IBM Support for xCAT gives you the flexibility to choose from multiple support levels depending upon your business needs. Based on your requirements for features such as access methods, technical contacts, and targeted response times, you can optimize the value that you are getting from the open source community and IBM.

About xCAT 2

xCAT is a scalable distributed computing management and provisioning tool that provides a unified interface for hardware control, discovery, and OS diskful/diskfree deployment. xCAT has been deploying and managing large Linux® systems for a number of years. Many IBM customers and others have enjoyed its powerful customizable architecture.

xCAT is an open source management tool that benefits from the efforts of collaborative development by an open community which brings leading-edge architectural design you can use with confidence.

xCAT 2 is licensed under the Eclipse Public License, one of the more flexible licenses available for open source software. Using xCAT 2 helps you benefit from the best of open source while participating in the innovation of open source development.

Support offering terms

Consistent with the support tier purchased, IBM will provide support only for the support issues that arise on copies of xCAT 2 installed on the servers for which your IBM Support for xCAT support contract has been purchased.

Support is limited to the specified operating environment listed in the Requirements section of this announcement and is available only pursuant to the terms and conditions of the support agreement.

The annual renewable support offering is priced per server. Technical support is available world wide and can be purchased via Passport Advantage® and Passport Advantage Express.

Since the IBM Support for xCAT support offerings are for an open source software project, all fixes and code are provided through the official xCAT SourceForge Web site. IBM plans to deliver all fixes to the open source project.

The IBM Support for xCAT 2 is offered for xCAT Version 2.0 and beyond. This IBM support contract is not available for xCAT 1.3. In addition, clients who have downloaded the resource monitoring and control (RMC) plug-in from IBM for monitoring capabilities for use with xCAT 2 and have purchased IBM Support for xCAT will be provided support for RMC pursuant to the terms and conditions of the customer's xCAT support contract.

There are two tiers of IBM Support for xCAT which provide support based on your particular needs. Both offerings are delivered via remote support teams - on-site support is not provided. Summary details of the Enhanced and Elite Support tiers are described below:
