System z, the leading platform for minimizing power, cooling, floor space, and personnel costs, together with WebSphere Portal, are giving clients creative options to deliver unparalleled performance and flexibility.

Key new WebSphere Portal features

  • Enhanced Web 2.0 support enables the creation of much more intuitive, responsive, and participatory business applications - Through an enhanced set of Web 2.0 capabilities in WebSphere Portal, organizations can more quickly deploy rich, responsive, browser-based applications that significantly improve the performance of the browser-based user experience. Customers can take advantage of these new features automatically, without having to rework their standards-based portlets. In addition, new features like Representation State Transfer (REST)-based services, live text tags, and improved Atom and Really Simple Syndication (RSS) consumption support the rapid creation of secure, governed composite application mashups, facilitating an organization's ability to quickly and cost effectively solve specific business problems.
  • Streamlined deployment features support faster time to value - This release of WebSphere Portal delivers enhancements that make the product much easier to configure and deploy. New site management capabilities ease promotion of content between portal environments. As a result, WebSphere Portal is one of the few portals on the market today that is easy to install and deploy, yet still scalable enough for global companies that need to deploy applications that support many thousands of users.

Bottom rule

IBM WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V6.1 is an enterprise portal solution with the complete portal services necessary to deliver a single point of personalized interaction with applications, content, business processes, and people. The unified user experience can help you improve overall productivity and customer satisfaction.

WebSphere Portal Enable on System z is the ideal platform for customers requiring high levels of integration with existing mainframe applications, high quality of service for availability, responsiveness to unpredictable workload levels, security, and disaster recovery, while delivering exceptional end-user experiences to customers, partners, and employees. System z, the leading platform for minimizing power, cooling, floorspace and personnel costs, together with WebSphere Portal, are giving clients creative options to deliver unparalleled performance and flexibility.

WebSphere Portal rationalizes and simplifies IT infrastructure by delivering a complete set of portal platform services:

  • Framework services

These services can be leveraged by WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer to build role-based, portal applications that can help improve the effectiveness of your organization. Because WebSphere Portal utilizes SOA, these applications can use existing assets and can be quickly modified to meet changing roles and business conditions.

WebSphere Portal Enable

Today we are announcing significant investments in our core portal foundation, delivering market-leading innovations that allow customers to quickly deploy highly interactive, desktop-like composite applications. These enhancements provide customers with extreme flexibility.

Enhanced support for Web 2.0 helps users interact with the information and people they need while providing a user interface that exceeds user expectations.

  1. Live Text tagging presents one-click access to relevant supporting information that pops up on the page while executing a business process.
  2. Portal REST services further opens the portal platform to composite mashup applications with services feeds from other web applications.
  3. New Client Side Aggregation reduces server side processing and dramatically improves end-user performance.
  4. Client Side Feed Consumption provides highly efficient integration of information through feeds (Atom and RSS).

Streamlined installation and deployment features support faster time to value - this release of WebSphere Portal delivers enhancements that make the product much easier to install, configure, and deploy.

  • Enhanced support for implementing high-performance, scalable, thread-safe applications via JDK 1.5 support.
  • Simplified portlet deployment, management and new resource monitoring features (via WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.1 support).
  • Simplified security configuration, new Windows® Desktop Simple, and Protected GSSAPI Negotiation Mechanism (SPNEGO) single sign-on support.
  • New one-click site management application simplifies control of staging to production capabilities with rollback and versioning.
  • Expanded site layout support (Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)/ Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP)) continues to open the platform to additional content sources.
  • Remember Me cookie support for personalized content delivery without login.
  • New Step Up authentication challenges users to re-authenticate with a stronger authentication method (step-up) which provides multiple levels of security.
  • Increased Java™ Heap available for customer applications (servlets, portlets, portlet services) due to Java Virtual Machine (JVM) running in 64-bit mode.

