IBM Tivoli Storage Manager

Tivoli Storage Manager has been a scalable and available data protection solution since its inception. Tivoli Storage Manager V7.1 introduces both new and improved data protection and management capabilities, and provides IT administrators with the tools to help meet more stringent service level requirements and help reduce the overall costs of maintaining and protecting the data in these complex environments.

Licensing metric definitions

Client Device

Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single user computing device or special purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device which runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores for the systems on which the resources managed or processed by the program reside.

Terabyte

Terabyte is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each terabyte of storage available to the program.

IBM System Storage Archive Manager terabyte capacity

IBM System Storage Archive Manager terabyte capacity includes primary disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized primary removable media storage used by the IBM System Storage Archive Manager server.

Capacity does not include:

A virtual tape library (VTL) is considered a removable media device, so capacity is based on utilization.

The minimum amount of capacity that can be purchased is 1 terabyte.

Partial capacity will be rounded up to the next whole number of terabytes.

Additional capacity must be added in increments of 1 terabyte.

Tiered Terabytes (1-12), (13-32), (33-64), (65-100), (101-250), (251+)

Terabyte (1-12), Terabyte (13-32), Terabyte (33-64), Terabyte (65-100), Terabyte (101-250), and Terabyte (251+) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) are based on the number of terabytes available to the program. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements required for licensee's environment. The entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with entitlements of another program.

Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain terabyte entitlements for the program sufficient to cover the storage managed by the program.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery terabyte capacity

Tiered Terabytes (1-100), (101-250), (251-500), (501-750), (751-1,250), (1,251-2,000), (2001+)

Terabyte (1-100), Terabyte (101-250), Terabyte (251-500), Terabyte (501-750), Terabyte (751-1,250), Terabyte (1,251-2,000), Terabyte (2,001+) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. PoEs are based on the number of terabytes available to the program. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements required for licensee's environment. The entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with entitlements of another program.

Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain terabyte entitlements for the program sufficient to cover the storage managed by the program.

For Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery, licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements required for all data stored in the designated Tivoli Storage Manager primary storage pool volumes and for all data stored in the designated Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack repository volumes.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery - Archive Option terabyte capacity

Entitlements for the new Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery - Archive Option component apply only to data classified as archive data within Tivoli Storage Manager that results from running an archive operation, and the data must reside on tape or VTL within the primary storage pool. An archive operation is designated either via the Tivoli Storage Manager's user interface itself or through Tivoli Storage Manager's application programming interface (API). Data stored on virtual tape appears to Tivoli Storage Manager as physical tape. The Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery - Archive Option price applies to the capacity level recognized by Tivoli Storage Manager (which equates to the amount of data sent to the virtual tape). Subsequent deduplication of data within a VTL does not reduce the capacity level recognized by Tivoli Storage Manager.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery - ProtecTIER® Option Terabyte capacity

Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the total aggregate usable physical capacity of all the IBM ProtecTIER repositories that are available to the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager primary storage pool, excluding the capacity for Disaster Recovery sites used for replication only.

References to processor-based licensing do not represent the actual number of entitlements required. Entitlement requirements are Value Unit based. Entitlement for Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows is based on the TB capacity being space managed (migrated). Capacity is defined as the primary HSM disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized HSM removable media storage pool. Storage pools are configured on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server. The minimum amount of capacity that can be purchased is 1 TB. Partial capacity will be rounded up to the next whole number of TB. Additional capacity must be added in multiples of 1 TB. Capacity does not include:

Scenario 1

A customer wants to space manage 4.25 TB of files from six Microsoft Windows file servers. This means 4.25 TB of files will be migrated from their current location to the Tivoli Storage Manager server's primary HSM storage pools. The migrated files will be replaced with references to the original file. The data in the primary HSM storage pools will be copied for off-site protection to a copy pool. The customer has designated 0.25 TB of disk for an HSM disk storage pool, 4 TB for a HSM removable media storage pool, and 6 TB of removable media for a copy storage pool.

If a customer has IBM ProtecTIER with a total aggregate usable physical capacity, excluding any capacity for disaster recovery sites used for replication only, of 20 TB that they will use as part of their Tivoli Storage Manager primary storage pool, they require PoEs of 20 TB of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery ProtecTIER Option, regardless of the amount utilized. So for example, in the case where the IBM ProtecTIER has a total physical capacity available of 20 TB and the customer has 10 TB stored, the licensing requirement is for 20 TB.

Note: Entitlements for Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recover - ProtecTIER Option and Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery standard tiers are not interchangeable and are separately licensed.

Pricing example for Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery Entry

Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery Entry supports a combined maximum of 100 TB per enterprise in the designated Tivoli Storage Manager primary storage pool volumes and for all data stored in the designated Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack repository volumes. In addition, a maximum of two Tivoli Storage Manager servers are supported per enterprise.

If a customer has 10 TB in their Tivoli Storage Manager primary storage pool and 10 TB in their Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack repository, the customer requires PoEs of 20 TB of Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery Entry.

If a customer reaches the maximum of 100 TB under management and foresees the need for more licenses, the customer will require a trade up to Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery (5724-Z12).

If a customer requires more than two Tivoli Storage Manager servers, the customer will require a trade up to Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery (5724-Z12).

Ordering information for Passport Advantage

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S) renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance). Software Subscription and Support in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) will renew at the common anniversary date for twelve full months of Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Support Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Order handling

IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager V4.1 (5608-ACB) may be ordered through existing channels using the existing configurator and ordering tools. However, the fulfillment processes have been modified to improve customer records management associated with Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S), often referred to as Software Maintenance. SW S&S will be entitled through Passport Advantage.

5608-ACB, when selected during configuration process with each hardware system, will be enabled for electronic download for the system unit for which the product was ordered. Optionally, software and license only configurations can be created for 5608-ACB based on existing supported hardware system units in your business environment. 5608-ACB is available exclusively via electronic download.

After receipt of an order, you will be required to register for, and accept, Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express terms and conditions. Upon registration, you will be provided with a website for the electronic download.

Passport Advantage allows greater flexibility to help you manage software licenses and Subscription and Support renewals. You can now have a common anniversary date for Subscription and Support renewals. The anniversary date, established at the order ship date for the initial product acquisition, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express agreement remains in effect.

To order a basic license, specify the program number and the one-time charge feature number in the quantity desired (maximum quantity of 250).

The program is available via electronic download only. Physical media can be ordered via Passport Advantage once entitled.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and PoE govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by the customer and IBM. The customer's business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM.

More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
