* Fulfills the final part of the VSE Statement of Direction in
IBM Product Announcement 189-181, dated November 14, 1989.
Removal of constraints results in potential for significant
increases in capacity and throughput, complementing the
price/performance of System/390 technology.
Larger Real Memory: Supports up to 384MB of real memory. This
is 24 times the limit of 16MB in VSE/SP. Larger real memory can
reduce paging and complements the additional private space and
increased number of partitions in VSE/ESA Version 1.
Virtual Storage Constraint Relief: ACF/VTAM is moved from
shared storage and placed in a private address space. This reduces
shared storage requirements and results in increased storage
available to user applications. On ESA processors, VSE/POWER can
also be moved from shared storage, and access registers are used by
VTAM (TM) and POWER for best performance.
Users may see available user storage increase by as much as
2-4MB per address space. For example, in a typical CICS application
limited by available user storage, an extra 3MB may allow a 30%
increase in the number of active users.
Dynamic Partitions: A new type of partition has been added.
They are called dynamic because they exist only as long as they are
needed. Dynamic partitions are grouped by class and jobs are
scheduled by class. The theoretical maximum is in the range of
150-200. Actual number of concurrently active partitions is
dependent upon the processor, system configuration, and customer
environment and job profile.
The number of static partitions remains at 12.
Dynamic partitions can yield significant added throughput for
batch processing. They can help increase CICS (TM) capacity and
availability. With the increased number of partitions, it is now
reasonable to use additional CICS partitions for added capacity or as
alternative CICS partitions for higher availability using facilities
of XRF.
More Address Spaces: In prior versions of VSE, the maximum
number of address spaces is nine. Each of the new dynamic partitions
occupies an address space of its own. The number of address spaces
is thus (9 + (1 x dynamic partitions)).
The maximum virtual size of any one address space remains
16MB.
More Total Virtual Memory: The maximum total virtual memory
(VSIZE) is 256MB. This is two times the old VSIZE of 128MB. The
maximum virtual I/O area (VIO) is 128MB. This is more than three
times the old VIO of 40MB.
Dynamic Channel Subsystem: VSE/ESA Version 1 supports Dynamic
Path Selection and Dynamic Path Reconnect for more efficient I/O. Up
to 256 channels are supported, or 16 times the previous limit. Up to
eight paths are supported to a single device. The result is
significantly more I/O capacity.
VSE/ESA and PR/SM (TM): When combined with PR/SM on
System/390, VSE/ESA Version 1 offers new growth enhancing
capabilities for the VSE customer. Potential uses include:
o Customers with several VSE guests under VM/ESA may use VM/ESA's
Multiple Preferred Guest support, to achieve better performance
of the VSE guests.
o Some VSE/VM customers may choose to run VSE/ESA Version 1
production in a logical partition (LPAR) and run their VM with
CMS and/or VSE test in a separate LPAR to simplify their
environment. Customers considering such a configuration may need
additional I/O devices and I/O attachment hardware.
o VSE customers without VM today may use separate LPARs for
production and test or to ease migration from VSE/SP to VSE/ESA
Version 1.
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
VSE/ESA Version 1 enhances application opportunities in two major
areas, enhanced availability and remote unattended systems.
Enhanced Availability: Includes considerations of planned as
well as unplanned downtime. The XRF capability of CICS/VSE Version 2
Release 1 addresses these emerging requirements in an economical,
evolutionary way while protecting existing investments in programs
and skills.
In a single Central Electronic Complex (CEC) configuration, a
partially initialized alternate CICS partition can take over from the
active CICS in a preplanned, automated way. Restart time is reduced
and disruption to end users minimized.
XRF can also help reduce planned downtime. For example,
control can be transferred to the alternate CICS when there is
service or maintenance to be applied to the active CICS. In this
way, service to end-users can continue.
These same advantages, and more, apply to a single CEC where
the active and alternate CICS are in separate LPARs under PR/SM. In
a dual CEC configuration there is the added advantage of processor
redundancy.
Centrally Managed Remote Unattended Systems: VSE/ESA Version 1
continues to enhance the remote unattended environment. Output of a
standalone DUMP can now be directed to DASD or tape. This
complements extensive unattended functions introduced in VSE/SP
Version 4. Among VSE optional products for this environment, DSNX
Version 2 Release 1 now includes capability for distributing
microcode to an IBM 9371. VSE/OCCF Version 1 Release 4 supports
dynamic partitions.
