IBM Implementation Services for Power Systems — AIX® V6.1 is designed to help you implement the latest version of the AIX operating system, thereby enabling you to realize its potential benefits. Implementing AIX V6.1 will enable you to use advanced security features and new virtualization approaches for availability such as the ability to relocate applications between systems without restarting the application. This service will also help you to make use of new and advanced features of the AIX operating system such as Workload Partitions (WPAR) and live Application Mobility Services. For your new POWER™ Systems servers, an on-site IBM specialist will assist you with the:

  • Planning
  • Installation
  • Configuration

IBM Migration Services for Power Systems — AIX V6.1 is also designed to help you plan and migrate your existing AIX 5L™ V5.3 to the new AIX V6.1 operating system. The service includes the following planning and migration activities:

  • Migration planning
    • Reviewing your requirements for migration
    • Understanding your applications and data
    • Creating a checklist of what data needs to be preserved during post migration
    • Listing activities that need to be done for preservation of data during post migration
    • Identifying the type of migration
    • Reviewing the compatibility of your hardware and application software with AIX V6
    • Reviewing required patches to be installed to deploy the application
    • Listing the post migration tasks that need to be completed
    • Creating the verification checklist to determine a successful migration
  • Prerequisites planning
    • Verify that critical data backup is available and ready to be restored
    • Verify that all application customization and configuration is backed up
    • Verify AIX install media
  • Migration activities
    • Create the steps to be followed for migration
    • Create the options to choose during migration
    • Perform post migration configuration
