Overview
Bottom rule

Starting October 15, 2012, IBM plans to add a new capability for ServerPac called a Product ServerPac. Shopz and ServerPac will be updated to allow you to order many of the z/OS and DB2 products or groups of products without requiring a particular product to be included unless it is required to build your order. For example, you could order z/OS Management Facility (5655-S28), or Enterprise PL/I V4 (5655-W67), or IBM Sterling Connect: Direct for z/OS (5655-X01), and IBM InfoSphere Guardium Data Encryption for IMS and DB2 Databases (5655-P03) without ordering z/OS or DB/2 itself.

This new capability is expected to be useful for customers who build product sets that contain products intended to be installed, maintained, and migrated either at other times than z/OS or DB2 , or are intended to be migrated to a subset of z/OS and DB2 environments within an enterprise. For example, many customers choose to install and use some products on a subset of their systems to help control software costs.

Using ServerPac rather than CBPDO to build these product sets can simplify initial installation. It avoids having to install each product individually and then install service using SMP/E. As with all ServerPac orders, multiple products can be included in one package, and IBM performs the SMP/E product and service installation up to the recommended service level. Installation of a ServerPac is performed using the CustomPac Dialog, which guides you through the steps to install your ServerPac package and allows you to save the configuration for reuse. After initial installation, the products can be serviced using SMP/E to install PTFs.

Secure delivery via FTP using Secure Sockets Layer (FTPS) is planned to be made available October 15, 2012, as outlined by the z/OS statement of direction, Software Announcement 212-086, dated April 11, 2012 . For more information about future requirements to use secure delivery, refer to the z/OS statement of direction. Also, by August 31, 2012, IBM plans to enhance the connectivity test you can use to make sure you meet the requirements for secure transmission.

Technical information

Using Shopz, you will be able to order eligible products in a Product ServerPac in the same manner as for regular ServerPac. Shopz will have a new triangle icon to indicate which products in the ServerPac catalog are eligible for a Product ServerPac. Because this is a ServerPac, Shopz product requisite checking will enforce requisites required for installation, but similar to CBPDO, Shopz will also display requisites that can be bypassed if you already have them installed on your system.

A Product ServerPac has the same characteristics as a regular ServerPac. IBM installs the product or product set when manufacturing your order and delivers the target and distribution libraries with service integrated (applied and accepted) to the latest RSU level and with HIPER and PRP service applied, and the SMP/E environment with a single GLOBAL zone and the minimum number of TARGET and DLIB zones required. By default, for the z/OS SREL, IBM delivers WebSphere® products in their own zone pair, IBM Installation Manager installed products in their own zone pair, and the rest of the products in a separate zone pair. The intent is for you to manage the products you ordered as a product set in the delivered SMP/E environment.

The capability to download Internet orders using FTPS for the Product Customized Offerings (CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac® ), for Shopz service orders, and for SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER will be provided as outlined by the z/OS statement of direction, Software Announcement 212-086, dated April 11, 2012 .

The Shopz download pages will provide the option to download directly to your z/OS host system using FTPS. The CustomPac installation dialog will allow you to specify your own FTP.DATA configuration file or will create one to use for the RECEIVE job. You can access a connectivity test site from Shopz to verify your system setup for Internet delivery by downloading a test package to your z/OS host system using FTP or FTPS, or download it to your workstation first using Download Director. It is recommended that you verify your system setup prior to placing your first Internet order or first attempt to download it using FTPS.

Statement of direction

In the fourth quarter of 2013, IBM plans to require the use of FTPS for direct downloads to z/OS systems. Download Director, an alternative download method you can use to download packages to a workstation and transfer them to z/OS later, is not affected by this change and is planned to remain available.

Description
Bottom rule

Starting October 15, 2012, Shopz will allow you to order new Product ServerPac packages. Many of the products orderable in the z/OS and DB2 ordering paths will be available in Product ServerPacs and can be identified via the triangle icon in the product catalog. Products that can be included without z/OS or DB2 are those that are able to be installed independently in a different SMP/E zone. As usual, products that require another product to be installed will require that product to be included in the order so that it can be built.

All ServerPacs can be delivered through the Internet, DVD, or 3590 or 3592 tape media; however, the Internet is the recommended delivery method. Starting October 15, 2012, the capability to download Internet orders using FTPS for the Product Customized Offerings (CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac ), for Shopz service orders, and for SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER will be provided. The updated connectivity test will be available August 31, 2012, to allow you to verify your system setup for FTPS downloads.

All ServerPac orders are installed using the same ISPF-based installation dialog. The installation dialog allows you to save a configuration you have created and use it as a model for future orders to save time during subsequent installations of the same products. Jobs to check cross-zone SMP/E requisites are among the jobs generated to install a ServerPac, and should be run to verify that all required PTFs have been installed for the environment in which the products included in the package will run.

Note that the intent of this new capability is that it be used for product sets that are intended to be independent of z/OS and DB2 . If you want to include products in the same SMP/E zone as z/OS or DB2 , you should either include them in a z/OS or DB2 order or add them later using CBPDO.
