Overview
Bottom rule

Cristie TBMR is powerful, easy-to-use software that integrates with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. It is designed to provide rapid, automatic machine recovery to an identical state following failure of physical hardware or corruption of an operating system.

TBMR helps users of Tivoli Storage Manager recover their operating systems directly from a Tivoli Storage Manager backup. No additional backup is required and users can invoke the power of Tivoli Storage Manager to help recover their operating system to any point in time that is provided by Tivoli Storage Manager. Multiple servers can be recovered simultaneously and support includes dissimilar hardware, allowing recovery to different server models or brands.

Description
Bottom rule

Cristie TBMR delivers bare machine recovery capability to IBM Tivoli Storage Manager on multiple platforms.

TBMR for Windows®

TBMR for Windows adds bare machine recovery capability to Tivoli Storage Manager running on 32 bit and 64 bit Intel® platforms. It works by saving a small amount of additional (configuration) data to the backup, which it then uses during the recovery to partition and format the disks before restoring the files. The recovery is controlled by the TBMR for Windows CD, which boots into a Windows PE operating system supporting the Cristie recovery software wizard. The wizard allows recovery to the same or dissimilar hardware. TBMR for Windows is licensed on a per server basis and is not tied to the number of CPUs. Currently, TBMR for Windows runs on the x86 and x64 processors.

TBMR for Linux®

TBMR for Linux adds bare machine recovery capability to Tivoli Storage Manager running on 32 bit and 64 bit Intel platforms. It works by saving a small amount of additional (configuration) data to the backup, which it then uses during the recovery to partition and format the disks before restoring the files. The recovery is controlled by the TBMR for Linux CD, which boots into a Linux operating system supporting the Cristie recovery software. This software allows recovery to the same or dissimilar hardware. TBMR for Linux is licensed on a per server basis and is not tied to the number of CPUs. Currently, TBMR for Linux runs on the x86 and x64 processors.

TBMR for Solaris

TBMR for Solaris adds bare machine recovery capability to Tivoli Storage Manager running on SPARC and on 32 bit and 64 bit Intel platforms. It works by saving a small amount of additional (configuration) data to the backup and by making a CD of the basic operating system. Then, it uses this CD to boot the recovering machine and the Cristie recovery software recreates the file systems and restores the files. This software allows recovery to the same or similar hardware. In addition, TBMR for Solaris can use a jumpstart server instead of a bootable CD. TBMR for Solaris is licensed on a per server basis and is not tied to the number of CPUs.

TBMR for HP-UX

TBMR for HP-UX adds bare machine recovery capability to Tivoli Storage Manager running on PA-RISC and Itanium® (IA64) platforms. It works by saving a small amount of additional (configuration) data to the backup and by making a CD of the basic operating system. Then, it uses this CD to boot the recovering machine and the Cristie recovery software recreates the file systems and restores the files. TBMR for HP-UX is licensed on a per server basis and is not tied to the number of CPUs. Currently, TBMR for HP-UX does not support recovery to dissimilar hardware.

TBMR for AIX®

TBMR for AIX adds bare machine recovery capability to Tivoli Storage Manager running on PowerPC® platforms. It works by saving a small amount of additional (configuration) data to the backup and by making a CD of the basic operating system. Then, it uses this CD to boot the recovering machine and the Cristie recovery software recreates the file systems and restores the files. TBMR for AIX is licensed on a per server basis and is not tied to the number of CPUs. Currently, TBMR for AIX does not support recovery to dissimilar hardware.

TBMR for Virtual Machines (VM)

TBMR for VM is functionally the same as TBMR for Windows or TBMR for Linux running on Intel platforms.
