Overview
Bottom rule

Sterling Secure Proxy and Sterling Connect:Direct belong to the IBM Managed File Transfer suite of products that are designed to provide secure, compliant, and reliable business-to-business file transfer solutions.

Organizations rely on secure, compliant, and consistent file transfers to support key business processes. Increasingly, organizations demand fast, dependable, data exchange regardless of data size. IBM Sterling Secure Proxy and IBM High-Speed Add-on for Connect:Direct provide support for the FASP transport technology to offer significantly faster file transmissions for IBM Sterling Connect:Direct distributed and IBM z™ /OS nodes.

Sterling Connect:Direct is managed file transfer software designed and optimized for high-volume, secure, reliable delivery of files between systems, and is offered on z/OS and distributed platforms.

Sterling Secure Proxy focuses on securing the edge of the enterprise network, where file transfers move from the public Internet to an organization's trusted zone. It helps define the standard in network edge security through a demilitarized zone (DMZ)-based authentication, protocol inspection, and secure socket layer (SSL) session breaks that help protect trusted systems from unauthorized external access.

Sterling Secure Proxy V3.4.3 now offers a new, high-speed bridging function that supports FASP transport protocol for Sterling Connect:Direct z/OS nodes. To take advantage of FASP support for z/OS nodes, the following is required:

  • Sterling Connect:Direct for z/OS, V5.2, or later with APAR PI55433.
  • High-Speed Add-on for Connect:Direct to support FASP on every z/OS node (enabled through the purchase of High-Speed Add-on for Connect:Direct). A limited Sterling Secure Proxy license is included with the High-Speed Add-on entitlement to support FASP through the high-speed bridging function on the proxy server.

Sterling Secure Proxy V3.4.3 adds FASP support for Sterling Connect:Direct  distributed nodes using FASP. To take advantage of FASP support for distributed nodes, the following is required:

  • Sterling Connect:Direct with the iFix for FASP support on Linux™ V4.2, IBM AIX® V4.2, or Microsoft™ Windows™ V4.7
  • High-Speed Add-on for Connect:Direct to support FASP on every distributed node (enabled through the purchase of High-Speed Add-on for Connect:Direct)
  • Sterling Secure Proxy V3.4.3 on a FASP -supported platform: Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), or SUSE Enterprise Linux Server (SLES)

Note: Support for the FASP protocol that is integrated with Sterling Connect:Direct and Sterling Secure Proxy is not the same as support for native FASP protocol in Aspera®. References to FASP in this announcement do not indicate interoperability with native FASP support and Aspera software products. Native FASP protocol is not supported.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