A complementary product (not part of VSE/ESA), MVS Central
Node Administration Tool (MVS/CNAT, 5685-136), offers enhanced
capabilities for management of remote unattended VSE nodes by an MVS
host. Refer to IBM Programming Announcement 289-328, dated
June 20, 1989 or the MVS/CNAT General Information Manual (GC33-6440)
for details.
INVESTMENT PROTECTION
For VSE/ESA customers, MVS affinity means access to richer, more
productive SAA products (VS COBOL II or CSP). VSE/ESA Version 1
supports the full range of uniprocessors from Micro Channel 370 to
ES/9000 Model 340. Dual and multiprocessors are supported under
PR/SM or VM. Customers have the granularity to handle a wide variety
of requirements.
For customers affiliated with an MVS enterprise, MVS affinity
can result in savings through sharing of skills and programs.
For customers contemplating a move to MVS/ESA, MVS affinity
means they can develop SAA applications under VSE/ESA with confidence
that important new investments can be migrated when the time is
right.
IBM Business Partners who develop and market applications for
the MVS CICS platform can leverage existing and future investments.
VSE affinity to MVS can allow them to address a substantial worldwide
VSE opportunity in small and intermediate data centers (and remote
unattended systems in large MVS enterprises).
CICS/VSE Version 2 Release 1: Replaces CICS/DOS/VS. This
enhanced level of CICS brings the Extended Recovery Facility (XRF) to
the VSE customer. It includes better multiregion operation (MRO)
performance, and improved serviceability. Included are transaction
routing for LU6.2, dynamic transaction routing, and connectivity to
CICS OS/2 (R) for cooperative processing. Support of SAA VS COBOL II
is added.
For more details, refer to IBM Programming Announcement
290-521, dated September 5, 1990.
ACF/VTAM Version 3 for VSE/ESA: Moving most of VTAM to a
private address space is a key element in VSCR. VTAM itself now has
up to 12MB available, yielding additional network capacity and
availability. Functions for increased availability, enhanced
connectivity, improved performance, and decreased network definition
which are now part of ACF/VTAM Version 3 Release 3 for MVS and VM are
included.
For more details, refer to IBM Programming Announcement
290-555, dated September 5, 1990.
Key new and upgraded optional products:
o VS COBOL II is IBM's SAA COBOL language. It has been updated to
bring ANSI 85 standards to VSE. Applications can be portable.
Customer productivity and program reliability and maintainability
can be improved through structured programming techniques.
Double Byte Character Support (DBCS) includes translation of
compiler diagnostics, run time messages, and report headings into
Japanese. For more details, refer to IBM Programming
Announcement 290-533, dated September 5, 1990.
o Cross Systems Product Version 3 Release 3 is IBM's SAA
application generator. The programmable workstation (PWS)
feature exploits OS/2 graphics and power for greater programmer
productivity.
o SQL/DS Version 3 Release 1 is IBM's SAA Relational DBMS for VSE.
It provides added usability and performance improvements along
with a new procedure exit for NLS sort use. With VSE/ESA
Version 1 large real memory and VSCR, additional SQL/DS capacity
and throughput can be achieved.
SQL/DS Version 3 Release 1 provides VS COBOL II
preprocessor support via a Small Programming Enhancement (SPE).
This SPE is integrated with SQL/DS when it is delivered as an
Optional Licensed Program Product with the VSE/ESA Version 1
package.
o VSE/OCCF Version 1 Release 4
o VSE/DSNX Version 2 Release 1
o DW/370 Version 2 Release 1
o GDDM (TM)/VSE Version 2 Release 3
o DL/I DOS/VS Version 1 Release 9.
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
VSE/ESA Version 1 offers increased productivity for systems
programmers and operations staff.
Constraint Relief: The same items which contribute to capacity
improvements in VSE/ESA Version 1 can result in savings or improved
productivity of systems programmer and operations staff. Reduced
requirements for tuning and balancing the system may mean more time
and skills available to work on applications which improve business
competitiveness. For example, the systems staff need no longer be
concerned about potential growth of ACF/VTAM and POWER in the common
area and a resulting reduction in user storage. In another example,
added partitions may mean a reduction in extra shift hours for some
customers.
CICS/VSE Version 2 Release 1 XRF: With XRF an automated,
preplanned takeover can be achieved which lessens dependency on
operations staff during critical periods of unplanned downtime. In
addition, XRF allows planned service or maintenance of CICS by the
systems staff while continuing to service end-users.
Documentation Improvements: Much of the documentation for
VSE/ESA Version 1 has been restructured to better reflect the
integrated nature of components. The result is easier retrieval of
information due to a more logical organization.
New softcopy options are available. Some documents for
VSE/ESA Version 1 will be available in source form (text plus IBM
BookMaster (R) tags). This gives users of VSE/ESA and VM/ESA the
ability to use IBM BookManager (TM) under VM. A smaller group of
VSE/ESA Version 1 documents will be available in readable form.
Using BookManager under DOS or OS/2, the user can down load one or
more of these readable manuals to a PWS with sufficient hard disk
capacity.
VSE/POWER: In response to user requests, a transmitter exit
has been added. Using this exit users may insert or delete records
before a file is sent. For example, users are able to insert
standard separator pages into a series of files being transmitted to
a remote location.
VSE/VSAM: Contains responses to three GUIDE requirements. It
is now possible to write to a cluster from CMS and read immediately
from VSE using a read only catalog. A REWIND option has been added
which keeps the tape unit ready after a backup or restore job.
VSE/FAST COPY: Using multiple track read for ECKD DASD,
performance has been improved. It will accept control statements
from SYSLOG. Messages requesting permission can be suppressed.
Interactive Interface (II): Configuration dialogs have been
streamlined. The result is fewer panels with reduced redundancy and
duplication. A new concept of generic specifications reduces the
impact of hardware changes and can improve maintainability and
productivity.
Standalone DUMP to Disk: The standalone DUMP program can
reside on either disk or tape with the output of the standalone DUMP
directed to that same disk or tape. Dialogs for problem handling
have been extended to better support the analysis of standalone dumps
on either tape or disk.
National Language Support: VSE/ESA Version 1 will provide
panels, messages, and helps in the following languages: US English,
German, Japanese, and Spanish.
DBCS console devices are supported. In addition to translated
messages supplied with Japanese, other subsystems or user
applications can now communicate with the operator in a DBCS
language.
END-USER PRODUCTIVITY
VSE/ESA Version 1 takes advantage of the technology of System/390 for
improved response time and addition of new users and/or applications.
Enhanced availability options can help improve end-user productivity
and customer service. Until now, VSE/VM customers may have spread
production work among VSE virtual systems in ways which may have been
inconvenient to end-users, but which were necessary to overcome VSE
constraints. Some of these systems may now be recombined where
appropriate with the end-user's needs taking priority over
requirements of the system.

STATEMENT OF GENERAL DIRECTION
VSE/ESA direction
It is IBM's intention to:
o Increase VSE/ESA affinity to MVS/ESA and SAA in the context of a
family of ESA/390 operating systems.
o Selectively exploit the ESA/390 capabilities of ES/9000 systems
such as 31-bit virtual addressing, data spaces, and ESCON (TM)
channels.
o Introduce an SAA C language to the VSE/ESA environment.
o Introduce a new PSF as an optional product of VSE/ESA.
VSE/ESA Relationship to SAA
VSE is IBM's strategic ESA operating system for mid-range
online transaction processing and commercial batch environments. The
significant improvements being announced today (VSE/ESA Version 1
Release 1), demonstrate IBM's commitment to VSE as a key investment
area. In addition, IBM will use the strong affinity that exists
between VSE and SAA to make many SAA capabilities available to VSE
customers:
1. SAA applications can be written and run under VSE CICS and can
also be ported to MVS CICS. IBM will maintain this VSE CICS
consistency with the MVS CICS transaction processing environment.
2. To keep the VSE CICS environment consistency with MVS CICS, VSE
will support the following SAA components directly:
o SAA Languages: Cross System Product is already available. VS
COBOL II for VSE is being announced today. IBM will provide
an SAA C compiler for VSE.
o SAA Relational Data Base: SQL/DS is already available. In
the future, SQL/DS will exploit new VSE/ESA capabilities to
provide additional performance improvement and functions.
o SAA Connectivity: Most SNA protocols and services and all
protocols and services important to transaction processing
are already available in VSE. IBM has already stated it will
provide CPI-C support through CICS in VSE.
