IBM® Retail Store Server Editions now include the Liberty profile, a simplified and lightweight runtime for web applications. Fast restart times coupled with its small size and ease of use make the Liberty profile a practical option for deploying web applications that do not require the full Java™ Enterprise Edition ( Java EE) environment of traditional enterprise application server profiles. The Liberty profile may also be used for production servers where minimizing resource utilization is a primary requirement.

With WebSphere® Remote Server V8.5 and its components, you get updated bundles with the latest versions or fix packs of:

WebSphere MQ Telemetry, WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer Agent, and WebSphere MQ Advanced Message Security are optionally installable features of WebSphere MQ and are available as add-on licenses for Retail Store Server Starter Edition, Retail Store Server Starter Edition with Informix Database, Retail Store Server Advanced Edition, and Retail Store Server Advanced Edition with Informix Database Edition in a retail environment.

WebSphere Remote Server V8.5 includes licensing changes for WebSphere MQ Telemetry Client.

Tivoli Provisioning Manager continues to include Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management (TEM) built on Big Fix technology. It streamlines IT operational tasks with a lightweight, single-agent, single-console framework.

Because the retail store environment is rapidly changing and the need for additional capabilities at the store level is growing, a flexible architecture is even more critical in today's fast moving technology. WebSphere Remote Server provides a scalable and flexible platform for integrating new and innovative technologies into your retail distributed environment. WebSphere Remote Server features several Retail Store Server Editions that are designed specifically for remote environments to deliver reliable operations with robust security features and centralized management of enterprise technologies across networks of several to thousands of locations and devices. IBM Retail Store Server software is a leading service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform that can extend the enterprise to the remote location. It provides rapid access to web-based services and legacy applications across the enterprise.

WebSphere Remote Server components provide a proven, high-performance transaction environment that can help you build, run, integrate, and manage dynamic business applications for your store environment.

WebSphere sMash feature is removed from WebSphere Remote Server V8.5.

New in Version 8.5

Enhancements to Retail Store Server Starter Edition, Retail Store Server Starter Edition with Informix Database, Retail Store Server Advanced Edition, and Retail Store Server Advanced Edition with Informix Database V8.5, include:

WebSphere MQ Telemetry Client, WebSphere MQ Telemetry Advanced Client, WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer Agent, and WebSphere MQ Advanced Message Security capabilities are included in WebSphere MQ V7.5, but require additional licenses.

WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus Retail Store Edition is not included in this version. If you need WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus functionality you should continue to use earlier versions of WebSphere Remote Server.

Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for Retail Store Server V8.5 is refreshed and includes:

Tivoli Provisioning Manager V7.2.1 continues to include Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management (TEM) built on BigFix technology. It addresses the management challenges of distributed environments with real-time visibility and advanced functionality. Within a store environment through a single infrastructure, single agent, and single console for systems lifecycle management, it includes asset discovery and inventory, software distribution, patch management, and power management.

If you purchased Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for Retail Store Server and are current with Software Subscription and Support you will be entitled to Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management for use as a supporting program for Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for Retail Store Server up to the level of entitlements obtained.

The use of Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management is applicable to Tivoli Provisioning Manager for server licenses only. If you have Tivoli Provisioning Manager for client licenses, you are not eligible to use Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management and must purchase Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management separately.

If you purchased Tivoli Provisioning Manager licenses for server management outside of the Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for Retail Store Server program you should refer to Software Announcement 211-481, dated November 29, 2011.

Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for Retail Store Server

This bundle is an add on to the Retail Store Server Editions. The monitoring capabilities provide contextual navigation and knowledge across distributed application resources. It can quickly identify and help you fix problems before customers are impacted, and help users proactively manage performance requirements to reduce unnecessary labor and capital expenditures. It uses the same infrastructure and UI to extend application performance and availability management coverage to application transactions and web services by adding capabilities in the Tivoli Performance Management suite of products.

Tivoli Provisioning Manager, which is included in the Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On, manages server lifecycle by helping to reduce labor costs through automation and higher server utilization. It may help improve time to market and the success rate of new application deployments and changes.

WebSphere Message Broker Retail Store Edition

The WebSphere family of products includes software to help meet your diverse integration needs as they span varying programming models, qualities of service, and multiple data types. Whether you are looking to exchange a limited amount of data or implement an enterprise-wide SOA, you can meet your current and future needs with WebSphere software.

