Overview
Bottom rule

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers a managed file transfer solution for moving files -- regardless of size -- with auditability, visibility, and reliability. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0, the newest member of the WebSphere MQ family of messaging products, is available both for distributed platforms and for z/OS on the IBM System z® platform.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 leverages WebSphere MQ messaging as its reliable transport mechanism for moving files. It enables files to be moved that are larger than maximum individual WebSphere MQ message sizes. An audit log of file movements enables organizations to demonstrate that business data in files is transferred with integrity from source to target file system. Graphical configuration tooling, integrated with WebSphere MQ Explorer, enables quick and easy definition of transfers without the need for programming.

WebSphere MQ for z/OS is a prerequisite for IBM WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition for z/OS. A separate license of WebSphere MQ for z/OS is required for this product on the IBM System z platform. On distributed platforms, WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 includes a WebSphere MQ V7.0 license.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition delivers both file-oriented and message-oriented styles of data movement. Organizations that run separate mechanisms for file and message traffic can consolidate on a single, reliable transport capable of handling both file and message traffic. Using a single reliable backbone can help achieve these operational efficiencies by reducing the need to deploy and manage separate parallel networks for messages and files.

With the addition of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0, the WebSphere MQ family expands its role as the SOA universal messaging backbone. The WebSphere MQ family delivers a unifying connectivity solution that brings together file-oriented, message-oriented, service-oriented, and event-oriented applications and Web 2.0 traffic.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers a managed file transfer solution for moving files regardless of their size. It adds file transfer services to the WebSphere MQ backbone to enable movement of files in a managed way with auditability, visibility, and reliability.

Many organizations devote valuable IT resources to building and maintaining systems in-house for moving files between applications. Most of these solutions are based on FTP because of its simplicity and freely available mechanism. While FTP is well suited for file sharing, where several applications access an occasionally updated, centrally managed source file, some organizations are seeking alternatives for files that are moved between applications as part of business transactions. As volumes of transfers rapidly grow, and with increased consequences for errors in business data being incorrectly transferred, having a reliable, flexible, cost-effective solution for managed file transfer is increasingly critical for organizations of all sizes.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers an SOA-ready managed file transfer solution that can replace home-grown and FTP-based approaches to file movement.

Reasons for reliable managed file transfer solutions include:

  • Increase of regulatory compliance and government legislation that obliges businesses to demonstrate the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting or the handling of sensitive information, in part by being able to show that data is transferred with integrity around their organization. This requires organizations to be able to demonstrate how sensitive and financial data in files and documents move throughout their departments. Examples include Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), or industry-specific directives such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Globalization, requiring competitive organizations to reduce the batch window needed to collect or synchronize information between locations. They need to ensure that an up-to-date view of the business is always accessible or to cope with the increasing volume of data that must be processed overnight.
  • Supply-chain integration concerns that intensify the need for reliable, auditable exchange between organizations to ensure partner agreements are kept and errors can be minimized.
  • Pressures to increase IT department efficiencies to devote more time to innovations that drive the unique advantage for the business, reduce time spent reengineering solutions, and focus efforts on extending infrastructure with value-add capabilities that increase competitive advantage.
  • Emergence of SOA, driving business demand for more flexible, agile IT systems that can adapt quickly in response to changing business realities.
  • Organization-wide deployment of an enterprise service bus (ESB), coupled with the need to apply ESB mediation, transformation, and enrichment capabilities to files.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers the following:

