Description
Bottom rule

IBM delivers a new release that builds on the 4690 OS Version 6 Enhanced infrastructure. Version 6 lays the groundwork to expand 4690 OS in the future. IBM 4690 OS V6.3 is a key component of that infrastructure and provides two operating modes; Classic and Enhanced for both controller and terminal.

Classic mode continues to use the legacy 4690 OS infrastructure. This mode is intended to provide investment protection by allowing 4690 OS V6.3 to support many of the same hardware platforms that have been supported in previous 4690 versions.

New hardware and OS functions available in 4690 OS V6.3 may require enhanced mode.

The current OS user interfaces and programming APIs continue to be available, allowing current applications to run in enhanced mode. Enhanced mode not only introduces a new hardware interface layer below classic 4690 OS, but it also supports some additional IBM System x® servers, including selected IBM blade server models, and IBM SurePOS 700 and 300 models. Enhanced mode is also required to exploit other new functions such as Firefox browser and Directory Services for managing user IDs and passwords.

The following new functions are available in Enhanced mode:

The following new functions are available in both Classic and Enhanced mode:

Store loop will no longer be supported in Classic or Enhanced mode.

Program name PID number Charge metric

IBM 4690 Operating System V6 5639-P70 Per controller
IBM 4690 Operating System V6 5639-P70 Per terminal

The following features are optional and may be ordered separately:

The product is licensed per controller and per terminal in a store with the first year of support included. There is a media feature code if media is desired.

IBM 4690 Operating System, 1 or 3 Year SWM is the support offering, which has the same structure as the product with a controller and terminal charge.

Note: The base, migration and classic supplemental packages of the product are available on CD-ROM.

Server

Server is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or Client Devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate server. For the purpose of server-based licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements for each server that is made available to the program, regardless of the number of processor cores and partitions in the server or the number of copies of the program on the server.

Notes:

Client Device

Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single-user computing device or special-purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistants, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device that runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.

Retail Store Solutions - product offering

The Product Identification (PID) number for the new initial base license of IBM 4690 OS V6.3 is 5639-P70. The following is a description of each of the new feature codes:

You must also include either the 1 year or 3 year Software Maintenance PID to register for Software Maintenance and to be entitled for Software Subscription and Support. Please refer to the section on Software Maintenance for additional information.

Those users current on the SWM for previous Versions, can obtain V6.3, without cost by ordering 5639-P70 and specifying the media code (5889) only.

Retail Store Solutions - Support Offering

All software licenses include Software Maintenance (Software Subscription and Technical Support) for a period of 12 months from the date of acquisition, providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assure technical support coverage for all licenses. Extending coverage for a total of three years from date of acquisition may be elected.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you with assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at

http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/handbook.html

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

In an effort to provide addition detail to our customers, below is more information regarding the Software Maintenance offering for IBM 4690 OS V6.3.

This offering provides access to the customer support Web site, voice access to personnel, support for configuration and installation questions, maximum two-hour initial response during prime shift and four hours during off shift (off shift is defined as the hours outside of prime shift), and 24 x 7 coverage for "store down" situations.

To order support, specify program number 5639-BB3 for one-year support or 5639-GG2 for three-year and the appropriate registration feature code. Support for the first year, even though there is no charge, must be ordered using the registration feature code. If Software Maintenance has expired, then customers wishing to reinstate their Software Maintenance must order the After License product number.

The following items are orderable:

When support is purchased, it must be ordered for every installed license of this product. The quantity of the billable feature codes for support must be equal to the quantity of the billable feature codes for the product license. Support is not transferable among products.

Note that one terminal feature should be ordered for each POS terminal supported the IBM 4690 OS. Also note that separate controller features must be obtained for each controller utilizing the feature.

The features can be enabled using the featurization code provided with the package. It is a violation of IBM's licensing policy to enable functions using the featurization code without ordering the selected functions for a one-time charge. Features are listed below. Some of these charge features require ordering a media feature as well.

There are two options for Software Maintenance (SWMA) for 4690 OS V6.3. You can choose either a one year or a three year option.

You must order Software Maintenance Registration with the initial order. It entitles the customer to receive new Versions and Releases during the initial 12-month period, and also to receive support. It also registers them in the entitlement database, allowing them to open and report problems. If you do not include the Software Maintenance Registration PID with the initial order, it will not update the entitlement system to allow the customer to get support.

Also, you must ensure that the number of base 4690 OS terminal and controller licenses match the number of 4690 OS terminal and controller software maintenance licenses. There should be a one for one match.

You do not need to order the SWMA Renewal the first year since it is already included in the base license price of the package. This needs to be ordered once the registration period is up (after the first 12 months). It starts with year number two through the life of the installation.

Make sure you always order the latest announced Software Maintenance PID for 4690 OS. The 4690 OS Software Maintenance PID number will always be the same PID number for the life of 4690 OS.

The following are the Software Maintenance Product Identification (PID) Numbers for 4690 OS V6.3:

The following product is covered under 4690 OS Software Maintenance:

There is not a separate Software Maintenance Product Identification (PID) number for IBM 4690 Remote Access. Software Maintenance is covered under the 4690 OS Software Maintenance product identification numbers. In order to receive support for IBM 4690 Remote Access Base software you must be current on your 4690 OS SWM.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. Proof of Entitlement (PoE) is now the packing list or invoice that is included with the package. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) agreement applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.
