The IBM® Content Engine Bulk Import Tool (BIT) is a high-volume, high-speed solution for inserting batches of document images into IBM FileNet® Content Manager. It is an equivalent for IBM FileNet Content Manager of HPII (High-Performance Image Import) for IBM FileNet Image Services.

BIT is ideal for FileNet Content Manager customers using non-IBM Capture or Content Collection who would otherwise have to use those non-IBM Capture or Content Collection 'one image at a time' import tools.

BIT is packaged as part of FileNet Content Manager V5.1, currently shipping.

The IBM Content Engine Bulk Import Tool (BIT) is designed to enable users to move document images into the IBM FileNet Content Manager repository, even when those images may have been created in batches using non-IBM Capture or Content Collection tools.

BIT is available in two ways:

  • As a free-of-charge component of IBM Production Imaging Edition (PIE)
  • Purchased as a stand-alone tool

Description
Bottom rule

BIT can accept document images from files at the rate of more than a million images per day. A transaction file that accompanies the imported images is the basis for image import, document assembly, indexing, committal to the IBM FileNet Content Manager repository, and an audit trail.

Batch-oriented for mission-critical applications, BIT is also designed to help customers who must scan and archive during peak periods, which requires image throughput of more than a million images per day.

BIT is designed to provide a clean recovery process, should the system be shut down unexpectedly.

Batch handling allows for several thousand documents and pages per batch, and multiple document classes per batch.

Administration of BIT is enhanced with capabilities supporting end-of-day statistics for reconciliation, batch status reports, batch committal reports, error logs, and audit trails.

In order to use BIT, IBM FileNet Content Manager customers must add (purchase) one of the following products:

  • Production Imaging Edition add-on to FileNet Content Manager, or
  • Production Imaging Edition add-on to FileNet Business Process Manager, or
  • Production Imaging Edition add-on to IBM Case Manager, or
  • BIT for IBM FileNet Content Engine

There are no trade ups, or no-charge upgrades to BIT.

BIT is shipped with, and has the same lifecycle as IBM FileNet Content Manager. It is a new tool available to IBM FileNet Content Manager users, providing the same overall functionality as High Performance Image Import (HPII) for IBM FileNet Image Services.

Because the BIT for IBM FileNet Content Engine has closely followed the functionality of HPII for Image Services, it will appeal to:

  • IBM FileNet Image Services customers who want to migrate their document image management to IBM FileNet Content Manager
  • IBM FileNet Content Manager customers who use non-IBM capture and content collection tools, but still need an IBM solution to get the resultant batches of document images into IBM FileNet Content Manager

Charge metrics definitions

User Value Unit (UVU)

UVU is the metric by which this program is licensed. UVU entitlements are based on the number of users for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of UVUs required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The UVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with UVU entitlements of another software program. UVU licensing offers price benefits for customers by enabling a lower cost of incremental growth of resources. To understand these benefits of UVU licensing, and to determine how many UVUs to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users or resources which may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of value unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a value unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of value unit entitlements for your implementation. The value unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

At all times, the number of users accessing the program or any component of the program in any manner, directly or indirectly (for instance, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) or through any other means must not exceed your entitlement to use the program, as indicated on the applicable PoEs.

Authorized (AUVU): For selectively licensing internal users within your organization. The number of AUVUs you require is based on the number of authorized users within your organization that may access the program and/or whose user content may be analyzed using the program in any manner at set forth in the AUVU license conversion table.

External (XUVU): For licensing users who are external to your organization whose user content is analyzed using the program. The number of XUVUs you require is based on the number of external users whose user content may be analyzed using the program in any manner as set forth in the XUVU license conversion table.

Employee (EUVU): For collectively licensing all of your internal users. The number of EUVUs you require will be based on the number of employees in your Enterprise as set forth in the EUVU license conversion table.

Enterprise: An Enterprise includes any legal entity that, by more than 50%, owns, is owned by, or is under common ownership with the Licensee. The Licensee is the legal entity that is authorized to execute and administer this agreement on behalf of an enterprise. The Licensee need not be a 'company' and may be the entire enterprise.

Licensing support for Infrequent Users: "Infrequent User" means an Authorized User who accesses the Program not more than one hundred twenty (120) times in any consecutive 12 month period. A single access is comprised of one or more interactions between the Authorized User and the Program or actions performed on behalf of the Authorized User by the Program, all within a consecutive 15 minute period.

On the condition that Licensee creates a mechanism to track accesses by Authorized Users to verify that they meet the requirements of Infrequent Users, Infrequent Users need not be counted as full Authorized Users. A ratio of 10 Infrequent Users will equal one (1) Authorized User for the purpose of calculating Authorized UVUs. Programs eligible to use the Infrequent User ratio in calculating required Authorized UVUs are IBM FileNet Content Manager Authorized and IBM FileNet Content Manager Starter Pack Authorized.

Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
