Description
Bottom rule

IBM Informix Hypervisor Edition V11.70, supports the deployment of Informix Ultimate Edition database server by IBM PureApplication System and VMware ESX environments managed IBM Workload Deployer.

Informix Hypervisor Edition V11.70 combines the Informix Ultimate Edition and supported operating systems, optimized for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and AIX . It can take the form of a single database server or a member of a cluster of database servers.

By deploying and running Informix Hypervisor Edition in virtualized environments, you can better utilize hardware, which may ultimately reduce hardware, power, cooling, and real estate costs. Increased hardware utilization allows a single machine to be partitioned into multiple smaller virtual machines, each of which can run an instance of Informix Hypervisor Edition.

Highlights:

IBM PureApplication System and IBM Workload Deployer are cloud computing appliances that manage Informix products in a cloud environment. The Informix Hypervisor image and system pattern can be dispensed into a pool of virtualized resources running a supported hypervisor. The optimization for deployment speed and agility enables an entirely new usage paradigm for the Informix database server built around rapid setup and provisioning.

Flexible deployment options

Flexible deployment options for IBM Informix Hypervisor Edition are available on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server on x86 and AIX operating systems.

IBM PureApplication System W1500 ( PureApplication System) is an expert integrated system. It combines the flexibility of a general-purpose system and the simplicity of an appliance. Integrated expertise throughout the system fundamentally changes the economics of IT. PureApplication System comes integrated from the IBM factory, architected by IBM experts. Informix Hypervisor Edition is optimized for IBM PureApplication System and is available as an add-on system pattern.

IBM Workload Deployer appliance is a cloud computing appliance that manages IBM WebSphere® products in a cloud environment. It dispenses patterns of virtual images into a pool of virtualized resources running a supported hypervisor. The optimization for deployment speed and agility enables an entirely new usage paradigm for Informix Ultimate Edition built around rapid setup and teardown. Databases can be based upon a standardized deployment that is destroyed and reinstalled after each use.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_sp ecific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access.