3. A VSE host can communicate with workstations running IBM EASEL
for OS/2 EE as easily as any SAA host and thereby add the
advantages of a CUA graphical user interface to existing 3270
applications. In addition, the relationship of VSE CICS to CICS
OS/2 allows two alternative ways to use CUA: the OS/2
Presentation Manager (TM) for Graphical CUA, and the OS/2 Dialog
Manager for Entry or Text CUA.
4. VSE will participate in the SAA concept of the integrated
enterprise. This means that VSE will play a role in the SAA
solutions for network management, distributed files, AD/Cycle
(TM) (as a target environment), etc, in addition to the items
listed above.
5. A VSE user requiring SAA elements or applications that are not
supported directly by VSE, such as other languages, repository
services, etc., can access them either through MVS or through VM.
VM systems are readily available for those VSE systems running as
guest machines, as are MVS systems where VSE is participating in
a distributed network.

only in the VM mode of VSE are now available for all VSE/ESA modes.
In both MODE=VM and VMESA, the VSE guest is limited to 16MB virtual.
Preferred Machine Assist (PMA) was designed to provide
performance improvements when running under VM by dedicating real
resources to a VSE virtual machine. With System/390 and PR/SM,
multiple preferred machines may be used with VM/ESA (with ESA
feature) and VSE/ESA (370 or ESA mode) for performance benefits
similar to those provided by PMA.
LIMITATIONS: Dynamic partitions have some limitations which do not
apply to static partitions (no VTAM, BTAM or DOS/VS COBOL compiles,
for example). However, most CICS/VSE and batch work is fully
supported. For more details, contact your IBM marketing
representative.
The IBM VSE Performance Tool (VSE/PT, 5796-PLQ), will not be
supported on VSE/ESA Version 1. However, there are vendor products
which can be used. For more details, contact your IBM marketing
representative.
IBM Distributed Systems Executive (DSX) Version 3 Release 2
(5668-915) contains some functions which use IBM Interactive System
Productivity Facility (ISPF) Version 1 Release 1 (5668-960). ISPF is
not supported on VSE/ESA. Therefore, customers should be aware that
they may need to use equivalent batch interfaces for some functions.
Certain other functions of DSX may not be available. Customers
should carefully review DSX documentation and their anticipated use
of the product.
PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Two elements of performance are resource
usage and capacity.
Resource usage refers to the number of instructions executed
and number of I/O operations as examples. All other things being
equal, VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 1 resource usage is similar to
VSE/SP Version 4.
Capacity improvement (growth potential) is the major
performance news in VSE/ESA Version 1 especially ESA mode.
Improvement is made possible by the following enhancements: larger
real memory, virtual storage constraint relief, new dynamic
partitions, more address spaces, more total virtual memory, and
dynamic channel subsystem.
For Transaction Processing: In ESA mode, the virtual storage
constraint relief may be as much as 2MB or more. For a single CICS
partition this means the potential for a corresponding capacity
increase, or approximately 30% more active users (without needing to
use CICS transaction routing). The dynamic partitions and more real
storage allow for more CICS partitions and the potential for even
greater capacity gains.
For Batch Processing: The large number of dynamic partitions
can mean significantly more capacity for batch jobs as well,
depending on characteristics of the batch workload. For example, the
degree to which jobs are independent and can be run in parallel or
are serial in nature, can influence potential throughput gains.
VSE/ESA Version 1 also has performance improvements in the
support of ECKD devices, especially for VSE/FAST COPY using multiple
track reads.
Capacity improvements for any specific customer will depend
upon workload characteristics, machine configuration, and operational
effectiveness. Capacity increases can be realized only if enough
processing power, real memory, and I/O capacity are provided.
Further virtual storage constraint relief and capacity
potential can be expected in the future when 31-bit addressing is
used to support CICS/VSE programs beyond 16MB for ESA/390.
Additional performance information will be available prior to
availability.

PLANNING INFORMATION
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The customer is responsible for the
evaluation of the adequacy of the offering to address individual
customer requirements, and for the selection, implementation, and
adequacy of security procedures for their applications (refer to the
Security, Audibility and Control section). The VSE/ESA Installation
(SC33-6504), and VSE/ESA Planning (SC33-6503) manuals will serve as
an aid for this task.
