Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability

       VSE/Enterprise Systems Architecture (VSE/ESA (TM)) Version 1
Release 3 and CICS/VSE (TM) Version 2 Release 2, announced in
Programming Announcement 292-322, dated June 16, 1992, are available.
VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 has been enhanced by supporting the 3995
Optical Library Dataserver Model 151 and the processors ES/9000 (TM)
Models 330, 340, 520, 711, 311, 411, and 511 native, without the need
to use Processor Resource/System Manager (PR/SM (TM)).  REXX/VSE is
added to the list of optional products and a new release of SQL/DS
(TM) supports 31-bit virtual addressing, multiple databases, and
Distributed Relational Database Architecture (TM) as server.
VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 contains new releases of the base
programs, especially of CICS/VSE and ACF/VTAM (TM).  It also contains
new optional programs and new levels of many existing optional
programs.  31-bit virtual addressing is supported by CICS/VSE, the
languages VS COBOL II and High Level Assembler, and the databases
SQL/DS and DL/I DOS/VS.  There are new versions of GDDM (TM) and
NetView (R).
       As announced on June 16, 1992, VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 is
IBM's entry System/390 (R) operating system for transaction
processing and batch.  It is a member of IBM's ESA/390 (TM) family of
operating systems.  Customers with requirements for small and
intermediate data centers, or requirements for networks of unattended
System/370 (TM) or System/390 systems controlled from a central MVS
host, will find significant value in VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3.
VSE/ESA Version 1 Releases 1 and 2 introduced large real
memory, dynamic partitions, virtual storage constraint relief,
dynamic channel subsystem, and ESCON (TM) support.  Previously
announced enhancements in Release 3 include more ESA exploitation
with 31-bit virtual addressing, ESA Data Spaces, virtual disk in
storage, ESCON Director, and support for extended functions of IBM
3990 Storage Control Model 3, such as Dual Copy and DASD Fast Write.

PRODUCT POSITIONING
VSE/ESA is a member of the ESA/390 family of operating systems.  It
offers full-function transaction processing and batch capabilities.
Alone, or in combination with VM/ESA, it is the primary system for
small and intermediate-sized data centers.  VSE/ESA is also the
ESA/390 offering for centrally managed, remote unattended systems
from an MVS/ESA (TM) host.
Major subsystems such as ACF/VTAM and CICS/VSE are basically
common to VSE/ESA and MVS/ESA.  Combined with enabling products
VS COBOL II, C/370, High Level Assembler (HLASM), Cross System
Product (CSP), DL/I DOS/VS and SQL/DS, this allows the customer to
develop applications that exploit capabilities common to both VSE/ESA
and MVS/ESA environments, facilitating portability and protection of
customer investment.
VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 replaces all versions of VSE/SP
and previous releases of VSE/ESA.  Major enhancements, such as 31-bit
virtual addressing, more I/O devices, and ESA Data Spaces remove
growth constraints currently known, and demonstrate IBM's commitment
to continued VSE/ESA exploitation of ESA/390 technology.
CICS/VSE Version 2 Release 2 is the successor to previous
releases of CICS/VSE and CICS/DOS/VS, and is ordered as part of
VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3.  It provides expanded capacity for CICS
users in the VSE environment, and the potential for improved
performance through the introduction of Data Tables and support of
multiple Local Shared Resource (LSR) pools.  Distributed Program Link
in CICS/VSE Version 2 Release 2 is extended to support both client
and server functions with other CICS family members.

early publications, access MACRO libraries, or remotely test their
applications with this latest version of VSE/ESA before it is
generally available.  All software vendors are eligible to enroll in
this program.
Software vendors can request to be placed on the VSE mailing
list, or obtain assistance by calling direct 800-553-1623 or
817-961-8571 and selecting ETP technical support option.  Software
vendors may also inquire the ETP by writing to:

New users of VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 should specify:
         TYPE           MODEL
         5750           ACD
BASIC LICENSE:  To order a basic license for an individual component
program, specify the program number and feature number 9001 for asset
registration and the appropriate registration feature number.  For a
graduated one-time charge or graduated monthly license charge specify
one of the following feature numbers as applicable and corresponding
to the group that contains the designated machine.
DSLO LICENSE:  To order a DSLO license for an individual component
program, specify the program number, feature number 9901 for asset
registration, the applicable registration feature, and the feature

number for a graduated one-time charge or graduated monthly license
charge that corresponds to the group containing the designated
machine.

SOFTCOPY DOCUMENTATION:  VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 has three
SOFTCOPY (online book) features.  Two of the softcopy features for
VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3 are on magnetic tape.  One is on CD-ROM
(Compact Disc-READ Only Memory).
All of the softcopy features for VSE/ESA are "no charge"
features.  When ordered with VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 3, the CD-ROM
is treated like an entitled manual.  That is, the first copy is
available at no additional charge.  Customer orders for additional
copies carry a charge.
The flyer, SOFTCOPY BOOKS FOR VSE/ESA (GC33-6526) describes
VSE/ESA's softcopy features in more detail.
DISPLAYABLE SOFTCOPY PUBLICATIONS ON TAPE
This feature has a small subset of 15 on-line books
(application and system command reference manuals), and customers who
wish to familiarize themselves with softcopy may want to start here.
These displayable manuals can be used with the BookManager READ
licensed programs in any of the supported environments.  Terms and
conditions for use of the machine-readable files are shipped with the
files.

This feature has source files (BookMaster (R) tags and text)
for approximately 40 manuals.  These files can be used with the
BookMaster and DCF licensed programs to create printed copies of the
manuals.  The source files can also be used with the BookManager
Build licensed program to create displayable softcopy manuals.  Terms

       DISPLAYABLE SOFTCOPY PUBLICATIONS ON CD-ROM
The CD-ROM feature offers the widest range of online books for
VSE/ESA.  It contains more than 100 manuals.  Besides manuals for
VSE/ESA base products, the CD-ROM also has a large number of books
for VSE/ESA optional products, including CSP/AD, CSP/AE, PSF/VSE, and
SQL/DS.  In addition, special versions of READ/DOS (for PC DOS) and
READ/2 (for OS/2 (R)) are on the disk.  Thus BookManager READ does
not need to be acquired separately.  The first CD-ROM is available at
no additional charge when ordered using feature number 7099 with
product 5750-ACD.
       Additional copies carry a charge.