  • A multipurpose backbone enabling consolidation of file and message traffic onto a single transport that helps reduce operational and maintenance costs and skills requirements. Source and target systems do not need to be directly connected.
  • A flexible backbone for files that determines the path across the network between distributed source and target systems. You can configure transfers and track them across intermediate IT systems throughout a network.
  • An audit subsystem that logs and time stamps file transfers at source and destination for audit purposes. This can help you demonstrate the integrity of file data as it is transferred between IT systems.
  • Security of file payload using industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for encryption and authentication.
  • Visibility of transfer status and progress with graphical tooling. Event-driven visibility of file transfers status, progress, and auditing enables flexible distribution of audit log and transfer status information across the file transfer backbone. You can:
    • Subscribe to relevant portions of transfer status and audit log across the network
    • Use the Eclipse-based WebSphere MQ Explorer tooling to remotely track transfers and progress
    • View remote status reporting remotely
  • Bulk transfer of files -- regardless of size -- as multiple messages.
  • File transfer reliability, leveraging the proven WebSphere MQ transport to guarantee the delivery of files and ensure that files are not duplicated during transmission. WebSphere MQ automatically manages its reliable messaging by using receipts to confirm delivery and resends file data as needed so that these operations are invisible to users. Using queues to store file data ensures reliable delivery even when the availability of the network, hardware, and receiving applications are disrupted.
  • Time-independent transfers, using the asynchronous characteristic of the WebSphere MQ transport to enable ad hoc transfers regardless of when solution components are free or available. File transfers can occur without the need for source and target systems, applications, and network being available simultaneously.
    • Helps improve productivity of applications and enables progression from batch-orientation to service-centricity for SOA.
    • Eases configuration; users can assume that the source, target, and network are always available.
  • Graphical tooling, enabling remote configuration of transfers. Centralized configuration enables remote management of the whole file transfer backbone, simplifying operations and increasing visibility.
  • No need to program and no need to use messaging APIs. A zero coding solution with graphical tooling that only requires understanding of file transfers -- not the underlying WebSphere MQ network -- helps accelerate solution deployment and reduces skills requirements.
  • Automatic file conversion and compression. Handles file data conversations between platforms including ASCII and EBCDIC, Carriage Return/LineFeed (CR/LF), flat files, z/OS QSAM, and BPAM. File compression reduces network use.
  • Transfer automation with scheduling and triggering.
    • Scheduling enables file transfers to be time-tabled at preplanned intervals, helping to automate transfers.
    • Triggering enables files transfers to be triggered based on file events; helps increase the productivity of applications and evolve IT systems from being batch-oriented to becoming event-driven.
  • Scripting, offering advanced users programmatic control of transfers to enable automation.
  • Exits, enabling customization of transfers via external function called before and after transfers.
  • Client support, enabling transfers to and from machines that are not running local WebSphere MQ queue managers.
  • Support for a range of platforms including Linux on x86, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Hewlett Packard HP-UX, Microsoft Windows, and IBM z/OS.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers support for transfers to and from systems running WebSphere MQ V7.0 and the previous release, WebSphere MQ V6.0. At least one WebSphere MQ V7.0 server queue manager (supplied with the product) must be deployed within a WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition network. This WebSphere MQ V7.0 server queue manager acts as a coordination center for logging audit data and uses its publish and subscribe capability to broadcast audit and file transfer status information.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 enables files to be transferred to and from ESBs with reliability. This enables ESB capabilities -- including mediation, transforming, and routing -- to be applied to files. WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 offers additional file processing capabilities to enable transformation, mediation, and enrichment that are specifically designed for file data. It has native support for handling large files that simplifies the processing of large, repeating, complex file records without using excessive storage. Files can be delivered to WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 using FTP or, as a managed file transfer, using WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0.

For more details on file processing capabilities in WebSphere Message Broker, refer to 207-246, dated October 9, 2007, and 207-232, dated October 9, 2007

Accessibility by people with disabilities

You can request a U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance at

http://www.ibm.com/able/product_accessibility/index.html

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer Edition for z/OS V7.0 is capable as of December 12, 2008, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three-digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you want to increase your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/vuctool

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (IAASM). This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless cancelled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390® and System z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Single version charging

To elect single version charging, you must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program, and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • ServerPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • SystemPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*

*3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization, and data input verification.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

           for z/OS V7.0

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit

http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

Reference based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA program executes.

z/OS based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

Reference based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with full machine based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The IBM System z Machines Exhibit, Z125-3901, or visit the Mainframes section of the System z Exhibits Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

For more information on sub-capacity System z IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184, dated August 10, 2004

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the System z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select System z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the System z Software Pricing Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM System z 890 and 800 License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and System z Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous System z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

On/Off CoD

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eServertm On/Off Capacity on Demand - Software (Z125-6611) must be signed prior to use.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agenttm is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
