Description

What's new in IBM Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS V8.4

  • Web-based system administration — client — The Web-based system administration client enables many common functions to be performed via a Web-based browser client. This client allows you to add, view, update, and delete users, groups, applications, application groups, folders, printers, and storage sets.

This client allows greater administration capabilities in a decentralized environment, reducing the need for a large workstation footprint and extended OnDemand administration skills in user departments.

  • IBM Web Interface for Content Management (WEBi) — The WEBi allows users to access documents from the IBM Content Manager OnDemand repository with any supported Web browser. It is designed as an out-of-the-box, easy-to-use, highly interactive Web client that employs open standards and supports Web 2.0 and AJAX technologies. It is well-suited for both local and remote users who are familiar with the point-and-click capabilities of a Web interface. The result of WEBi open-standards infrastructure is a lightweight, low footprint client with the performance and response time of a synchronous thick client.
  • Cabinet support — Cabinet support allows users to organize folders into electronic cabinets, simplifying navigation through the folder structure. A cabinet can contain any number of folders and a folder can belong to none, one, or more cabinets. This function is exposed through the administration clients, Window client, and the Web Interface client, and is not supported on the server. The following operations are available through the cabinet view: Add, Update, Delete, Copy, Export, Summarize, Properties, Find, and Explore.
  • Global annotations — Content Manager OnDemand now allows you to decide whether public, private, and group annotations can be created at the system level. If you have the correct permission, you can also determine which type of annotation to use as the default.
  • Additional usability enhancements:
    • Multi-character predictive search
    • Export to file
    • User-specified separator for Copy to Clipboard
    • Filename indexing
  • Event-based expiration for data in Tivoli® Storage Manager — In Content Manager OnDemand, the data retention protection (DRP) protocol prevents Tivoli Storage Manager from explicitly deleting data but allows it to expire data. V8.4 introduces a new expiration type, event-based expiration. Under the event-based expiration, Tivoli Storage Manager holds items forever until an event activates the creation-based expiration parameters. After the expiration parameters are activated, they determine how long an object exists until Tivoli Storage Manager deletes the object.
  • Ability to change the life of cached data retroactively — Before V8.4, when you changed the cache data value in the administrative client, the change affected data subsequently loaded, and not data that is already in the cache. Starting with V8.4, the cache data value setting expires all data for the application after the indicated number of days regardless of when the data is loaded.
  • Server-based sorting — In V8.4, Content Manager OnDemand allows you to sort the document hit lists on the server before the document hit lists are returned to the Content Manager OnDemand client. You can specify server-based sorting in the Folder permissions options window in the administrative client.
  • Enhancements to system log utility
  • Ability to define DB2 database information at the application group level — DB2 Content Manager OnDemand V8.4 enables you to define a database name at the application group level when you query against an OnDemand for z/OS library server. This database name is used during tablespace creation and deletion, and you can modify it at any time.
  • Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) compliant — Content Manager OnDemand V8.4 is IPv6 compliant. IPv6 is the next version of the network protocols that are used across the Internet. IPv6 provides greater network deployment flexibility, a much expanded address space, authentication, and privacy. Many countries are moving quickly to deploy IPv6. The U.S. Federal Government has mandated the procurement of IPv6-enabled products and is working toward a transition to IPv6 between 2008 and 2010.
  • Convert Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) documents to HTML and PDF — With AFP2WEB transform technologies, you can participate more fully in today's on demand business environment. The AFP2WEB solution can help you expand online services while you reduce costs associated with printing and mailing. By transforming the AFP datastream into HTML and PDF for Web browser viewing, you can provide your customers with an easy way to view communications such as invoices and statements. At the same time, you can preserve original document fidelity. Even better, you can enable electronic delivery without making significant changes to your production environment.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • ServerPacs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • SystemPacs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
*
3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization and data input verification.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The following agreement applies for maintenance and does not require customer signatures:

  • IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011)

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

S/390® and System z™ IBM Operational Support Services — SoftwareXcel is an option if you desire added services.

Limited warranty applies: Yes

Limited warranty: IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. Consult the IBM Software Support Guide for further information at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program support: Enhanced support, called Subscription and Support, includes telephone assistance, as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. You will be notified of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Authorization for use on home/portable computer: You may not copy and use this program on another computer without paying additional license fees.

Sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions

To be eligible for sub-capacity pricing, the machine on which the eligible products are installed and running must be eligible for sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions. Software pricing, at less than full-machine capacity for eligible products, apply when running:

  • AIX 5L™ V5.1, or later, on an IBM System p 690 or equivalent partition-capable operating system and machine
  • OS/400® V5R1, or later, running on an IBM System i
  • Linux™ running in an LPAR under AIX 5L V5.1, OS/400 V5R1, or in a partition on an equivalent partition-capable operating system and server

Sub-capacity pricing for eligible products is based on the current program pricing methodology, but the number of processors will be determined based on the sum of processors for all partitions where the program is defined (used). To obtain pricing at less than full machine capacity for eligible products, you are required to:

  • Install and use, when available, IBM's license use management program, which installs with eligible IBM programs.
  • Install available updates to the operating system and eligible products such that license use can be accurately managed.
  • Determine if the use of sub-capacity pricing terms results in a reduced requirement for entitlements; you can reallocate the entitlement difference by distributing entitlements across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up entitlements. Subscription, Software Maintenance and support volumes, and entitlements for existing contracts will continue at the same levels as the acquired licenses.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of an eligible operating system and machine (for example, z/OS running in z/Architecture™ (64 bit) mode on a System z (or equivalent) server).