INSTALLABILITY:
o Most of the functions in VSE/ESA Version 1 remove existing
limitations and are transparent to the user.
o Usability of machine configuration dialogs has been improved over
VSE/SP Version 4.
o The predefined environments offer a system layout with static and
dynamic partitions. Full utilization of dynamic partitions will
require a small amount of JCL changes and operator training to
introduce job classes.
o VSE/ESA Version 1 customers running ESA mode on System/390 or any
ESA or 370XA processor must do an Input/Output Configuration Data
Set (IOCDS) generation for the dynamic channel subsystem.
ENHANCED SERVICE SUPPORT OFFERING: The IBM SoftwareXcel family of
offerings is available to reduce the time to reach the VSE/ESA
platform by performing many of the activities usually performed by
the customer's technical staff while improving the on-going system
software service environment. Services ranging from enhanced
electronic support to customized product and service installation and
system migration services are available.
PACKAGING: The VSE/ESA Version 1 is distributed via tape or
cartridge media. The number of tapes or cartridges depend on the
number of optional products ordered.
VENDOR TESTING: To enable software vendors to port their
applications to VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 1, IBM is inviting vendors
to participate in an Early Test Program (ETP). This program, offered
prior to availability of VSE/ESA Version 1 Release 1, will provide a
suitable system environment for verification test and access to new
functions. The program is made available through the IBM Software
Vendor System Support Center in Dallas, Texas, call 1-800-627-8363 or
1-817-962-8102 for more information.

SOFTCOPY: Two separate softcopy (manuals that can be read and used
online) features are available with VSE/ESA Version 1. Both can be
used with BookManager, a family of IBM program products which offers
extensive softcopy support.
o One softcopy feature consists of a pre-built sublibrary of
readable books. As shown below, this sublibrary contains system
and application command reference manuals for VSE/ESA, CICS/VSE,
and DITTO.
For this feature, users must have at least BookManager READ
support. This is available, for example, with BookManager READ/DOS
Version 1 (5601-453), and BookManager READ/2 (5601-454).
MANUALS WITH SYSTEM COMMANDS:
o VSE/ESA Version 1 System Control Statements
o VSE/POWER Administration and Operation Guide
o VSE/DITTO User's Guide and Reference
o VSE/ICCF User's Guide
o CICS/VSE Resource Definition (Online)
o CICS/VSE Resource Definition (Macro)
o CICS/VSE System Programming Reference
o CICS/VSE Supplied Transactions
o CICS/VSE Customization Guide
o CICS/VSE Definition and Operation Guide.
MANUALS WITH APPLICATION COMMANDS:
o VSE/ESA Version 1 System Macro Reference
o VSE/VSAM Commands and Macros
o CICS/VSE Application Programmer's Reference
o The second feature is available for users who have BookManager
for VM Version 1.2 installed. This feature consists of source
code (text plus BookMaster tags) for approximately 40 manuals for
VSE/ESA, CICS/VSE, and DITTO. Source for all of the manuals from
the pre-built sublibrary is included.
The availability of source for these manuals gives users
the possibility to use IBM ProcessMaster (TM) and BookMaster to
print manuals or parts of manuals.
Notes
1. Both of these softcopy features are no charge options. They may
be ordered individually or in combination. Hardcopy manuals
continue to be available, as in the past.
BookManager (whether the VM, PC DOS or OS/2 platform) must
be ordered separately from VSE/ESA.
2. The feature with the pre-built sublibrary is on a tape in
POFFLOAD format. The tape for the source feature is in VMFPLC2
format. The first file on each tape has information to help
download the tape's contents.
3. Softcopy terms and conditions for VSE/ESA are defined in the
Licensed Program Specifications (GC33-6500).

ONE-TIME CHARGE: Customers who pay a one-time charge for a licensed
program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no
additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an
optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement
program is announced and the customer elects to license the
replacement program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.
VARIABLE CHARGES: The applicable graduated one-time license charge
or graduated monthly license charge will be based on the group of the
designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use.
For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a
higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the
current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time
charge licenses to a machine in a lower group there will be no
adjustment or refund of one-time license charges paid.
For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses,
the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group
will apply.
ENTRY SUPPORT LICENSE/LICENSE TO USE ONE-TIME CHARGE: One-time
charge authorized for use only on IBM Entry End User/370 Machines.
