Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program. For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands), go to

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

To calculate the exact PVU entitlements required for the program, go to

https://www-112.ibm.com/software/howtobuy/passportadvantage/valueunitcalculator/vucalc.wss

The subject programs have a new structure for licensing, designed for clarity and simplicity, while offering the flexibility to configure your systems to best support your business objectives.

User Value Unit (UVU)

UVU is the metric by which this program is licensed. UVU entitlements are based on the number of users for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of UVUs required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The UVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with UVU entitlements of another software program. UVU licensing offers price benefits for customers by enabling a lower cost of incremental growth of resources. To understand these benefits of UVU licensing, and to determine how many UVUs to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users or resources which may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of value unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

At all times, the number of users accessing the program or any component of the program in any manner, directly or indirectly (for instance, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) or through any other means must not exceed your entitlement to use the program, as indicated on the applicable PoEs.

Authorized (AUVU): For selectively licensing internal users within your organization. The number of AUVUs (Authorized UVUs) you require is based on the number of authorized users within your organization that may access the program and/or whose user content may be analyzed using the program in any manner at set forth in the Authorized User Value Unit (AUVU) license conversion table.

An Infrequent User means an Authorized User who accesses the program no more than one hundred twenty (120) times a year. Access is defined as any interaction between the Authorized User and the program, or any action performed on behalf of the Authorized User by the program, lasting no more than 15 consecutive minutes.

External (XUVU): For licensing users who are external to your organization whose user content is analyzed using the program. The number of XUVUs (External UVUs) you require is based on the number of external users whose user content may be analyzed using the program in any manner as set forth in the External User Value Unit (XUVU) license conversion table.

Employee (EUVU): For collectively licensing all of your internal users. The number of EUVUs (Employee UVUs) you require will be based on the number of employees in your Enterprise as set forth in the Employee User Value Unit (EUVU) license conversion table.

Enterprise: An Enterprise includes any legal entity that, by more than 50%, owns, is owned by, or is under common ownership with the Licensee. The Licensee is the legal entity that is authorized to execute and administer this agreement on behalf of an enterprise. The Licensee need not be a 'company' and may be the entire enterprise.

Product pricing

Each product has a fixed price per UVU. Customers license the appropriate number of UVUs to provide access to a corresponding user population.

Cumulative volume discounting

As the user quantity increases, the number of UVUs increase albeit at a slower rate. Value Unit License Conversion Tables establish the required number of UVUs for a specified number of users.

Volume discounting examples:

  • 100 authorized users require 85 AUVUs
  • 1,000 authorized users require 600 AUVUs
  • 5,000 authorized users require 2,500 AUVUs

Content Manager configuration example:

  • Content Manager AUVU price = $Y per AUVU
  • 5,000 authorized users require 2,500 AUVUs
  • Total price = $Y x 2,500

More information about PVU licensing can be found at this location

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

Although the subject programs are now offered under a new, streamlined licensing and pricing model, the function of the products has not changed from that of previously available offerings.

Server

Server is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user or client devices. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server regardless of the number of processor cores or partitions in the server on which the program runs or each server managed by the program. Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server.