Support for the very latest portlet open standards (JSR286, WSRP 2.0) have been incorporated.

Web Application Integrator provides a method to easily embed existing Web applications in WebSphere Portal for greater value.

New WebSphere Portlet Factory release delivers an easier out-of-the-box experience combined with new Web 2.0 features and support for visual application development of desktop-like Web applications - WebSphere Portlet Factory, IBM's award-winning portlet automation tooling, includes new capabilities such as REST services support for creation of custom portlets that integrate with REST services like Lotus® Connections and Lotus Quickr™. The complexity of Web 2.0 technologies is masked by providing out-of-the-box Asynchronous JavaScript™ with XML (AJAX) components that enable wizard-driven creation of highly interactive, rich, browser-based applications. Portlet Factory enables organizations to easily deploy high-performance, intuitive applications that include features like drag-and-drop across portlets, delivering a rich client experience within a browser. In addition, this new release of Portlet Factory adds support for integrating content from Lotus Web Content Management (WCM), enabling customers to easily create custom portlets that leverage WCM content. Portlet Factory also supports the deployment of applications to Lotus Expeditor and Lotus Notes® Version 8 enabling customers to build applications once and deploy to multiple environments. Finally, this version of Portlet Factory includes a test server that enables developers to start building solutions faster than ever.

IBM Lotus Web Content Management (WCM), which is included with a restricted license for WebSphere Portal use, enables you to rapidly build next generation Web sites with new enhancements that can be used throughout the entire content life cycle. Improvements in authoring, management, and delivery enable you to interact with your customers, partners, and employees in new ways.

Document Management is enhanced with the inclusion of a restricted-use license of Lotus Quickr. Your users can easily share, view, and organize files of all types, ranging from documents to spreadsheets, within the portal community. You can quickly set up document libraries so your teams can easily share rich media content with features such as customizable metadata and version control. Your documents are also accessible from any browser interface including feeds and custom-built portlets created with WebSphere Portlet Factory builders.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/vuctool

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

VU Value Unit

VU Value Unit is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. VU Value Unit entitlements are based on the quantity of a specific designated measurement, either users or resources, for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of VU Value Units required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The VU Value Unit entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with VU Value Unit entitlements of another program. To understand these benefits of VU Value Unit licensing, and to determine how many VU Value Units to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

The programs in this announcement all have Value Unit-Based pricing.

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (IAASM). This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless cancelled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390® and System z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Single version charging

To elect single version charging, you must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program, and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*

WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V6.1 is accompanied by a full copy of the WebSphere Portal Enable, V6.1, with limited usage rights. The Portal Enable for z/OS license entitles you to use Portal Enable, V6.1 in order to run non-z/OS components that belong to a WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS installation, and to develop portlets for the Portal for z/OS system on a non-z/OS platform. License terms do not allow you to use Portal Enable, V6.1 to set up a separate Portal on another platform (other than z/OS) accessed directly by multiple end users.

If you wish to set up a Portal on another platform other than zSeries® for access by multiple end users, you must purchase one or more licenses of WebSphere Portal Enable, V6.1.

If you purchase a Service and Support agreement for WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, you will also be entitled to register for support for the WebSphere Portal Enable component that is included in the WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V6.1 package (refer to your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner for details). However, WebSphere Portal Enable V6.1 support is limited to the level of support provided to WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V6.1 and does not include how to support nor does it include subscription to separately purchasable or subsequent versions of WebSphere Portal Enable V6.1 unless provided via a new release of WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

           V6.1
Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit

http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA program executes.

z/OS based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with full machine-based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The IBM System z Machines Exhibit, Z125-3901, or visit the Mainframes section of the System z Exhibits Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

For more information on sub-capacity System z IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184, dated August 10, 2004.

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the System z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

  • That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001, dated January 13, 1998.
  • Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the Sysplex
Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select System z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the System z Software Pricing Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM System z 890 and 800 License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and System z Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous System z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
