeries power control architecture. HSL connects iSeries disks, CD-ROM, DVD, and tape drives to the xSeries server. When integrated with the iSeries, the xSeries server contains no hard drives. The xSeries 250, xSeries 350, Netfinity 7100, and Netfinity 7600 servers are supported in this configuration. PCI slots in the xSeries server add the flexibility to attach more feature devices; for example, modems and CD-ROM towers. Placing IXA into n-way xSeries servers as they become available allows the iSeries to take advantage of the xSeries currency with Intel processors. An xSeries server directly attached via the High-Speed Link to iSeries Models 8xx and 270 is operated just like today's Integrated xSeries Server. The xSeries server disks are housed in the iSeries, and its operations and backup can be integrated with OS/400 operations. The major difference with the Integrated xSeries Adapter is the scalability of the n-way xSeries servers. Also, it is housed in its own separate unit. Integration benefits:
The system maximum number of direct attach xSeries servers by model:
Maximums are in addition to the maximum number of I/O towers that can attach to these models. The maximum direct attach xSeries servers per HSL loop by model:

Security, Auditability, and ControliSeries servers use the security and auditability features of Operating System/400®. Use of these facilities is optional. The security measures supplied by OS/400 are designed to reduce the risk of users changing or destroying data resources, but do not prevent it. The OS/400 security features include the use of passwords, a security option to limit a user to only those functions provided by customer-designed menus, and a security option to limit read/write access for files, libraries, and folders during normal operations. To achieve increased security, the OS/400 controls should be combined with physical security, division of duties, and other appropriate measures. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
