Description
Bottom rule

The IBM System Storage 7216 Multi-Media Enclosure has two bays designed to accommodate up to two tape drives, two RDX Removable HDD Docking Stations, or four DVD-RAM drives. The initial order for the 7216 Multi-Media Enclosure must include at least one of the following drive features.

RDX Removable Disk Drive Docking Station (feature number 1103)

The RDX Removable Disk Drive Docking Station accommodates a 160 GB or 500 GB removable disk drive or data cartridge. The disks are in a protective rugged enclosure that plug into the docking station. The docking station holds one removable rugged disk drive or data cartridge at a time. The rugged removable disk cartridge and docking station backs up information similar to tape drives. The RDX docking station interface is USB level 2.0. Any industry standard RDX removable disk drive may be installed in the RDX Docking Station. A docking station with an RDX removable disk drive or data cartridge can be an excellent alternative to DAT320 and LTO5 tape drives and cartridges. One of the two RDX Removable Disk Drive cartridges (feature numbers 1106 and 1107) must be specified with each Docking Station feature order.

DAT320 SAS Tape Drive (feature number 1402)

The DAT320 SAS feature provides a migration and interchange path on IBM POWER Systems from other 4 mm formatted tape drives, and is designed to provide a solution for save, restore, and archiving functions. This tape drive provides physical storage capacity of up to 160 GB (320 GB with 2:1 compression) per data cartridge and is designed to achieve a data rate of up to 24 MB/sec with compression. It delivers read-write compatibility with DAT320 and DAT160 media formats.

Note: DAT160 cartridges may cause excessive head wear if used for more than occasional use.

The DAT320 SAS tape drive feature includes a test cartridge, a half-high drive latch, a SAS interface assembly, and an external SAS cable. The DAT320 tape drive supports the strongest version of the industry-standard AES encryption algorithm (IEEE P1619.1-2007 compliant GCM-128-AES 256 bit). Encryption is user application dependent and is performed after data compression. It is available with DAT320 media only.

DVD Sled w/1 DVD-RAM Drive (feature number 1420)

This Drive Sled feature allows the installation of two slim-height DVD optical drives in a single bay of the 7216 Storage Enclosure. One DVD-RAM optical drive and one DVD-RAM test disk are included in this feature. A second DVD-RAM drive (feature number 1422) drive may be added to the drive slot in the DVD sled by removing the DVD blank panel.

DVD-RAM Slim Optical Drive (feature number 1422)

The flexibility and compatibility offered in the 7216 SAS DVD-RAM feature makes it an excellent solution for your DVD-RAM read and write requirements. One DVD-RAM test disk is also included. The DVD-RAM Slim Optical Drive can read and write on 4.7 GB and 9.4 GB DVD-RAM media. The DVD-RAM uses only bare media to help reduce media costs and is also read compatible with multisession CD, CD-RW, CD recordable, and 2.6 GB and 5.2 GB DVD-RAM media.

Other DVD-RAM drive characteristics are:

  • Maximum data rate of up to 2.77 MB per second (DVD-RAM, read)
  • 165 ms average test random access (DVD), 125 ms average access (CD-ROM and CD-RW)
  • Loading tray supports 12 cm and 8 cm disks (8 cm, horizontal only)
  • Asynchronous and synchronous data transfer support
  • Multimedia compliance (MPC-3)
  • CD-DA Digital Audio standard Red Book audio
  • DVD-ROM and CD-ROM media readability in Modes 1 or 2, XA, CDDA, and audio formats
  • Multisession disc, CD-recordable disc, and CD-RW disc readable

Note: Disk physical capacity options are 2.6 GB and 4.7 GB per side. The 5.2 GB and 9.4 GB physical capacities may be achieved by using double-sided DVD-RAM disks.

Key application areas include access to any information widely distributed via DVD-RAMs, CD-RW, and CD-ROMs, such as licensed software, software updates, user and technical manuals, and documentation. Many other multimedia applications are also well suited for capture and distribution on DVD and CD disks.

DAT320 USB Tape Drive (feature number 5673)

The DAT320 USB feature provides a migration and interchange path on IBM POWER Systems from other 4 mm formatted tape drives, and is designed to provide a solution for save, restore, and archiving functions. This tape drive provides physical storage capacity of up to 160 GB (320 GB with 2:1 compression) per data cartridge and is designed to achieve a data rate of up to 24 MB/sec with compression.

It provides read-write compatibility with DAT320 and DAT160 media formats.

Note: DAT160 cartridges may cause excessive head wear if used for more than occasional use.

The DAT320 USB tape drive feature includes a test cartridge, a half-high drive latch, a USB interface assembly, and an external USB cable.

