Technical information

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 will run on any IBM processor, with the conditional swapping and extended precision floating-point features supported by one of the following operating systems:

  • z/VSE® (5609-ZVS) V3.1, or later
  • z/VM® (5741-A05) V5.2, or later

DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 will support all DASD devices supported by the operating systems through VSAM data management facilities (in z/VSE) or by VM DASD Block I/O Facilities (in z/VM). DB2 Server for VM takes advantage of DFSMS/VM® in the VM environment. The DB2 Data Spaces Support option will support all current DASD devices supported by the VM Paging Subsystem.

DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 will support, through z/VSE or z/VM, tape-handling devices supported by those operating systems.

ISQL will support 3270-compatible terminals.

The DB2 Utility supports a terminal interface through ICCF and CMS.

In a VM environment, results from ISQL — the interactive facility for DB2 Server for VM — may be printed on any system printer supported by VM, or any remote printer through RSCS Networking supported by the operating system.

In a VSE environment, ISQL results may be printed on any system-supported printer using VSE/POWER™ supported by the z/VSE operating systems. Any IBM 3270 Information Display System terminal printer supported by the Basic Mapping Support facility of CICS/VSE® or Transaction Server can print the ISQL results.

Software requirements

DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 fully exploits and functions with the optional DB2 features at the V7.3 level (Data Restore and Control Center), RXSQL at the V7.1 level, and QMF™ at the V7.2 level.

In the VM environment, DB2 Server for VM works with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • z/VM V5.2, or later (5741-A05). DB2 Server for VM is licensed for a standard engine environment only and is not supported in a z/VM V4 environment running on Integrated Facility for Linux™ engines.
  • Distributed Relational Database Architecture™-Distributed Unit of Work (DRDA®-DUOW) support requires APPC/VM VTAM® Support (AVS) and Coordinated Resource Recovery (CRR), which are part of z/VM V4.3, or later.

In the z/VSE environment, DB2 Server for VSE and its features work with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • z/VSE (5609-ZVS) V3.1, or later
  • VSE/VSAM, part of VSE Central Functions V7.1, or later, which is one of the base programs shipped with z/VSE 3.1, or later

Optional

z/VSE consists of a number of base programs. DB2 Server for VSE may optionally use the following base programs shipped with z/VSE V3.1, or later:

  • MQSeries® for VSE V2.1.2 is required to support Data Propagator Q Capture for VSE V7.4.
  • MQSeries Client for VM/ESA® is required to support Data Propagator Q Capture for VM V7.4.
  • CICS/VSE (V2.3, or later) or CICS® Transaction Server (V1.1.1, or later) is required to support:
    • Data Propagator Q Capture for VSE
    • Interactive users
    • CICS transactions
    • Remote Unit of Work (RUOW) application server and application requester functions of DRDA over SNA
    • DUOW application server function of DRDA over SNA
  • VSE/POWER (part of VSE Central Functions V7.1, or later) is required for online environments doing report writing via ISQL.
  • VSE Interactive Interface (part of VSE Central Functions V7.1, or later) is required for an interactive program development environment.
  • ACF/VTAM® for z/VSE (V4.2, or later) is required to support:
    • RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over SNA
    • DUOW application server function of DRDA over SNA
  • TCP/IP for VSE, V1.5 Application Pak, or later is required to support RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over TCP/IP.
  • LE for VSE V1.4.4, or later is required to support RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over TCP/IP.
  • LE for VSE V1.4.4, or later is required to support password encryption.

The DB2 Server for VSE and VM licensed program will work with these products, and subsequent releases and modification levels, unless otherwise stated.

Any level of COBOL, PL/I, C, or Assembler current with the operating system can be used.

The level of FORTRAN required is one supported by the VS FORTRAN compiler with the LANGLVL (77) option either specified or used as the default.

Compatibility: DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 is upwardly compatible with DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.4.

DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 is compatible with DB2 V8.1 ODBC/JDBC/OLE DB application clients. If connecting to a pre-V7.3 DB2 Server for VSE and VM database, a pre-V8.1 DB2 database replication is required.

Planning information

Customer responsibilities: DB2 Server for VSE V7.5 uses an access and usage protection method that requires a key to enable the software function.

The password key will always be generated and delivered automatically from IBM accordingly whenever an order is placed for IBM DB2 Server for VSE and VM.

Software key management: In exceptional cases (offline situations), it may be necessary to contact the IBM Registration Center by telephone, fax, mail, or e-mail, as appropriate. Note that the IBM Registration Center cannot handle product and license orders. You may contact them only if you already have a license for your software program.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

Media type for this software product is chosen during the customized offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • ServerPacs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • SystemPacs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
*
3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization, and data input verification.

OTC: Customers who pay a OTC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately.

Variable charges: The applicable graduated OTC, if applicable, or graduated MLC will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of OTC charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of OTC charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of OTC paid.
