Description
Bottom rule

Visualization software from IBM enables user interface developers to create highly graphical, highly custom displays for mission-critical applications.

Large end users and System Integrators (SIs) are in the business of providing highly custom applications and know the importance in seeking out tested and proven products to support creation of sophisticated, user friendly displays. IBM ILOG JViews Enterprise and IBM ILOG JViews Maps for Defense addresses these needs, enabling enterprise business developers to greatly reduce their development time, maintenance costs, and project schedule risks, while users benefit from the resulting displays that deliver information more effectively and intuitively.

Specifically, JViews Enterprise offers a rich set of charts, maps, diagrams, dashboards, and schedule displays that can be easily customized and integrated into a user interface. In a similar notion, JViews Maps for Defense offers out-of-the-box services for building geo-referenced map displays for military command and control applications. For both products, the bottom line is: software projects are finished faster and application users are extremely satisfied.

JViews Enterprise: Displays

To meet the demanding needs of advanced business graphical displays, JViews Enterprise offers a full spectrum of display types for the user interface developer within a single offering.

  • Charts are a classic display, used to depict a series of data points. They can be used to show both historical data as well as real-time values.
  • Maps show where assets are physically located. Assets are often tied to underlying system data, and may change position or shape to reflect current status.
  • Diagrams are used to show objects and their interconnections. Typical uses include flowcharts, organization charts, network topologies, and process modelers.
  • Dashboards are unified collections of individual display objects (for example, charts, gauges, and maps) that graphically convey current business metrics to the user. JViews Enterprise also supports another type of dashboard, the process control display, used to show one or more pieces of physical equipment with their current status.
  • Schedules are a specialized types of chart display used to show how business resources are allocated over time.

JViews Enterprise: Industries

The types of displays enabled by JViews Enterprise are used in a wide variety of application domains. They typically share common characteristics:

  • Screen objects are domain-specific, and may represent the real-time status of the underlying system objects.
  • There are large sets of data, requiring specialized techniques to organize and filter the information.
  • Users may need to graphically edit or otherwise interact with screen objects in a highly-customized manner.
  • Innovative display techniques may be necessary to highlight trends or outliers.
  • The applications may need to be deployed to both the desktop and Web.

The following types of applications and industry domains are representative of those that require these advanced graphical displays:

Industry Application type

Communications, Energy and utilities, Network, equipment, and service level
  Transportation, Defense management

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table1 by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table1.
  2. Add the PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to or managed by the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

1
For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit
http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
2
Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:
  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through Virtualization technologies, Operating System commands and BIOS settings.

Authorized User

Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An Authorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each Authorized User accessing the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