WebSphere Message Broker Retail Store Edition uses the transport and connectivity options from WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Application Server (included in the WebSphere Remote Server Editions). It offers additional routing and transformation capabilities to implement or extend an ESB.

Planning information

Retail Store Server planning information

Retail Store Server editions must be used solely for applications supporting store business processes that directly support store operations. A store is each physical mercantile establishment where goods and services are offered for sale. A store does not include company headquarters or data centers operations. The program may not be used to support any other business activities beyond this specific store. Licensee must purchase a separate entitlement for each store. Retail Store Server Edition can be purchased using three different options.

1. Processor Value Unit (PVU) license

The maximum allowed PVU capacity on a single server is 200 PVUs for IBM Retail Store Server with Informix Server, 400 PVUs for Retail Store Server Starter Edition and 480 PVUs for Advanced Editions. Retail Store Server Editions are eligible for Virtual Capacity Licensing, so virtual partitions of up to 200 PVUs for Starter Edition with Informix Server, 400 PVUs for Starter Edition and 480 PVUs for Advanced Editions could be allocated on a physical server with greater than 480 PVU capacity to enable use of Retail Store Server Editions on that physical server. Server capacity available to Retail Store Server on any one physical server cannot exceed 200 PVUs for Retail Store server with Informix Server, 400 PVUs for Starter Edition and 480 PVUs for Advanced Editions. Retail Store Server PVU licenses can be utilized on any number of servers. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for every store.

2. Client Devices

Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device that runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the Retail Store Server Editions (Starter and Advanced).

3. Cumulative Store Entitlement

Cumulative Store entitlement provides the licensee unlimited use of program components within a store environment. Licensee must obtain Currency Value Unit and Store entitlements for every store. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements to cover the Currency Value Units as well as the appropriate number of Store entitlements for the store servers.

Entitlement to Program upgrades does not entitle the Licensee to upgrades to Supporting IBM Programs

WebSphere Remote Server (Program) editions are licensed as a multi-product packages and include the Supporting Programs.

Entitlement to Program upgrades does not entitle the Licensee to upgrades to Supporting IBM Programs for use with the Program unless such components are upgraded as part of the Program upgrade. For example, if the WebSphere Application Server ND program product is upgraded, the Licensee will not be entitled to upgrade the Program unless a Program upgrade includes the upgraded version of WebSphere Application Server ND. Additionally, in the case the Licensee is licensing the Program as an upgrade to a previous version of the Program, the Licensee must upgrade all components provided with the Program (unless otherwise provided in writing by IBM ).

This program, when downloaded from a website, contains the applicable IBM license agreement and License Information, if appropriate, and will be presented for acceptance at the time of installation of the program. For future reference, the license and License Information will be stored in a directory such as LICENSE.TXT.

Security, auditability, and control

WebSphere Remote Server uses the security features of the respective operating systems, such as local user registry. The customer is responsible for evaluation and selection of the various WebSphere Remote Server security features, including the implementation of authentication and authorization policies. This responsibility extends to the administration of WebSphere Remote Server security policies and security-related policies external to WebSphere Remote Server, such as the operating environment, network topology and security, and physical security.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found at

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the Program, except for those servers from which the Program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the Program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

Client Device

Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single-user computing device or special-purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistants, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device that runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.

Currency Value Unit (CVU)

Currency Value Unit (CVU) is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A Conversion Unit (CU) is a currency independent measure of Monetary Amounts relevant to the licensing of the Program. Currency specific Monetary Amounts must be converted into CUs in accordance with the Conversion unit table located at http://www.ibm.com/software/licensing/conversion_unit_table , then divided by the Designated Measure of the Program to obtain the resulting Units for which Licensee must obtain sufficient CVU entitlements, as specified in the table below. CVU entitlements are specific to the Program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with CVU entitlements of another program.

Store

Store is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. For Programs licensed in a web commerce environment, a store is a web enabled mercantile establishment deployed and accessible to customers through the web storefront and to administrators through the Program. For Programs licensed in a physical retail setting, a store is each physical mercantile establishment where goods and services are offered for sale. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for every store where the Program is installed.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available via Passport Advantage . It is not available as shrinkwrap.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage , where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM , including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Yes. Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express® . Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at