The DAT320 tape drive supports the strongest version of the industry-standard AES encryption algorithm (IEEE P1619.1-2007 compliant GCM-128-AES 256 bit). Encryption is user application dependent and is performed after data compression. It is available with DAT320 media only.

Half-high LTO Ultrium 5 SAS Tape Drive (feature number 8247)

The Half-High LTO Ultrium 5 feature is a high-performance tape drive with a native capacity of up to 1.5 TB (3.0 TB with 2:1 compression). This fifth generation of LTO Ultrium tape drives provides a migration and an interchange path on IBM POWER Systems from other LTO-formatted tape drives, and is designed to provide a solution for save, restore, and archiving functions. The LTO Ultrium 5 drive offers a data rate of up to 280 MB/sec with compression.

It also provides read-write compatibility with Ultrium 5 and Ultrium 4 media formats, and read-only compatibility with Ultrium 3 media formats.

The Half-High LTO Ultrium 5 SAS tape drive feature includes a test cartridge, a half-high drive latch, a SAS interface assembly, and an external SAS cable.

The HHLTO5 tape drive feature on IBM System Storage 7216 Multi-Media Enclosure supports data encryption on the base drive with media meeting LTO consortium specifications and Application Managed Encryption (IEEE P1619.1-2007 compliant AES-GCM 256 bit encryption algorithm). Data encryption is performed after data compression and has a minimal affect on data rate and capacity.

Note: Performance on the tape drive features 1402, 5673, and 8247 offered in the 7216 Multi-Media Enclosure may be limited by other components of the system. Data compression technology is designed to double the amount of data that can be stored on the media, although the actual degree of compression achieved is sensitive to the characteristics of the data that is being compressed.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.

Warranty service

If required, IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone, or electronically via an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. If applicable to your product, parts considered Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) will be provided as part of the machine's standard warranty service.

Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of warranty service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information. This product is covered by the following type(s) of service.

Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) service

IBM provides replacement CRUs to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request.

Tier 1 CRU: Installation of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.

Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next-business-day delivery. IBM specifies, in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU, whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM. When return is required, (1) return instructions and a container are shipped with the replacement CRU and (2) you may be charged for the replacement CRU if IBM does not receive the defective CRU within 15 days of your receipt of the replacement.

The following parts have been designated as 7216 Tier 1 CRU parts:

  • Sliding Rail Kit
  • Cable Management Kit
  • SAS Interface Cable
  • USB Interface Cable
  • Blank Back Panel
  • HH Drive Bay Blank Panel Tray
  • HH Drive Latch

Refer to the 7216 Service Guide for part number and ordering information for the above CRU parts.

Non-IBM parts support

Warranty service: IBM is now shipping machines with selected non-IBM parts that contain an IBM field replaceable unit (FRU) part number label. These parts are to be serviced during the IBM machine warranty period. IBM is covering the service on these selected non-IBM parts as an accommodation to their customers, and normal warranty service procedures for the IBM machine apply.

Warranty service upgrades

During the warranty period, warranty service upgrades provide an enhanced level of On-site Service for an additional charge. A warranty service upgrade must be purchased during the warranty period and is for a fixed term (duration). It is not refundable or transferable and may not be prorated. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed.

IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone or electronically by access to an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability.

Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) may be provided as part of the machine's standard warranty CRU Service except that you may install a CRU yourself or request IBM installation, at no additional charge, under one of the On-site Service levels specified above. For additional information on the CRU Service, refer to warranty information.

Maintenance Services

If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service for a fee depending on the types of maintenance service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone or electronically, via an IBM Web site. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of maintenance service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information.

Customer Replaceable Unit Service

If your problem can be resolved with a CRU (for example, tape or DVD-RAM drive), and depending upon the maintenance service offerings in your geography, IBM will ship the CRU to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request.

CRUs may be provided as part of the machine's standard maintenance service except that you may install a CRU yourself or request IBM installation, at no additional charge, under any of the On-site Service levels specified above.

Non-IBM parts support

Under certain conditions, IBM repairs selected non-IBM parts at no additional charge for machines that are covered under warranty service upgrades or maintenance services.

IBM Service provides hardware problem determination on non-IBM parts (for example, adapter cards, PCMCIA cards, disk drives, memory) installed within IBM machines covered under warranty service upgrades or maintenance services and provides the labor to replace the failing parts at no additional charge.

If IBM has a Technical Service Agreement with the manufacturer of the failing part, or if the failing part is an accommodations part (a part with an IBM FRU label), IBM may also source and replace the failing part at no additional charge. For all other non-IBM parts, customers are responsible for sourcing the parts. Installation labor is provided at no additional charge, if the machine is covered under a warranty service upgrade or a maintenance service.

This product is provided with one year of standard warranty.
